So hi, Ryan, how are you doing? I am also excited to just dive into our discussion today because we're actually going to be talking about witchcraft and deliverance. Honestly, listeners, Ryan is a great person to talk about this topic because he's written several books about spiritual warfare. He's also written a lot about the spirit of witchcraft, isn't that right?

·         Prophecy: ‘My People are Facing Demonic Chatter in This Hour’

·         Prophecy: ‘I Am Unmasking Hidden Destiny of Cities, Regions’

·         Prophetic Dream: ‘I Am Releasing Audacious Exploits in My People’s Hearts’

·         Prophecy: This is a Year of Apostolic Authority and Liberty

Ryan LeStrange: It's one of the things that I have written about and one of the things I've experienced. People often ask, how did you get into that? I don't think anybody ever starts out saying, well, I want to become an expert in these things. I think that depending on your ministry, what God's called you to do, you often just encounter these things, and that's what happened with me. I was always drawn into the prophetic and in that vein. I just began to encounter warfare, so I had to dig it out and pray it through to figure out how do I combat this. That led me to write the things I've written.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: That is powerful, and that's really cool that the Lord took something that was so hard. Going through spiritual warfare can be really hard, but then you used that in your life to give you wisdom to impart to other people. So that's really encouraging. I want to ask you about something you've taught on before and that's the spirit of witchcraft. So, just real quick, can you define for me and for our listeners, what is the spirit of witchcraft?

Ryan LeStrange: Sure. The simple definition, I would say, is obtaining power through false means. What I mean by that is in the realm of the spirit and the manifest in the natural realm, there's power. We know the power of God, we know the power to bless, the power to heal. We know the power to redeem, the power to restore, the power to save; all those sorts of manifestations of God's power. But there is a supernatural realm that then comes into the natural realm and accesses power through false means. There are lying signs and wonders, which is a manifestation of witchcraft control, it is a manifestation of witchcraft fear, many different manifestations, and we'll talk about some of them. But that would be the most simplistic way that I would define it and the most broad-based way I would say.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: So, can you tell me about a time when that spirit of witchcraft attacked you?

Ryan LeStrange: One of the times I was traveling. I went to a foreign nation and took a ministry team and we had immediate opposition. When I'm saying opposition, I mean on every front. That's usually when you're under a spiritual attack of some kind. You're going to get hit on more than one level, and that's how it was. We had people sick, we actually had a person on the team who had come out of witchcraft. They were a fairly new believer. They begin to have all kinds of strange encounters in the room. The meetings that we did, the services were tough. There were several times demons manifested in the services screaming, clawing, kicking, yelling. So, we had all this kind of warfare. But then I was in my room one night late, and ran into the room, closed the door, turned the lights out and was about to go to sleep when all of a sudden, I had this overwhelming sense there was some other presence in the room. I would describe it like the temperature seemed to drop several degrees. I just was aware of this evil presence. So, I began to pray. I saw with my spiritual eyes and to explain it to you, I would say was like an inner vision, meaning that I wasn't really seeing it in the room with my naked, natural eyes, but more through the spiritual sense. But I saw this figure, this being that was dressed in clothing representative of the part of the world we were in, kind of the ancient inhabitants there. This thing began to say to me, if you don't leave here, I'm going to kill you and the whole team. Now, in that moment I felt intimidation from this thing, all of these things rising, but thank God I knew what to do. So, I began the bind it and commanded it to go. After a while, that thing left the room and I told that that Spirit we're not leaving, that God sent us here; all those sorts of things. But I found out later, and this was interesting to me, that the local people in that nation, and I shared that experience with them, they said there was two spirits that appeared frequently to people, and one was the one that I described. So, it was definitely a spirit of witchcraft. I found out later that the maid at the place we were staying was visiting a witch doctor to get spiritual help. So, that sort of let me know how that thing made its way into my room.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: Wow. So, you just kind of rebuked the spirit in your room and then it never really bothered you again on that trip?

