Reclaiming What The Western Church Has Lost

Today, I have a special friend, Reverend Fabio Pellucci, who is an international speaker. He's a pastor, and he's actually the CEO of International Union. He's doing amazing work worldwide. He's mobilizing leaders and organizations and social and spiritual transformation all over the world. He's got his hands on the pulse of what God is doing in the nations today. And we're going to hear it because we want to know, especially as church leaders, what God is doing, making sure that we're serving him with excellence.

1:21 and that we discern the times that we're in. Pastor Fabio, it's so good to be with you, my brother. God bless you. So glad to see you again. Amen. Amen. I have been blessed from the first time that we began speaking. And I want the audience to get to know you a little bit. You've been working in Sub -Saharan Africa. You've been all over the world. You're working with leaders. Tell us your personal story a little bit. I think it's valuable for them to hear where you've come from and what you're doing today. Amen. My personal story is so simple. One day we just choose with my family to be available for Jesus Christ and for the gospel. And in my Bible studies, in my classroom, one day during a study of eschatology, we focused on Revelation chapter five. verse 9, that it talks and says that they will sing a new song and sing it to the Lamb, Jesus Christ.

2:26 People of every nation, tongues, tribes. And I felt a uniform on me wow that was my call that already got prepared before in my secular job and studies for high standard luxury hospitality the language that i learned all the background that i had now i realized in that classroom that i was ready to go for every tribe people language nations wow so god gave you a mandate to leave what you were doing I really felt to receive like a uniform to go for every nation. And I knew that I was ready to deal with every kind of culture and every kind of people. I really see my life already there. And I knew that something was starting to happen. So I gave everything away because I was trying to do a decision with me and my God. But then I really felt that if I didn't choose that kind of life for the gospel, for Jesus Christ, I just missed the point over my life. You know, and this is a powerful thing because a lot of people who are in ministry today, they have answered a call. We can't deny it.

3:57 It caused me to leave things behind. We must pursue what God has given to us to do. I really want to talk with you because you may be thinking that, you know, you're going to church on Sunday or maybe you're in Christian leadership now. But I want to tell you, you always have to find that that fire of the call, that that that that unction in inside of you that says, I cannot stay the same. I must do what God's called me to do. And be bold about that, because that's where your destiny is. And it's powerful that you're saying that, Pastor Pellucci, because you couldn't remain the same. You couldn't miss the purpose of your life. I'm not the same anymore.

4:40 Of course, when you start the journey with Jesus in Christ with the Holy Spirit, you will not be the same. running hospitality business, three hotels in Rome, St. Moritz, Lando, Victoria Castles. My guests were leaders of the world of the so -called... VIP and you know that everybody was there and I was serving but I was walking on their marbles in that luxury style and I felt something it was wrong with me, with my call, with the call that God gave to me and so I had the decision. The book of Hebrew really showed me a clear path. One day the Lord showed me the life of Moses that was called Prince of Egypt, then he choose to be in the desert with the people of God. I was literally just thinking about Moses when you were sharing. Yeah. And this is what happened. So I felt to be myself as an Amaya also, because Amaya was in the building of Susa, you know, with these beautiful buildings and the palace, the royal palace. And with this condition, it was fine. But then something happened in my heart. Something really has to be there for a decision for my God. And I made it. And so...

6:06 So tell us, because you didn't just go to any area in the world. You went to the 1040 window. You went into areas that were dangerous. So you really took the call seriously. And for those who don't know, the 1040 window is a term that's utilized for where the gospel is essentially illegal to preach and to live. So tell us a little bit about your experience. When I was running and cooperating as a pastor, co -pastor in Rome, then with our elders, we just knocked the door of a mission department. It was opening. And so I said to my wife, we need to pray. I think that there is a great need, as I knew, in Niger, Sahel, in sub -Sahara. And at that time, the 2013, if you remember, there was the Charlie Hebdo and they start to burn. at least 70 churches in that country, and they were just a family, Italian family there. So I felt and I said to the elders, I will go where it's needed now.

