55 Well, I'm glad to be here. I'm glad you're here. So for many of our audience who do not know, I want you guys to know Dr. Winston is a visionary and founder of Joseph Wealth Management. He's the very reason ultimately that we're having this podcast here where we can educate you on financial matters that can help steward your wealth and take you to the next level. Dr. Winston, when I just read your bio, I noticed that you've gone through about four different transitions within your life from an Air Force pilot to an IBM executive, pastor of a major ministry, and then you own 20 plus companies. My goodness. When do you sleep? Well, I don't. No, I do sleep.

39 But what you do is you have to put yourself in a place where the companies basically can be managed without you. If you're not there. and you have a company, you're going to have a lot of problems. Yeah. Because you've got to get the kind of people that can manage a company and do it the way you'd like it done with you not being there. So they have to have the vision, they have to have the right spirit, so forth and so on. Wow. And so because of that, we've been, you know, somewhat successful. Yes, and we have this here today. But can you take us back to your earlier years? For those of us who are watching right now, and they're maybe at that place where they're starting where you were, the Air Force pilot to the IBM executive. Can you talk about vision? Was God with you every step of the way? Did he show you the end from the beginning? No, I really didn't see the end.

34 I was brought up in Tuskegee, Alabama. That's where the famous Tuskegee Airmen were. That is, the black airmen who were, as they said at that time, they didn't have what it takes to fly. But they went over and said... real records in terms of flying for the war. And a lot of those were being trained down at Tuskegee when I was just a kid. So I used to watch them fly and moat and field there. And the same gentleman, Chief Anderson, who trained them, it was still around when I finished college there and was training to go to pilot training. And Chief Anderson was just a man who was born to fly. He would tell me, listen, he said, the airplane can fly itself.

32 He said, watch this. He'd trim it up and take his hands off, and it'll come right down for landing. Then it'll get down so low, and he'd round it out and land it. I said, wow. So this airplane can land better by itself. than it can with you putting your hand on the wheel. Wow. And so I saw that. These kind of things made a real impression to me. Even though I finished college in pre -med, the flying really got in my system. Wow. And there is a scripture that says, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. And it's also out of your heart.

13 Your life comes. You begin to be those things which were in your heart. And so I decided to go ahead and go into pilot training. One thing that helped me make that decision is that they were drafting, and I wasn't going to let myself draft it and go somewhere that I didn't want to go. So I went to pilot training in Texas, and I tell you, what an experience there. It taught me a lot. whole lot about myself. I found that a lot of your success is wrapped up in your self -esteem and that a lot of people haven't seen themselves successful. They haven't been in that competitive environment where they've had. And when I got the pilot training, I was the only black that was in my class. They have a class of about 40 people and two classes going through at the same time. Well, I qualified for fighters. At the top part of your class, you qualify as fighters, and then the lower part.

24 you get other airplanes and helicopters. So I did that, and then I went to my assignment, which was an F -4 Phantom. And there I went to radar school and RTU and so forth, and ended up in Vietnam. And so that was... trip within itself. But it's amazing how you get used to danger. And pretty soon, after about three or four months, you get over it. You have to stay on a tour as one year. And so I did that and flew over 200 missions, combat missions there, and then came back and did some other training. And then eventually I said, well, I don't think I want to. do this for the rest of my life. And I got out. I really didn't know what I was going to do. But when I got out, somebody said, you look like an IBMer.

24 I said, what does that look like? And so they began to talk about it and what an IBMer is and computers. I said, okay. Well, maybe I'll do that, you know. I did go for an interview for a job in biology, and it was at a biological center. And I ended up, they said, let me show you where you would work. And they took me about seven stories underground, and I knew right then I didn't want to work there. And I could just see myself seven stories underground. But anyway, so. I got out and got with IBM. That's when I really learned a lot as well about business, how business works, what is revenue, what is expansion, and all the basics of business. As a matter of fact, we went to business programs for two or three weeks at a time with some of the professors of Harvard and so forth coming down and teaching us. So that went very well.

