Holy Spirit Led Thoughts (321)

0:01 Once again, I want to welcome you to the quality Christian living podcast. I am your host David friend We're in a series dealing with the Holy Spirit and today's topic is Holy Spirit led thoughts and so today we will discover how it is possible for the Holy Spirit to help our thoughts in life and how can we defeat the attack of Satan on our mind and see how we can Control our thoughts and speak words that will please God We're gonna learn how the Holy Spirit helps us to live abundantly. So got a lot to cover but I know that the Lord's gonna help us with it, and so let's now go to the Holy Spirit and ask for his help. Heavenly Father, I thank you once again for who you are and for this podcast. I pray you would bless it and that you would anoint it, that the Holy Spirit would come in and direct my thoughts.

0:44 Help me as I read the scriptures to interpret them the way, Lord, that you desire for this podcast, that people receive something very special when I read the word today. Holy Spirit, do what only you can do. Take control, take charge, direct our thoughts, control our process, and help me to discuss only those that will be pleasing unto you and be a blessing to those listening in. I'll thank you for it in advance because I think great things are gonna take place today and I give you all the glory for it. In Jesus name I pray, amen. To get started, I think I need to make this statement. The Holy Spirit desires to help us in the battle for our mind. You know there's a battle every single day for our mind, for our thoughts, what we say, how we respond, how we react, and... It's something that the Bible tells us about and warns us about that we need to submit and surrender ourselves to the Lord and let the Holy Spirit speak through us and use us in a way that only He can do. And so we really want to focus on that today and how the Holy Spirit has a plan for us and a way to help us to win the battle over our mind and to think those things that will be pleasing unto the Lord. So He will help now. He will help us, the Holy Spirit will, in our thoughts. He'll block them from becoming destructible work. He will caution us and even in the middle of our talking, you know, when we're speaking to someone, have you ever been speaking to someone and you're about ready to say something and all of a sudden you feel like, should I say that or not say that or how should I say it? When that happens, I believe if you're a follower of Jesus Christ that you are basically being touched by the Holy Spirit to help you speak the right things at

2:14 the right time to the right person. So that's something that we want to talk about today. When Jesus left his disciples, he promised them that he would send the Comforter, the Paraclete, the Advocate, and the Counselor. We read about that in John chapter 14 and verse 16. So let me read that to you now. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate. This is Jesus speaking, who will never leave you. And verse 17, he is the Holy Spirit who leads into all truth. Now, look what Jesus is saying to him. He's telling them, I've got to... plan for you. I've got something that's going to help you and guide you in each and every day of your life and every thought that you have and every action that you take. He says in John 14 -16, it's recorded, I will ask the Father. So he goes to his Father and he asks the Father to send the Holy Spirit and he'll be another advocate, which means I've been your advocate, I've been on your side and you've had my back and I've had your back. And he says that, he says, but he'll be another advocate who will never leave you. He's saying that he's always going to be there. You know, it's so important that as followers of Jesus Christ that we understand that we have power of the Holy Spirit in us each and every day and every single moment. And I know it's hard to act in the Spirit all the time and respond to the Spirit all the time, but we need to train ourselves and teach ourselves to surrender to Him, to His leading. And so therefore we'll say the right things at the right time to the right people and we'll be led by the Spirit of God to know exactly how to deal with every situation that we face in life. And he's telling

3:45 us that he'll never leave us and that he is the Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth. So if we're looking for truth, then just just call upon the person of the Holy Spirit who lives and dwells in each power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now Jesus went on to say things that are so powerful. He said that the Holy Spirit will live in them and that's something that we've got to understand. I know most of us don't have any problem relating to that and understand that, but there's some people that we, and I've been to the point at times when I don't always surrender to the Holy Spirit at the right time. And usually when I make that mistake, I find out very quickly and that's the Holy Spirit telling me, you didn't listen to me, you didn't hear what I had to say, you didn't come to me. And so that is the crucial part of this teaching is having Holy Spirit -led thoughts so that we'll also have Holy Spirit -led words that we speak. And the Bible says, let the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be acceptable to you. Well, that's just what we're talking about here and what we want to focus on today in this podcast today. Let me ask you a question. As a follower of Jesus Christ, how often do we think of what Jesus said?