7:09 So we started our journey in 2016 in Mission Field in Jadis area, in Attila Berry area, and we preached the gospel with such joy, and we see a fruit that today is amazing what we're seeing today. Tell us a little bit about what you experienced, because I, you know, I think having served in Italy and in Europe and familiar with the westernization of Christianity and now you're in Niger and you're preaching the gospel. What did you experience when you preach the gospel there? What was different maybe about what you saw or how they live in sacrifice? for Christ.

7:59 When I stepped in Niger, I remember that red sand of the desert. But when I stepped with my family there, we discovered our call and our identity, because, you know, in that areas, you don't have any help. You don't have the church. You have the brotherhood, the fellowship, the songs. You don't have your ambulance. You have your doctors. So many things. What do you have? is God Almighty. And so we discovered that when we step in that land in mission field without any comfort, we discover a different God in our life. And our identity as a minister, it just showed up in a different way because we saw healing.

8:45 We saw people demon possessed. There's a lot of animism. 98 % is a Muslim country, but mainly is an animism that is there. And so we saw different, different experience, but we were just led by the Holy Spirit and the anointing of God every day. And so from Maifa style luxury hotels to the desert, they will come, they became that place, Maifa style luxury, five star, because it was a blessing to us. the real, the pureness of God in our life, in our identity, while we were serving people and preaching the gospel, proclaiming Jesus. You know, I know you recently ministered at the United Nations. We were able to be together. And we're gonna meet your wife Francesca soon. And they had pictures. in the UN that were depicting the area that you were in, correct? And I saw Francesca's eyes tear with so much love for the people. And I can feel you're still carrying that now. Of course. Our heart is in Niger, it's for Africa. We don't belong anymore to Rome or Italy. We belong to Africa and Europe. Of course, our family is still there. We had the privilege to baptize, adopt spiritual sons, the church, the orphanage that

10:16 we take care of, and now also in other countries like Burkina Faso. We opened Mission Field in Ethiopia. In Senegal, we touched Gambia. Next will be Rwanda and Kenya for Africa. And so, of course, our heart is there. Our family is there. We can't wait always to go back when we can. So tell me, what did this do to change your perspective of Christianity, of God, or even missions? What did this experience being in that environment change your perspective? It changed my perspective, Pastor Steve, because our Western world and Christianity lives in a comfort. But when you're there, you really discover that you can live with the essential, but also you can not live without Jesus in your heart, to be filled of all the spirit, to have that intimacy with him, to hear his voice, because when you are in that place, it's so dangerous, you really be, you need to hear the voice of God that it tells you go forward or go back, or. you know, continue to do this work. It teach you in a different ways. So you you really need you. You cannot joke. You just need to be in intimacy with the Almighty God. So we were we were. Kind of discussing

11:47 a little bit this this idea that the Western Church, the America, UK and some of Australia and things, what we know of Christianity today is is different. A lot of people are trying to get more comfortable. And you're saying that there's a reality that faith is operating at a different level. Tell us about Europe, though. Let's shift from Africa to Europe. And what have you seen in even Europe and in the United States? Because there's a difference. There is a huge difference. Yeah, but I believe that if the Lord give us comfort to us that comfort it means that we can be a solid help for others in these countries like Africa or the south of the world so the comfort that we have is a blessing in a measure that we give this comfort for the kingdom of God and for the work of God and for the 1040 window, for example. So the difference is that now in Africa, there is a huge need of Jesus Christ, the sound doctrine, and people are waiting for the good news. But for Europe, for example, I believe that Europe now is the prodigal son that has to come back to the father and search again that kind of identity that we are losing.

13:20 which is a shame because we are still the people of God that can continue to do mission and honor is word. It's interesting you're bringing out this idea that Europe is a prodigal son, so on some level they've left the heart of the father in the church. I believe so. God is calling them back. There is this risk and God is calling us back to leave the book of Acts. God is calling us back to leave the Holy Spirit, the fresh anointing, the fresh oil that every day is for His people. In America, America in many ways needs to do the same thing. We thank God for America. Amen.

14:08 America has sent so many missionaries all over the world. Much of the movement of God in many countries was started from American missionaries. But I believe that American Christians have forgotten their beginnings. And there's a big shift that's happening. And we know, or many know, that about every 500 years or so, from first century church Christianity that was apostolic, missional, reliant on the Holy Spirit, they spread the gospel. all throughout Europe, all throughout Asia, and they didn't have money, they didn't have the internet, they didn't have political favor in many places.

