Introduction

Dr. Steve Greene: I've got a special show for you today. I'm really glad you tuned in. You picked a great day with a great guest. Not so sure about the host, but I know this guest is a favorite of our Charisma audience and I'm honored to have him on our show. His name is Michael Snyder. You know him, and you probably have an opinion or two about some of what he writes and what he thinks. But one of the things I respect most about him is he's bold. He's going to tell you the truth as he sees it and let the chips fall where they may. I like that and respect that about him. I was interested in talking with Michael for several reasons. But one of the stories that has developed recently is on his website even now. So, I'll introduce that website to your first before we even get a real good start with him. I would love to send you there, but not during the podcast. The name of his website is theeconomiccollapseblog.com Let's start there. I was looking at it and I try to look at it about every other day or so. And of course, he's a regular writer for us on Charisma News. So, I like that about him. Our people really respond to Michael. That’s what you need to get to do in life is to have something to say that people respond to. It doesn't do us any good for the whole world to agree with us, because we probably aren’t changing anything. But I believe Michael is bold because he believes what he believes. I think you'll hear that in this podcast. So, I want to encourage you to hang around and listen. I want to speak specifically about this cheating scandal that's going on in college admissions. I think we'll start there with my friend and our author here at Charisma. It just means so much to the Charisma family. Welcome to the show, Michael Snyder.

I know how busy you are, and how much time you have. I think we have to start with how a man living on a mountain in Idaho could develop the kind of reputation and following that you have in a relatively short period of time.

Michael Snyder: It's been such an amazing journey that God has had my wife and I on because I went to the University of Florida Law School, and we’ll talk about college admissions in a moment. But from there, God led me back to the Washington D.C., area where I was actually working as an attorney right in the heart of Washington, D.C. In fact, sometimes on my lunch hour, I would go and walk past the White House. That's how close to the center of things I was. So, you think that if you're going to impact the world, Washington, D.C., perhaps the most important city on the planet, would be a great place to do that. But the God took me and my wife out of there. Then my writing really started to take off and we eventually moved to the mountains of Idaho, literally in the middle of nowhere. It was from here in the middle of nowhere, that God is using us to impact people literally all over the world, where over the last nine years, our websites been visited more than 100 million times. My articles are featured on dozens of conservative Christian websites all over the country where they are read far more than even on our own websites. So, here in the mountains of Idaho, we’re engaged in the marketplace of today because where people gathering today? It's online, it's on the Internet. You can go out and preach on the street corner, but people are just going to drive by you most of the time.

Dr. Steve Greene: OK, I have to ask you this question. Why? I mean, you left a good job in D.C., living in the center of everything that's happening. Why Idaho? I mean, you could have gone like to the Midwest, I pick the city. But no, you wanted to live in the mountains of Idaho? Why?

Michael Snyder: Yeah, I think that's a really good question. Well, my wife and I, it took a long process of prayer and seeking God and we knew we wanted to kind of be up in the Northwest. We felt led up there because my wife's family is actually from Canada, So, we wanted to live not too far from them because a lot of them don't know the Lord and we wanted to be a witness to them. We wanted to be located strategically for the things that are coming to this country that we're concerned about. So, eventually the Lord open up a door for us with a wonderful piece of property up here in north Idaho, and we've been very, very blessed up here. It's a nice, quiet life. In fact, I'm looking out it's at some snow-covered mountains across the valley; a beautiful, beautiful area of the country. It's a great, quiet place to write. It's an amazing thing in this day and age the Internet is used for all kinds of terrible things, but it's also used for good things. From where I am sitting up here, I can't see anybody from where I am right now. But literally, I hear from people all over the world that are impacted by my writing. I’m being used by the Lord to reach people through the books, the interviews I do, the writing I do, all the things that we do. So literally, we have a worldwide ministry touching people on a very widespread basis. While when I was in D.C. a decade ago, nobody knew who I was, nobody cared who I was. I wasn't having any widespread impact for the kingdom. So, it's amazing how God works. But he really has had us on a remarkable journey.

Dr. Steve Greene: Obviously you're right in the center of God's will because you are seeing fruit. That's the first sign of evidence is there's fruit from where we are planted.

Michael Snyder: There's no way that all the things that have happened over the past decade could have ever happened without God. When we first came up here and we just felt God had us in a time of preparation in seeking him, praying and studying. So, we prayed. We worked, we wrote, we did the things we felt that God was leading us to do and then he opened doors that we never even imagined were possible. I would have never imagined that I would be featured on Charisma News someday or all these other websites that I really admired. But God just kept opening door after door and he's really using us. I think with a timely message for this hour, along with so many other wonderful people, so many wonderful people in the Charisma family are warning America that hey, we need to turn back to God because the path that we are on doesn't lead anywhere good.

Dr. Steve Greene: That's right you can preach that as long as you want to on this show. So, I've got to ask you a real personal question. Did you get some help to get into law school at University of Florida? Did someone make sure you passed those tests and get you admitted?