Ryan LeStrange: Yeah, I really had to do spiritual warfare. I mean, it wasn't like I just rebuked it and if left instantly. It really kind of tried to persist. It kept releasing sort of threats and intimidation. You find that's pretty common. You look at Elijah with Jezebel, she sent a messenger to him and the messenger released the threat and then he felt the oppression. But I just kept speaking the Word commanding this thing to go and with the thing that said if you don't leave, I'm gonna kill you and the team, I would say, you're not going to kill us. I would quote a scripture and it command it to go and maybe after about an hour it left. I will say this. We continued to experience opposition on that trip. But we basically knew that we were gaining ground. Sometimes in spiritual warfare, that fight is against ground you're gaining personally or corporately.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: Yes, that makes sense. So, for Christians, how can how can a Christian know that what they're dealing with is a spirit of witchcraft as opposed to just maybe someone has a tendency to try to control things? So how do they know that it's actually a spirit of witchcraft that they're dealing with?

Ryan LeStrange: That's a great question, and let me say this. One of the elements of witchcraft and that kind of, again, accessing power through illegitimate means is control. So, when we talk about witchcraft, we can talk about the divination side of it, which would be actually people using incantation spells. In today's society, it can be stuff like horoscopes, palm reading, a lot of things that a lot of people who don't know better might think are innocent. Then there's the other side of it, which is control. When you look at that, people say, well, how is that witchcraft? Look at Satan. I was just writing something about this earlier, and I was studying the passage of Scripture that describes the fall of Lucifer and there's five things … I call it the five I wills … that are covered where Satan keeps saying, I will, I will, I will. This is in Isaiah 14 and, basically, he is adamant to do His will above the will of God. That's one of the components of witchcraft when it comes to this forcefulness, this controlling. It's a rank-breaking spirit. It is a controlling spirit. So, how do you know if you're dealing with it? You're usually going to feel an abnormal sense of heaviness. You look at Elijah. Elijah suddenly goes from conquering the false prophets to being suicidal. So, it's like you're going along fine. All of a sudden, somebody says something, they do something and it's like there's a potency beyond their words. You could say something to me mean, it might upset me hurt my feelings, but I shake it off. But if two days later that thing's lodged in my brain, there's usually a spiritual impetus behind that. Also, the spirit of witchcraft will begin to release thoughts of deception in you. So, you find yourself, after you've had an encounter with something like this through a person, facing deception. You're thinking about things you normally don't. You’re thinking about giving up. You're thinking about going into old sin habits, those sorts of things. Then ultimately, you sense a very high level of domination, if you're dealing with the control side of it, which I think is more what we're focusing on with that question. With the control side of it, there's a domination that ultimately tries to press your will down, to submit to the will of somebody else in an ungodly way. We all have leaders, we all have covenant relationships, where we do have to submit, but this is in a very ungodly way.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: So then, let me ask you, is it possible for the spirit of witchcraft to kind of disguise itself in the church?

Ryan LeStrange: Yeah, typically when you're dealing with the spirit of witchcraft in the church, it is going to be undercover and it's going to happen through two types of people. This is a kind of a hard-hitting way to explain it, but you have people that don't know what they're doing. So, let's say a person gets some prophetic teaching and they’re new. They start going to their church blasting the pastor and telling the intercessors you're not praying strong enough, you're not praying deep enough. They are, in a sense, manifesting a bit of a spirit of witchcraft because they are rank breaking, they are out of order. They're controlling, but they're not doing it intentionally. They don't know better. They've just got enough teaching to kind of be dangerous but not balanced. So, you have people like that sometimes in a family. Maybe you've got a mother that's super controlling, or a mother in-law, and her mother was that way and that's been the example. Or, same thing with a man. But then the second type that you deal with that is very dangerous is people that actually know what they're doing. This gets into like a high level, Jezebel thing or even divination. I’ve dealt with people through the years that were active in divination. They knew they were and they were actually being sent into a church congregation or body to create calamity and confusion. But I've got pastors that are in my network who are very operational in spiritual warfare. They literally have witches and people involved in witchcraft come into their congregation and they'll lift their hands, they will bow and do all those things. But I would say if you're a prophetic by nature and you're mature, you just know something is wrong. You will get a sick feeling that they're bowing down and doing things, but you just know something is wrong. Those type of witches are going to come in and look a lot like everybody else because their assignment is to release things in the atmosphere.