14:58 It was persecuted, but the faith spread. And about every 500 years, we went to medieval Catholicism and the Crusades, and we move all the way through, through the Reformation, and much time has passed since Jesus Christ walked on the earth. And I hear you saying that we need to return. We need to return. And actually, I want to tell you something because you mentioned the United States of America. We are blessed. My Bible school has been blessed from the United States. If I was sitting in that classroom, it's because of American Christians. Yes. So the gospel that had arrived in Italy, I received that fruit of you guys. And so I really want to thank and I would love to really Share these with all the American Christians from the bottom of my heart. Please continue to shine and continue to bless the nations. We have such an example for you, from you. We've been blessed.

15:59 I've been blessed. My family has been blessed. Has been blessed even in Niger, in the sub -Sahara where we were working. We remember the encouragement that we had. my son has been trained in school by American missionaries. And so we will continue to tell you, continue to shine, to shine with your light, your generosity, your personality, your smile, your doctrine, the teaching, the comfort that we received from you American Christians. Continue to go to the nations. We are grateful for each one of you and also I want to thank Pastor Steve because there in Niger, I remember that I had not any material in French for our kids. Hundreds of kids that want to know about Jesus and thank God for the Samaritan Purse with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. They delivered all the materials. Where did it come from? from the United States. So thank you for what you have continued to do, continue to shine for the world together. Amen. Amen. And it's beautiful because God has not given up on America.

17:10 God has not given up on Europe. And I believe the greatest days for the church are not behind us. I believe they're ahead of us. But I think we need to understand and unpack a little bit. What did we lose? What's been the gradual shift in values and our understanding of Christianity? Maybe you can talk with that a little bit. What are the things that you've seen and experienced? If we go all the way back in time and look at the first century church, and we look at the movement of the institutional church today, what are some of the things we need to recover? We need to recover for sure. the fear of God. We are losing the fear of God. If we are losing the fear of God, we are losing everything. If you can see the Christian world today, Pastor Steve, we can have the mobs, we can have the dancing, we can have all the activities that we have. But in front line for the Christian community worldwide, we have women, and children.

18:21 For other religions, for others, for example the Muslims, we do have men in front line and with their own kind of respecting the doctrine of their own religion. We as a Christian, we are losing the fear of God and we are not respecting our God. So we need to come back for that. Jesus even said this, he said to even the Jews then, he said, you worship me with your lips, but your heart is far from me. I think there's so much religious activity, but have we met God? Have we met him in a way that we fear him? That's a different question. We need to come back and also for the next generation, we need to meet God again in intimacy. Advice we will have we will be forced to meet God in time of persecution That will be the time that for sure people they will have to make a choice I believe that we are in a time that the world is really divided There will be songs of darkness. Yeah songs of light Judeo -christian values other values Darkness and light. That's what we are facing today even in the politics, you have the right and the left.

19:52 And there will be not anymore a great zone soon. Even Christians, they will make a choice which part they have to fight for. Yeah, this is very, very, very vital. The reality is that we're often trying to blend in, and God wants us to glorify him. Amen. Which means you don't put a city down below, you put it on a hill. You don't put the light down. You put it up where people can see it. And I believe that God is calling for that separation. And I believe God is calling for those who can represent him as he truly is. Amen.

20:36 And we need to fear him. We need his fear. And also what we need, we need to worship and adore. the god of the genesis that from the first day is separate light to the darkness right yes so let's come back from that god yes we want that god we will proclaim that kind of god we want to see that god then it will manifest will continue to manifest even in the last days from the very beginning in genesis god said let there be light and it was light and it says god divided the light from the darkness and all throughout the scripture there's a separation and um One of the things that's amazing is about the nation of Israel. Much controversy about the nation of Israel. But one of the things that really impacts me is in Exodus chapter 19 verse 6, God says, I'm making a people to be my special treasure.

21:33 And he called Israel to show forth his glory so that all the nations of the earth would see the goodness of God. they would see the glory of God. And Israel was created as a type of grace so that all the Gentile nations would come and long after. We know that God called Abraham and he called him out of the land of the Chaldeans and he separates him from his previous life and he calls him to a new land. And many people know the story when God called Abraham to sacrifice the son of Providence, Isaac. And a lot of people think that God was showing forth Abraham's faith.