Michael Snyder: I wish. The scandals exploded in the news over the last 24 hours. It really goes to the heart of what's fair in this country, a sense of fair play. I even applied to Yale University when I went to law school. But I didn't get in of course. I ended up going University of Florida law school. But I wanted to go to Yale University. So, I applied and I assumed at the time that the process would be fair. But now, of course it's come out that we have these wealthy parents, they were paying very large bribes and all kinds of cheating was happening to get their children into these elite schools. A lot of people are deeply offended by that, that these actresses, these famous people, these wealthy people, would cheat and manipulate the system in order to get their children preferential treatment. It's very disturbing.

Dr. Steve Greene: Big cheating. They wrote some great big checks to make sure their kids got into school. My background is in college academics as a professor and then later as a dean. So, I really care about fair play. We want to admit students that are worthy academically and really not try to respond to, how about the word bribery? Can you call it anything other than that?

Michael Snyder: Oh, it was definitely bribes. In fact, actress Lori Loughlin whom we know and remember from Full House and the Hallmark Channel. Her and her husband actually paid out half a million dollars in bribes to get their two daughters into USC, the University of Southern California. It’s definitely bribes. In other instances, administrators of tests were being bribed to change answers on exams so there will be higher test scores to help them get in. In some cases, photoshop was being used to change photographs. What was happening is in some cases, college coaches were being bribed, hundreds of thousands of dollars to recruit the children of these wealthy people to play sports that they never even played. Photoshop would be used to actually put the faces of these children onto the bodies of real athletes to make it look like they were actually participating in these sports or had participated in these sports. It was a huge scam that stretched on for over a number of years. Dozens of people have already been arrested. It was widespread and involved some of the top universities in the country such as the University of Texas, Stanford University, and the list goes on. I'm glad that the federal government is cracking down. But this just shows this just another example of how corruption is literally infecting our society on every level. If you look at someone like Lori Laughlin on TV, I never would have guessed that she would have been involved in something like this. She seems so nice on TV. But our society, whenever you start peeling back the onion, you find corruption pretty much everywhere. This is just another example of that.

Dr. Steve Greene: Let me get real nice and ask you some harder questions, particularly about this actress. We know she is, it's public, it's everywhere and everybody knows what it is. But she's on this show that says it's a G-rated show. My goodness, there's only one or two of those left on TV. She represents a good, godly woman and teaches moral behavior and all those things. Now we find her in this mess that she probably didn't see … she’s a good mom trying to get her kid in the school. Probably the word bribery never came into her thought. I'm going to think good things about her and think that she was doing good for her daughter; not thinking that she was hurting the chances of some other young deserving students to get in, making sure that they didn't get chosen because she's a woman of means and could help out her daughter. Now we find her in this place where she could go to jail. So, here's the question after making my little speech.  My question for you is, how should we feel about her continuing on that show? Do we believe that she should be taken off? Does she belong on there? I won't name the name of the show because I like it and I care about the people that produce it? But is this a thing that we should care about as Christians that we won't let an actress play the role of someone moral when you have this kind of effect upon others?

Michael Snyder: At this point because of her legal issues, I think that she probably won't continue on this show. But you I personally hope that she doesn't go to prison. Personally, I hope that there's some mercy in this case because at the end of the day, I think this is how temptation comes a lot of times in something that we really want. We can even have good intentions. She just wanted her daughters to go to college. What she wanted was good things for her children. She wanted them to have an education and to have a bright future. But sometimes that's how temptation comes. It can come in the form of something we really want, and then we're tempted to take a route that God would not approve of to get to that goal. That’s what happened in this case. But unfortunately, so much of society, there's this facade and when you peel back the facade underneath … people are upset about this and rightly so, but how much worse is what's going on in so many other areas of our society. We get upset about this this this college entrance admission scandal, but meanwhile you look at something else that's come out in the news recently where we learned that literally what’s happening is scientists at these research laboratories are taking aborted baby parts that they have purchased from Planned Parenthood clinics, which the government funds the Planned Parenthood clinics. … the number one funding source for Planned Parenthood is U.S. government at about $500 million a year. And then Planned Parenthood auctions off these baby parts, which we just learned, are being used in experiments, that they're being confused on to mice to create human mouse hybrids, which are then used in bizarre experiments. The government is actually funding those experiments. So, this is a level of evil that's far beyond in my opinion, this college admission scandal. And the government is both funding Planned Parenthood, who is auctioning off the baby parts and committing the abortions and funding this research which is an absolute abomination. So, to me, this is another example, this hypocrisy, where we've got these members of Congress who say I'm a good Christian, I'm pro-life, vote for me. I'm a good Republican. But then they go to Congress and they keep voting to fund Planned Parenthood. They keep voting to fund this research was which was just renewed, even after it came out all the horrible things that were happening. To me, you cannot be pro-life and vote to fund these things. It’s the same kind of hypocrisy with this college cheating scandal. It’s on every level of society where we've got such evil, such hypocrisy. So, to condemn one element of it while ignoring the rest of it, I don't think is a good thing.

Michael Snyder Asks: Are We Destroying the Future to Live In the Present?
