Steven Bancarz: In a nutshell, Jenny, I was born and raised in a Christian household. I was lost in the New Age movement, and I'm sure we'll get into that a little bit about what that is and what that includes. I fell into New Age spirituality, which is a very popular type of spirituality right now in the West. I was teaching this at a very high level. It was my living it was my career. I had a website that was getting hundreds of thousands of views a day. I was a guest author on the largest New Age website in the world. And this all came to a halt after I had an encounter in the presence of Jesus. It was an encounter in His presence, in the presence of the living God. That is what made me realize everything I was teaching people was wrong. I gave my life to the Lord on the spot, quit my job on the spot. That was about three and a half years ago, and I've been in full time ministry ever since then exposing the dangers and the deceptions of the New Age movement.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: Wow, that's awesome. So, you said you actually grew up in a Christian family?

Steven Bancarz: That's right, not just a Christian family, like a super Christian family. There was nothing in my upbringing that was missing from a Christian perspective that someone could point to and say, well, if your parents would have done this, you wouldn't have fallen into the New Age movement. They did everything. I was actually homeschooled under a Christian curriculum. I was in a Christian private school. I didn't hit public school system till the seventh grade. And even that whole time as well I was in church. We're having home groups at my parents’ house each week. I was in the ninth grade when we stopped having home groups. My childhood was completely saturated with the Christian worldview, with the things of God, they were Pentecostal as well. I saw God move. I saw the spirit move, and what it was, was the overlaid lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, but also the topic of aliens. I couldn't reconcile this topic that I was coming across in my own independent research, the UFO encounters of alien abduction reports and of alien sightings. I was thinking to myself, how is this compatible with the Genesis creation narrative? How is this compatible with Christian fundamentalism? How can there be only one path to God? If there's theoretically millions of planets that are populated with intelligent life just like ours, I couldn't reconcile these questions with the Christian worldview. That really led me down a rabbit trail into the occult where a lot of people who are teaching this idea about aliens and we're teaching on aliens, they are New Age teachers. It's kind of a package deal. When you start researching UFOology, you'll run into things like contact material, which is material that has been allegedly given to us by extraterrestrials. When you read it, they're teaching a completely different type of spirituality. They're teaching New Age spirituality.

What stuck out to me even at that time is that they were always trying to go against the person of Jesus. It's like Dr. Hank Hanegraaff, he has a funny comment about this in one of his works. He says it's interesting that they spent so long and flew millions of light years to get here just to tell us to deny Jesus Christ. It’s like their whole motive is set up against the cross. But, I couldn't really see that at the time because I wasn't fully sold on the cross. I wasn't born again. I was more of a nominal Christian. So, basically, this led me into things like meditation. I was studying things like reincarnation, because these extraterrestrials would be talking about reincarnation. So, I was really becoming saturated with occult worldviews and occult practices and started practicing these things myself. That's when it really culminated to a point where I finally launched my website. When I launched my website, it was meant to be a hub of all the material … quote, unquote, wisdom, spiritual wisdom I had come across and I thought it was helping wake people up to a higher state of consciousness. I thought I was doing God's work by helping people realize you're more than your body. Life is more than just a nine to five grind and trying to make it in the rat race. You have a spiritual purpose here. You're a spiritual being having a human experience and all of these clichés. Meanwhile, I am fundamentally at war with the God of Scripture.

So, my website launched in January of 2014. And because of the size of my website, I was getting hundreds of thousands of views a day, and that was translating into tens of thousands of dollars a month in ad revenue. I'm a 21-year-old, and I'm thinking this is God's blessing upon my life. This is God's favor, I would talk with God, not the God of Scripture. I invented an idol in my mind of who I wanted God to be and I had an intellectual relationship to that idea of God. So, in the New Age movement, they believe that God is equal and equivalent to the universe. So, this is called Pantheism, that the universe is divine and everything in the universe is divine because everything is made up of the substance of God. And therefore, I'm divine by nature. I’m made up of the substance and being of God. The universe is actually made out of God. Therefore, I’m made out of God, therefore God is my innermost identity. The core of who I am is the substance and being of God. And I thought that's who Jesus was, someone who came here and realized, hey, I'm divine, everyone's divine. Then the New Age teachers will cherry pick verses like the kingdom of God is within you, or is it not written in your law, that ye are gods. I didn't know how to respond to these things at the time.

In a book I recently released on the New Age Group and the second coming of the New Age, we have a whole chapter on there explaining and debunking the New Age version of Jesus. I thought Jesus was a mystic and he was teaching us how to become enlightened. I realized God is all as a god. I thought I was on good terms with the Lord. Meanwhile, I was completely fighting for the wrong side of the kingdom. I was completely successful in the New Age movement. It was my brokenness and my sin. My sin started catching up with me and started finding me out. I was totally depraved. I was just wicked.  The Bible talks about how in the days of Noah, the thoughts and intentions of men were evil continuously. In Ephesians it talks about how you were darkness and now you are light I was darkness. I didn't just have darkness living in me, I was completely blind. In Ephesians 2 it talks about how we were following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work and the sons of disobedience. I was spiritually oppressed. I couldn't see it. I was blinded and I was really just psychologically and emotionally overwhelmed with my inability to manage trauma, to manage stress, to manage anxiety, to manage the cravings of the flesh. I was an addict. So, basically it reached a point where I had to start confessing these sins to people in my life and to make a very long story short, it culminated to a point of complete brokenness where I just tapped out, I hit the bottom.