22:23 But I wanna read a verse that I believe is powerful because right when Abraham was going to sacrifice his son, his son of promise, in Genesis chapter 22, It says here, it says in verse 11, it says, but the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, Abraham, Abraham. And so he said, here I am. And he said, do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him for now I know that you fear God. Since you have not withheld your son, your only son from me. Pastor Fabio, I'm really moved by this text because a lot of people, they're saying, you know, it's just about faith. But I believe even deeper than faith, even deeper than mentally agreeing with God is has Abraham met God in such a way that he would obey him even to the point of sacrificing his own son. And that's what I think about, that fear of the Lord is the beginning. It's the beginning.

23:47 It's the genuine feeling that bring us to others and to God and deliver to the next generation the right way to serve the Almighty God. Otherwise is everything so superficial and with mediocracy. It's time now that we need to avoid every kind of mediocracy. We need to excel in Jesus Christ. Even the Ten Commandments has been done and created for the people, for the nation. What are we waiting for? Why are we waiting to give this kind of love and light to the world? Yes. So what Abraham did and what you're speaking about is No middle ground. It's all in. I obey. Obedience. That's radical. Radical. There's no other way. What we're teaching our next generation, what we're teaching all the next missionaries about every kind of missions, it can be humanitarian, it can be any kind of creativities, but if we don't teach the nation that the Almighty God has been full of radical, because with radical act, he gave Jesus Christ, and radically we will follow him, we lose, we miss the point. You know, I've often said that the measure of our faith can

25:20 be measured by the depth of our bow. How much I know God will determine how deeply I bow. Even in the Asian cultures, it's very, very common that the greater the respect, the deeper and the longer that they will bow before the individual they're in front of. How much more Be son of God. If we don't know him, we don't bow. And if we don't know him well, we don't bow deeply.

26:01 I remember this experience that I had when my son was born. For the doctor, it was very difficult. We can have... a child, probably with an artificial insemination, they said. But when we went to the honeymoon in Zanzibar, Francesca, my wife, she came back pregnant. But when Samuele was delivered, I felt from the spirit. It was a 2009 July. I took my son and I say, Lord, this is a gift that you gave to us. Help us to to grow and to help this boy, but I want to give it to you, consecrate this boy for you, for your service, for the gospel, because you are worth it. You deserve whatever we will go, whatever we will do. But then 2009, then 2016 in Samoile, he was like six years old almost, and we were ready to go to the mission field. And the Holy Spirit reminded me that day and say, now you're going in a mission field in an area which is difficult.

27:16 You don't know really if you can come back. They're burning churches. You don't know. And so the Holy Spirit reminded me Abraham and reminded me that kind of feeling that I had. So I took again some while in prayer and I said, Lord, we will go in Niger and we will go for you. If we live or if we die, we belong to you. I consecrate even my son, my wife to you on the altar. Why this? Because I remember that when we passed through that red ribbon that was after the Capitol, we were just in the middle of the desert and we didn't know really what can happen for American soldiers, unfortunately, they've been killed in Tilleberry City, 2018, and it all really helped me in that situation. So I realized that that kind of radical position for my God, for our God, for the one that He sent us, for the one that He gave His only Son, which kind of life I can live without these mission, without this life, fearing our God and give everything that belongs to us for His glory. So when we become saved, we're supposed to become crucified with

28:54 Christ. We're supposed to die. Our dreams, our personal passions, our personal plans, our personal preferences are supposed to die with Christ on the cross. And then in resurrection, we experience a new life. Hallelujah. And now we receive the glorious plans that Jesus Christ created us to walk in. So Ephesians chapter 2 verse 10 says that we are his workmanship, translated creative masterpieces, and that God has already prepared the works for us, but we can't get to that work unless we die with Christ. We need to die. Let's die. Let's die. Let's die to Jesus Christ. When we die for Jesus Christ, then we can experience the power of resurrection. We'll be not me that is living, but it's Christ that is living in me. So let's die together for Christ so that the power of resurrection that can live in your house. through your children, with your husband, through the illness, for wherever you are passing