27 I did very well. I had some struggles to begin with, but I worked them out. But I saw how business was run. I saw the different CEOs and how they ran their businesses. And I had to work their business out on a flip chart or some kind of presentation device. And the next thing you know, I went out and made them a presentation of their business and how they could succeed by using my equipment. I did well there, sold computers, and then got to management and had a team that sold, and then I got promoted again and again.

12 So I did very well. But then I said, you know, this thing right here is just... I have a feeling that I'm supposed to do something else. Wow. And that's when the call came on my life that I was to be in ministry. So God said, I'm going to put all those together for you. And he started putting all those together in ministry. And I started in ministry in Chicago. I put the picture up there. And I started in Chicago. And this is where we started. It's down on the west side of Chicago. It was one of the roughest areas in Chicago. Big, a lot of drugs, so forth and so on. But that's where I started. Got my feet wet. And then pretty soon, just because of knowledge, just began to grow and expand. And now... We own two shopping malls, and maybe you can put the picture up there again and show you the kind of place I am now. Now, that's when I'm managing all these businesses and so forth, and things are working out just fine. Wow. So, you know, as I'm listening to you, Dr. Winston, you actually covered a lot. You talked about in military it gave you discipline. IBM taught you strategy.

30 taught you how to run a business. Ministry prepared you for the people. And now literally we've launched the Joseph Wealth Management, where ultimately God has given you this as a vision for the people for the end time of what's to come in preparing the church. Oftentimes you talk about storehouses and creating it as a sovereign wealth strategy. Can you talk a bit about it? Well, you need a storehouse. Right now we, using different places like banks and things like that to store our goods. But this storehouse that we're talking about now is a place where you can invest. And not only that, but through that investment, whoever is handling your account, that we could take a part of that that you would make in terms of profit, if you will. actually helped pay for some of the real needed programs in the inner city. Yes. So now you can see I'm mixing everything together. Yes. And everything's paying off. So we have the Joseph Stilhaus Program, which people are actually investing and making money at the same time, helping their country. That's in these T -bills. talking about buying something that

01 we used to have U .S. savings bonds, if you remember. But now we can actually save and make money while we're doing it, you know, the old way where you put a savings account and you did get interest on that account. But nevertheless, it's a place where... I like the people of God to learn about investments. Most of the people, a lot of people who are very wealthy, have made a significant amount of that wealth in the stock market, in investments, in real estate. So we have got to get the idea for that. A lot of people think the church... It's a building, but it's not.

43 It has nothing to do with a building. It's the people. It's people. It's where people have been called out. So these people have been called out and having a place where they can invest and learn about investing and what the advantages of investment really are. You know, what I like you're talking about is that Ultimately, there is a world's way of doing things, but then there's also a kingdom model where God ultimately wants to prosper his people. He tells us that in 3 John 2, beloved above all things, he wished that we prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper. And here's what's funny. So there are people who are investing and more of the elites and those that are in the world understand the power of investing, the power of creating a storehouse, the power of actually compounding, making your money work for you while you sleep. That's right.

35 What do you think is the disconnect as to why we don't see this as prevalent in the church? Usually what happens is the people of God have somewhat, many times, an image. And it's not that they're afraid to get out and do things, but an image affects people. It will make you make decisions that perhaps are not the best decision. People with low self -esteem and so forth. So a lot of people come in the church because they need help. and so forth. They have had bad situations and have had some history that they'd like not to think about. And so they come in the church to get cleansed. They come in the church to get made whole. But that soul prospering is very key. And that image of who they really are in God's eyes has got to come.

38 And that's why I say in the world they start, with the end in mind, but in the kingdom, you start with the image in mind. And there are people who came back from spying out the land of Canaan in the Bible, and when they came back, these ten spies said, we can't take it. We see ourselves as grasshoppers, and so are we in their sight. Well, because of that, that group of... The Israelites died in the wilderness, never got into God's best. So I'm saying one of the things we do in this church is we really major on getting your image up. Because some people don't think they're worth the value of a Rolls Royce. They feel that a Rolls Royce is better than them, is more valuable than them, or a big home or whatever. So when God tries to give them the best, they won't take it. And so that is something that we have to work on and overcome. Yeah. You know, Pastor, as you're talking, it made me think about the name of our segment, which is called Faith and Finance. And I know oftentimes you've even had us read in this book by Rabbi Daniel Lappin, where he talked about that faith and finances initially were together. They were religion and theology were ultimately a part of ministry.