·         Ephesians 2:2: “… in which you formerly walked according to the age of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience …” (MEV).

I just fell on my face at the feet of Jesus, and I was crying out to Him. I didn't know if he would respond to me. I just knew that I wanted all of Him and I was done playing games. I was done trying to fit Him into this box of mysticism. That's when I was just weeping, repenting. It was the first time I really repented and I was like, I want all of You, I'm sorry. I actually felt sorry over my sin. I knew I had sinned against people and against Him, and I was just weeping. That's when he revealed Himself to me. That's when literally I encountered His presence. I didn't see him but His presence entered into the horizon and I was completely crushed. I felt like I was being crushed like a diamond. I couldn't stand up. There was this weightiness to His presence. It was all consuming. It was consuming the air around me, the atmosphere around me, but also it was filling me. And in this moment, I was thinking to myself, Jesus is Lord, He's the son of God. It's so simple. How did I miss this? It's so simple. You know, Paul talks about the simplicity that's in Christ. He's the Son of God. He's exactly who He claimed to be in the New Testament. I was being born again in about a five-minute experience there just weeping at his feet. I got born again.

I went back inside and I was filled with the Spirit and that's when I had all these light bulbs going off in my head about reincarnation about extraterrestrials, about lucid dreaming about this astral projection out-of-body experience that I had. All of these things the Holy Spirit was showing me from my new vantage point of the truth. Using that experience, I didn't even know what the word of God said yet. I hadn't opened up scripture, but I had the Spirit, the Spirit who leads us into all truth. That's the ministry of the Holy Spirit. I knew the New Age world was completely false because Jesus lived in me now. I was like, OK, now I finally got the truth, what do I do with it? The Holy Spirit was giving me all of this insight. That's when I quit my job and apologized to people; hundreds of thousands of people online, telling them Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be, that I just encountered Him and that I can no longer continue writing New Age articles. Obviously, that created quite a stir online. In that video that I made that you mentioned at the beginning the podcast, my testimony video, which by God's grace has over 800,000 views now. That was what I made for people in the New Age movement. I was trying to share my story with them. I didn't know any Christians online; not a single one. I had no Christian support on the internet, just tens, hundreds of thousands of people arguing against me. So, that was a video I made in response to their questions about what happened. I've been in full time ministry now the last three and a half years and it's been it's been incredible. It's been incredible to actually be on the side of truth now.

Jenny Rose Spaudo: Wow, that sounds like an amazing story. So, when you came and told people that you were a Christian now and you made that video, where were people kind about it or were they angry? What was the what was the overall response you got from New Age followers?

Steven Bancarz: Yeah, there was a lot of people who I would say were following quietly to wait to see if I was for real. They were kind of taking notes, almost like they were intrigued. They were they were intrigued and they were interested. They wanted to see, OK, he's been a reliable source of what we considered insight and wisdom in the past. Let’s give him a chance. Let's hear what he has to say. There were some people who just straight up told me to kill myself and rid myself off the face of the earth. People were really upset. There was a lot of mockery, a lot of false claims launched against Christianity. People immediately tried to invalidate and debunk the Christian worldview, debunk Jesus. Jesus didn't exist. Well, Jesus is the copy of pagan gods. Well, Jesus was an Ascended Master. He was a mystic. The Bible was corrupted and so forth. Most of my content on my YouTube channel was in response to their main objections that they were launching against me and in my book for that matter. The entire book is based on really what the primary objections were launched at me from the New Age worldview from New Agers. But it was also really fruitful as well. There were people who actually ended up leaving the New Age movement as well.

There is someone named Doreen Virtue, she is a best-selling New Age author, and probably the best-selling New Age author of all time. She is known for her angel card decks. You can go to any store in America, any cards stripe bookstore and her work is going to be populating the New Age section. The reason for that is because she's still under contract and her books are going to be on the shelves for a certain amount of time, but she repented a few years ago. She had a vision of Jesus Christ in church. She was in church doing research for a card deck she was trying to make for the purpose of mediumship, actually. She had a vision of Jesus in church, and Jesus revealed himself to her and she was like, oh my gosh, Christianity is true. Jesus is real. I gotta leave the New Age. She said that my video my testimony gave her boldness and courage to be able to come forth into the world with her faith. So, it's been very fruitful. It ranged from people telling me to kill myself to other New Age teachers telling me your video really helped lead me out of the New Age movement. So, praise God for that.