4:48 The words that he just spoke, that he's going to send us an advocate who won't leave us and that he'll lead us into all truth. How often do we rely upon that? The Holy Spirit lives in us and he does comfort us. At least that's his desire is to comfort us. We've got to yield to him, submit to him, open up ourselves to receive his comfort. He wants to counsel us. He is for us and not against us. If you're feeling down, you know, if you're frustrated as a follower of Jesus Christ, you get frustrated, we all go through those times of frustration, maybe a little bit of irritation will come into our life. As soon as we start feeling that, we've got to remember that the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, He's on our side. He's for us. And you say, well, does He correct me sometimes? Absolutely. That's what His job is to instruct us and help us and even give us discipline on the things that we say and the actions that we take. So we've got to stop and say to ourselves, Even though I'm going through this, I've got the greatest power that's ever walked on the face of this earth, living and dwelling inside of me, ready to help, willing to help, able to help, and we've got to submit to Him, surrender to Him, and that's something that is difficult, but then the more you do it, the easier it gets. The more we rely on the Holy Spirit, the easier it is to continue to rely on Him and seek His face and seek His guidance and seek His direction. Now I want to pray for you right now. This is a good time to do that.

6:08 I believe in now is a time as we're just getting into this podcast to talk about how we can receive what the Holy Spirit wants us to have. Heavenly Father, help us to never take for granted or ignore power that lives in us. Help us, Lord, to surrender to you, to submit to you. Help us to understand that the power of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God the Father. Jesus sent him. to be our advocate, to be the one who is there on our side, who's there to counsel us and to comfort us and guide our thoughts. The very thoughts that we have as they come into our mind, he's ready to sort them out. He's kind of like our editor. You know, I'm an author and I've written a number of books and with every book that I write, I have to hire an editor. I need an editor.

6:51 I need someone who will come in, take a look at what I've said and evaluate it and make sure that it flows right, that the grammar is right, that the punctuation is proper, that I've said things, maybe I didn't use one word too often, or maybe I didn't explain a word clear enough, or something like that. Just the editing part of my book, because I write a book that has some 35 or 40 thousand words in it. I'm going to make mistakes. I'm going to use a is when I shouldn't be saying isn't and those types of things. So an editor comes in to correct that and I have to hire them to do that. And I bring that example up because as Christians, the followers of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is our editor. He's the one inside of us saying, not now, don't say that now or say it this way or find another opportunity to say it. When you hear that voice, you hear that, yield to it. Yield to that power, that presence because the Holy Spirit knows what's best for us. Have you ever said something and said then after later said oh crumb I wish I hadn't said that man I wish I hadn't said it that way or I wish I hadn't said at this time you know we've all done that we all have and so we want to allow the Holy Spirit to yield to the Holy Spirit to edit our conversations to edit what we write down the email that we send or the letter that we write or the card that we write edited if we're having problems with people in our family maybe there's challenges going on we have a wayward child a son or a daughter or grandchild or a husband a wife or not getting together and we write a little note we shouldn't just write that note with our own words our own thoughts we need to yield to the Holy Spirit and ask the Holy Spirit to guide the words that we write so that we'll say the right things many

8:22 times when I see people having major challenges with their children they've got prodigal kids or the kids have just turned against them for one reason or another I tell them don't write them these long letters because they'll just get frustrated with them just send them a little postcard and on the postcard says God loves you and I love you and that's about all you need to say and they'll get that card and they'll look at it and think, wow, they're thinking of me. Now, they might still be upset with you, but they'll look at that card and they'll think, that's nice that they sent that. They may not tell you that, they may not say that, but they saw those words and they didn't see a bunch of explanations about why your conversations have gone bad or why you've had the disagreements that you've had. They're not going to go there because all they'll simply have is just a comment from you that says, God loves you and I love you. And when you do that, you take away the outside influence of things that you maybe shouldn't have said and you allow the Holy Spirit to operate in love through you to express love to others.

9:14 Because the Bible says that love never fails. There's a lot of talk about love in the Bible. There's a lot of talk about the gifts of the Spirit in the Bible, the fruit of the Spirit, and all these things. But bottom line, it always ends with it's all about love. Because love is the greatest thing we can show. So the Holy Spirit is the one who can bring that love so that we'll have the right loving words to say rather than try and explain ourselves about how we want these, see things corrected or changed. or modified. So I hope that's connecting with you because I recently, I think the reason I brought that up is because recently I've had a lot of people I've been talking to that are having conflict with their kids and the kids will, they'll send their kid a letter and then the kid will just tear it up and send it back and just say, I didn't read this trash, this garbage. And it's just terrible. They have terrible experiences. I had a couple once where the married couple were having problems with their mother, this gal's mother.