03 That's right. So the world has disconnected in some way. And now it seems as though the church feels left out because they don't associate having financial provision as part of God's provision. Yeah. How do we overcome that mindset? Well, it takes teaching and it doesn't it's not happening in a day. It takes a little while that you have got to let people know that Jesus was not. poor the the the they start with that now i think it starts with teaching because i was on uh looking at television one night on the news and this lady was on who happened to be over a theological department and she said you can't be rich and go to heaven yeah and so that damages people when you say that. It's the wrong idea. The Bible tells us to rightly divide the world, not wrongly.

58 So the idea about God the Father is rich. And if he has children or a family, they have the same status as God the Father. It's not something that you... It's not a kind of a richness that you want to just float. It's not for flaunting. It's not for that at all. But it's to help people. Yes. See, and a lot of people don't know that as a reason to be rich, so they never think you should be. And I'd rather be rich than poor, you know. Poverty is a part of the curse. And God doesn't want anybody to be poor. As a matter of fact, he wants you to get the money so that you can help those who are poor. And they need food, and they need sustenance, and they need a job, they need skills, everything like that.

59 Well, we take the money and help those things to become a reality in their lives. That's good. And Pastor, as you're talking, it reminded me that our company is called Joseph Wealth Management. Correct. But ultimately, you took it from the story of Joseph and the Bible. Yes. And we see that Joseph actually created an economic solution where he fed people in times of famine. Can you talk a bit about what was your vision when you decided to name us Joseph Wealth Management? Well, I like Joseph. I mean, he is my man. Joseph, you know, he had this dream and he told his brothers about the dream and they got jealous of them.

40 Now, his dream was a big dream because he even dreamed that his brothers bowed down to him, you know. And so that really incensed them and they tried to kill him. Well, they decided not to and they sold him instead to a traveling band of Israelites. These are businessmen going from another place down to Egypt. Well, they went down to Egypt and sold Joseph again as a slave, and he worked for a man named Potiphar. Once he started working for him, Potiphar's business began to grow. That's because the blessing was on Joseph for increase. Yes. And no matter where he went. So that happened, and his farm got big, and he started more businesses. This is the...

31 a person who he worked for now as a slave. And then Potiphar's wife made eyes at Joseph, and they told some things on him about some kind of sexual things. And next thing you know, Joseph got put in jail. Well, notice what he didn't do. Any place that Joseph went, he never got bitter. And that's the key. And that's why I say that people who don't know the Bible, have no real relationship with God through Jesus, could lose out at this point. The reason why is because evil can put such pressure on you until that hating people and so forth. becomes second nature. You just do it. And so the next thing that happens, when you do that, you lose your place in line to be promoted. I remember it happened to me. I was supposed to give a big presentation at IBM. And so before I went to give the presentation, the previous night, I went over to a friend's house. And we were talking and so forth. And he was a... A black man, he was telling me all the things they're doing to him that are racially motivated and so forth,

02 and he was angry and so forth. Well, the Bible says, watch, you're hanging out with an angry man because you'll become angry yourself. So I went to the presentation the next day, and do you know, anger came out. Wow. Well, I didn't know it, but they were from IBM headquarters coming down to promote me. But I acted such, excuse me, a fool. until they decided not to promote me. My boss was so angry. But that just shows you, if Joseph would have acted up, he would have not gotten promoted. He wouldn't have finished his destiny. And some people don't realize that that's a test. And so they get angry and begin to do things and file suit and all kinds of things. And they never make it to that top.