30:25 through, you will be standing by the power of His resurrection. Let's die in Christ. Amen. We have to hear this. Go ahead. I need to tell you something else. You know, when I was in a Bible school, everybody, we wear a tie. And as Italian, we'll lie. to have the tie, the shoes, and stuff. So I say, oh, I'm learning the Word of God. Soon I will preach. I love to preach the Word. And then I serve in a church. I helped my pastor with the youth ministry, evangelism, whatever I was trying to do. And then with him as elder for six months, three months, six years. And then I was in a hospitality business. So our church was full of professionals, stylists and lawyers. And so I had my time, my jacket.

31:17 And I love to, of course, preach the word. And I refer myself as a preacher. Okay, I thought to be a preacher. But then when I and then and then a pastor, right? But then when I stepped in mission field in Africa, I discovered different stuff, different thing for me. I became a doulos, doulos in Greek is a slave. Chapter one, verse one of Romans. Wow. Paul called. To be a bond servant. To be a doulos. Yeah, doulos, yeah. Yeah. Paul, doulos of Jesus Christ. Yeah, yeah.

31:58 Called to be an apostle. And what's so powerful about that. And so, from there, you die. So what's so powerful about that language is that Paul describes that slavery as a bond servant slave, which means he willingly. Willingly. became that he wasn't he wasn't conscripted or or drafted or or enslaved. He willingly died. Amen. Because I want to be a slave or my father king. Hallelujah. Because we were slaves of Satan. Yes, Satan.

32:40 He takes your life and he brings you like a dog. Around the cities and killing your life, that's slavery. but our my god yes the king of king is a king is a father yes and i willingly submit to my father the king so so so powerful because a slave isn't doing what they want to do a slave is doing what their master wants to do exactly the people that they were they were slaves they had no choice they could not ask for um today i would love to eat a lasagna You cannot. You have whatever your master gives you. And the master can sell you or keep you. He can make you die or live. You're a slave. We are slaves of Jesus Christ. He knows what we need. And we don't ask, we don't argue. because he's a lovely king, lovely father. And you know what's amazing is even this language that we're using as we're speaking, this is not common language in the American or in the European church, you know?

33:50 The message of the gospel is often presented as saying, do you want peace? Do you want this good thing? Do you want prosperity? Do you want this? No, the invitation of the true gospel of Jesus Christ is die with him so that you could live with him. And even living as a slave in the kingdom, you live better, you live better, you live better than the kings of the world. And if some Christian and bond server of the kingdom of God, they are rich because God make them rich, guess for what reason? To bless. To bless. Because it's the purpose of our king or our father to bless others. So that's not a problem at all. So let me unpack this a little bit further because I want us to be really clear. A lot of times in the European, especially, anyway, all over the world, the American version of the gospel has infiltrated. But I want to help you understand something because we're not going to experience this power unless we understand how. The American church in many ways preaches a gospel that doesn't require death. And the resurrection power of Jesus Christ only is experienced when we die.

35:10 Exactly. But if we go into a coma, and this is why I think the American church is in, we look dead. We lay down, look dead, but didn't die. We only act like our old life is dead. We never experience true resurrection power. So we need an awakening. starting from Europe, from the Western world. We need to found ourself on the Bible again. We need to teach our children, and I hope that my nation, Italy, pray for Italy, please pray for my nation, Italy, and for Europe. We need, and I want, and I would love to have the Bible back in school. I think that we need for the next generation, and yes. And here's my conviction, the conviction because to some people that says, wow, I have to die, I have to become a slave. But the reality is that you won't give your life up if you haven't really met Jesus. That's true. Because you're evaluating, right? We're evaluating. Maybe, maybe I'll give a little bit. Maybe I'll give a little bit more.

36:20 Yeah, wow, that's really radical to give most of your life. But when you meet Jesus, You meet the King of all creation, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Alpha and the Omega. You meet the Holy One of Israel and you see His value. You behold Him. We have no problem falling prostrate before Him and saying, Lord, here I am. Take all of me. You're worth all my life. You don't even think about it. You realize what He did for us. He gave His life on the cross. He gave everything to make us sons and daughters. And we don't any longer measure out our offering.