10:03 They just had a terrible time with her and they were out of state. And so this young couple would send pictures pictures of their children to their mother and their mother would get the pictures and she'd tear them all up, the baby pictures, tear them up, put them back in an envelope and send them back and say, I don't want to see these disgusting pictures. And it was just terrible. And they said, what do we do? How do we get a hold of her? And I said, take a postcard and just write on there that God loves you and I love you. And don't put anything else on there. Don't say, I'm sorry about this or I'm sorry about that and I wish you would have understood this or wish you would have understood that. No, no, no, no. Don't do that. Just Jesus loves you and I love you. send it to them and they'll get that card and they'll say and I said and they might even tear it up and send it back to you but that's okay that's okay because they saw the words that you spoke and they saw the words love and it will break down barriers and I've had situations quite a few of them over the years where people have said that little process has helped mend relationships with people family members or friends you know that that they had where they were having all kinds of struggles and they were trying to write letters back and forth bottom line If we show love, that prevails. They may still be angry, they may still be upset, but they can never get away from the fact that you've said that. And I believe those words are being led by the Holy Spirit. So let me just leave that with you. And I hadn't planned to talk about that, but I think there's some people out there that may have needed to hear those words because you're having a struggling relationship with some people and you need to know how to write them and how to notify them.

11:25 And I think that's something that you should at least try. See, the Holy Spirit will help us if we need physical or emotional healing. Whenever we need anything, all we must do is press into the power inside of us. Press in until we start to live abundantly. Press in until we believe that we are an overcomer. Press in until we live without anxiety, fear, doubt, and worry. Press into the Holy Spirit to ask Him to help guide our thoughts and the words that we speak, and He will send healing. He will send wisdom. He will send instructions, direction. He may discipline us, but that's okay because when He disciplines us, we're going to be blessed by it, and we're going to be a blessing to other people. So I pray that we need to understand that the key to controlling what we say and what gets into our mind is to press into the Holy Spirit. We need to call upon the Holy Spirit to defeat our evil thoughts, our negative thoughts, our hateful words. Call on the Holy Spirit with confidence in the scriptures to help us. Here's an example of a scripture that will help us in those times of need. In 1 John chapter 4 and verse 4 in the New Living Translation says this, but you belong to God, my dear children, you have already won a victory over those people.

12:43 That means false prophets he was talking about. because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the Spirit who lives in the world. Now, I have heard that statement all of my Christian life. Pastors preach it, evangelists come through, Bible studies and all this, and that scripture is used a lot, and it's wonderful. And that is because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the Spirit who lives in the world. And it's important that we understand that, but it's another thing to understand, it's another thing to apply it, which simply means go to the Holy Spirit for help. Don't go to the world for help. A lot of people who struggle with problems and challenges might go to a counselor who's not a Christian. I don't think that's wise. I honestly don't. I don't think it's smart to go to someone for counsel and help if they're not a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Or they go to a church maybe that doesn't really preach out of the Bible.

13:29 They use other things and other tools and stuff. I would not attend a church like that. I would stay away from it because I want to be taught the Word of God. Because I want to live that scripture that says, because the spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. We need to stay out of the world for any guidance or direction or wisdom and be led by the Spirit of God. Because what that's telling is that no matter what we're going through, God's greater. No matter what our challenges are, God's greater. Kind of reminds me, and I've used this before, and forgive me for using it again, but it kind of reminds me of when I was diagnosed with incurable cancer. I went to the doctor and he says, well, you've got a cancer that's incurable. You have multimyloma, bone marrow cancer. There's no cure. for it and unless this medication takes place unless things really happen unless we can do something to help you we doubt that you have even six months to live now when he said that you know it's so easy for my mind to jump in there and just make some statement you know or some people are gonna react differently some would cry some would weep some would get angry God whatever it might be the bottom line of it is the Holy Spirit instantly just hit me he just hit me and as soon as the doctor said that you probably may only have up to six months to live.

14:38 As soon as he said that word live, I said, so let me get this straight. You are trying to scare me with heaven. Now that was not me. That was the Holy Spirit inside of me, because the scripture became alive in me. The spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit in the world. The world was saying, you're going to die. There's no cure. It's over. You might as well just hang it up. But the Spirit of God said, tell him that the success of life is heaven and tell him that there's nothing that can happen to me here on earth that will take away the ultimate joy, the ultimate life of eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. And I was even shocked at myself when that came out and that was, you're going to try and scare me with heaven. And the doctor looked at me and he said, wow, I've never heard that before. I've had people cry. I've had people get upset. He said all kinds of things. He said, but Never have I had such a quick response that said that. He said, you must really believe that.

15:26 And I looked at the doctor and I said, you know, you watch this. God's gonna be glorified in this. And what the devil intended for evil, God's gonna turn out for good. And when I shared with him that my faith was not, I'm happy that he's there and I'm happy he has medication and I'll take the medication and I'll believe in prayer. I can tell you, at the end of the rainbow, there's heaven for those of us. And that's what God promises is, no matter what we go through here on earth. Bottom line, if we follow Jesus Christ and serve Him, then when we pass on from this life to the next, we're going to spend eternity with Jesus Christ and also with our saved unloved ones that we knew for years, we'll be reunited with them. So that's the type of response the Holy Spirit gives us. It wasn't me saying that, it was the Holy Spirit inside of me that gave me that instant response to encourage that And the doctor looked at me and said, wow, that's just amazing to hear that. And I said, yeah, before this is over, you will believe this, and you'll believe there's going to be a miracle. And thank the Lord, within eight months, instead of me being gone, my healing took place. They still were treating me constantly, and they still said there's no cure for it. And they still said, you have to take all this medication.

