Is “I Never Knew You” a Jewish Form of Excommunication?

Is “I Never Knew You” a Jewish Form of Excommunication?

When Jesus said, "I never knew you," was He using a known Jewish formula of excommunication? Dr. Brown walks you through the passage, the Talmud's use of that phrase in Moed Katan 16a, a weaker parallel in Eruvin 53a, and Craig Keener's commentary, then shows why it can mean either "you were never truly Mine" or "you were Mine and I am cutting you off."