37:04 This is what I believe we need to be called back to, that you would seek his face, that you would seek him, that you may find him, because when you find him, you're going to give everything with joy. Yeah, but everybody today, probably they are consuming their life for something. Yeah. Any somehow. Yeah. So probably Today people are consuming, giving their life to something, legal and illegal. They're destroying their life. So your life probably is consuming by the work, the business, the worries, and everything that you are doing probably with drugs, under alcohol, and prostitution. You're consuming your life anyway. we can make a choice today to make Jesus, the King of Kings, consume our life for Him because the life will be absorbed for somebody, for something anyway, so I prefer that it will be absorbed and consumed by Jesus Christ and for the Gospel.

38:19 Who gives life eternal. Amen. Let's read this, Romans chapter 6 verse 16. And it speaks about slavery. So let's look at this. It says, do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey? You are that one slave whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness. But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, Yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered and having been set free Hallelujah from sin you became slaves of Righteousness.

39:12 Amen. We're not making this up. This is in the text exactly So that's that's that that's the answer. It's a it's a it's some choice is a choice that we need to make. It's a one more day choice that every nation has to make so we can go to the other nation that are going to go to gospel. We can preach the gospel. They will choose. And trust me, they choose Jesus. There are many are just this month. We had the twelve baptism in a sub Sahara. Why? Because people are choosing the light. And so we need to choose again. This is the story that we see. patterned from Genesis throughout 66 books of the Bible into Revelation that says, like Moses, he said, I place before you life and death. Choose life. Choose. This is the decision that every church leader, every pastor, every minister of God, every mom, every dad, we need to have the gospel clear that the gospel is a proclamation that Jesus Christ is Lord. He's the Son of God. He came to die for us, but He's coming back. Amen. And the Bible is telling us throughout the entire library of books, choose. Whom will you serve? So leaders,

40:51 I want to tell you and believers in Jesus, this is not just about where are you going to go to church or what Bible translation are you going to read or what denomination are you going to ascribe to. This is deeper than all of that. This says who truly will be my Lord. Amen. If we choose the cross, we will have a multiplication. If we choose other things, we have subtraction and division. It's a choice that we need to make as leaders today to put at a center Jesus Christ in every nation, the Bible, the Word of God, the pure Word of God, and receive that kind of intimacy with God. the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, and most of all to share the Bible to the next generation before it can be too late.

41:51 You know, one of the verses that has really impacted me, especially in leadership, because we lead the church, we help build churches, we minister to churches, and the church is the grand strategy of Jesus Christ. And in the book of Revelation, preceding Revelation 5 .9 is this chapter where the angel of the church of Ephesus is described, and they're really doing well. They're really, really doing well. I mean, Ephesus was a hub of the Apostle Paul. It was a training center.

42:36 Paul spent the majority of his time there. Longest time anywhere he spent was in Ephesus. It was a major area for the gospel and for the mission, but it says here in verse four of chapter two in the book of revelations, nevertheless, I have this against you that you have left your first love. Can you talk to us about what God is looking for in Him being our first love? Because this conversation says we leave everything that we used to love. Exactly. We leave every other girlfriend.

43:23 Exactly. We leave every other affection for one. For one. Yes, because when we meet Jesus, if you really meet Jesus, For the eternal purpose they ask What has value more than that? the love that you receive and you received when you Received Jesus and the salvation in him that kind of love that kind of peace They kind of embrace Who else can give that? then We are people that probably we abuse of love and we forget what we received and where they come from because we are human.

44:14 God bless us and then we forget our devotion and intimacy with them. If I don't have intimacy with him, if I don't make myself in a corner with him and to receive the... the communion with him and with the fellowship of the church, I lose that love. Do you remember the time that God saved you? Yes, I do. That's kind of love. Yeah. Where is it now? This is what we need to ask ourselves every leader. And in the measure that we will continue to have their first love with them, we continue to love family and others.

So let's continue to build together as an international union.

And we are so glad to know that you can be added in this network that we're having. because we know that one day that people, nation, tribes, languages, they will sing one song. They will be united. Leaders, stay together. We be one. We are the union in Christ, in Jesus Christ, the King of Kings. We will continue to pray together. Let's connect.