56 But that's just a word to the wise. It happened to me, and God now is making up for it, of course. But sometimes you delay your destiny when you do that. But when Joseph got put in prison... Never got angry. Next thing you know, Pharaoh had a problem that he couldn't solve. And somebody said, well, there's a dreamer in the jail. And they called Joseph up there. And Joseph told him what he dreamed and what the problem was. what the solution was, and they said, you're the man. And put Joseph, who was a Jew, who the Egyptians really didn't like, they put him in second command to Pharaoh. So I'm saying, I don't care what color or what background or what country or whatever you're from, if you've got the goods, you can get promoted. Amen. You know what, Dr.

50 Winston? This has been a very powerful segment. For those of you who have been watching, one thing that I do, want you to take note of is what pastor has talked to us. Well, we call him pastor, but you'll know him as officially Dr. Bill Winston. He has taught us about vision and identity, talking about tying and making sure that who we are and how we identify ourselves is tied to what God has said. Hold on to your heavenly vision. He told us that Joseph's brothers hated him for his vision. And many of you may actually be sitting on the vision that God has placed on the inside of you, whether it be a business, whether it's stepping out and doing that ministry, writing that book, whatever it is that God wants to use as a source to bring income and provision into your life, God is waiting on your yes in this moment. What I like, pastors, that you've told us is that Joseph ultimately was guided step by step. I can also see that God is no respecter of person. You literally went from an Air Force pilot to an IBM executive to a pastor to owning 20... Plus companies. Yes, indeed. Talking about how God ideally will guide your footsteps and your vision. $200. $200. Tell those who do not know about the $200. Because I know many of you are probably listening like, what is $200? What is he talking about? Can you tell them just a bit about the $200? This is when I was called. And I went to theology school.

17 And then when God told me where to go, he said, go back to Chicago. Well, I came to Chicago with only $200. No more savings, no nothing. Me and my family, but God told me to come here. A dear sister said that God spoke to her and told her to take us in until we get started in Chicago. That was God all the way. And so we started at Lake and Pulaski. Put the picture up there. And we started at Lake and Pulaski. That was... That was where it was all started. They stole my car and everything. I mean, we were catching the bus, walking to that bad neighborhood. So we did it, and we committed ourselves to it, which allowed God to take us under his wing and just promote us. So we got to the next place and the next place and the next place. I'm just saying, look at us now. But I'm just saying that's what, This faith walk will do. And a lot of times we don't apply faith to finances, but let me tell you, faith can get your finances together, get you in a wonderful place. So I might say to those who are watching that if you haven't found out about faith or studied faith or heard a person teaching on faith, you owe yourself. a good favor

50 to do that. So faith is what we use to get us here and faith is what we're going to use to take us forward. Amen. Dr. Winston, we want to thank you for sharing such a powerful word. To everyone listening, your vision matters and your storehouse matters. Write that vision. pray over it and prepare to build. Visit josephwealthmanagement .com to schedule a call and take the next steps in aligning your finances with God's purpose. And don't forget. Be sure to like, share and subscribe. Make sure you hit that notification bell and be sure to tune in for our next episodes of Faith and Finance. We'll see you soon. In today's faith segment, let's look at the story of Joseph. Before Joseph ever touched a grain of wheat, he was given a dream.

53 Joseph was just a teenager when God gave him a vision, not a job title, not a business plan, but a vision, a picture of leadership, of stewardship, of impact. At first, that vision didn't come with applause. It came with betrayal, thrown in a pit, sold as a slave, falsely accused, forgotten in prison. But the dream never died. In every setback, Joseph stewarded the moment. In Potiphar's house, he rose to leadership. In prison, he managed resources. And when Pharaoh needed answers, it was Joseph's vision forged in the dark that finally brought light to a nation. Here's the truth.

37 Provision is tied to vision, but not your vision, God's. Joseph didn't hustle his way to the palace. He served his way with purpose. And when the famine came, he already had the strategy because heaven had shown him years before. If you're waiting on provision, ask yourself, have I received the vision? Because God doesn't bless ambition. He blesses assignment. Write that vision, steward the moment, and prepare your storehouses today.