16:32 I took medication for seven and a half years of chemo. And think about that. And God was going to be glorified in it, though. And God healed me and restored me. God for that. Give him the praise in Jesus name. Okay, let's move on. The Holy Spirit can help the battle over our mind and thoughts and actions. The Holy Spirit helps us win the battle against Satan. We will be able to keep Satan from knowing our thoughts if we yield to the Holy Spirit. Now, that's an interesting thought. That just popped in my mind. I thought, Lord, maybe I should make a comment about what that means. We will be able to keep Satan from knowing our thoughts if we yield to the Holy Spirit. You see, I don't believe that Satan knows our thoughts. I know Satan comes to try to change our thoughts and wants to direct our thoughts.

17:17 He knows what we're saying and what we're confessing and what we're not confessing, but the actual thoughts in our mind, I believe, is something that is withheld from the devil himself because of the power of the Holy Spirit who lives and dwells inside of us. So when I made the statement, we will be able to keep Satan from knowing our thoughts if we yield to the Holy Spirit, that means if we're filled with the Holy Spirit, there won't be any room for any satanic attack upon us. Satan only knows what we speak out. Satan will suggest to us the thoughts that he wants us to accept. He wants to influence our thoughts. Satan tempts us to do what we don't want to do. The Apostle Paul talked about that. Remember in the Bible, the Apostle Paul said, you know, there's times that I do things that I know I shouldn't be doing, even while I'm doing them, I still do them, even though I know it's wrong that I shouldn't be doing them. And I know I said that kind of fast, but that's what he's doing. We've all done that. We've all said that.

18:11 We've all said things and while we were speaking it, we knew we were being checked that, you know, we probably shouldn't go there and probably shouldn't say that and maybe this isn't a good area to go into. When we're being checked like that, that's the Holy Spirit trying to influence. The devil wants to influence us by getting angry and becoming mean and have vengeance on people and try to get even with people and some people start swearing at other people and that's what the devil wants to do. But the Holy Spirit wants to influence us so that we will be influencers of others, that our words will be led by the Holy Spirit and will have great power. I mean, totally great power. The Apostle Paul covers this particular topic in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 and verse 13 in the New Living Translation.

18:57 Listen to this, the temptation in your life are no different from what others experience. Let me read that again, the temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. See, other people are going through the same thing and God is faithful. That's crucial. Remember, as you're going through stuff, remember God is always faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure. That way out is to yield to the Holy Spirit and then the Holy Spirit then will give us the way out of what we're going through, that challenge that we face, that difficult we face. These temptations can be temptations to get frustrated and angry at people or to feel defeated and destroyed at work or maybe through a physical problem or it might be. Those are temptations that come at us and they will come at us. But the Word of God tells us that the Holy Spirit will not allow the temptation to be more than we can stand.

19:54 And it says when you're tempted, He will show you a way out so you can endure that situation. And I just think that's just so powerful because we all know there's a battle over our mind. We all know that we face it each and every day. As soon as I get up in the morning, I know the devil wants to start correcting my thoughts and start maybe feel like, oh, that's right. I got that meeting with such and such. I'm not particularly looking forward to that. You don't want to receive that. Just rebuke that and move on. Or you get up and think, well, I just ran out of coffee. So I can't get my coffee first thing. And then that starts messing up our minds. And it starts making us feel like, well, it's going to be a bad day. See, from then, it leads into getting out in traffic getting frustrated because the car traffic is bad and so then all of a sudden you get irritated someone you honk your horn at somebody when you're thinking you know I probably shouldn't have done that but you did anyways and that can just carry out through the whole day and just have a miserable time but we need to stop at the beginning of the day and say I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me I'm not gonna worry about anything or be anxious about anything I'm gonna bring everything to the Lord and then he'll give me the peace that pass us all understanding and tell you that's the kind of thoughts the Holy Spirit wants us to have now I believe that all All this tells us that the Holy Spirit can capture our thoughts so they will be focused on Him and He will help us. So Lord, help us, I should say, to receive this. When we yield to the Holy Spirit, God will reign in our heart and mind. Every word we speak can be Holy Spirit led. I believe that. And every thought is ruled by God and can be ruled by God.

21:23 God can and will reveal the deep things that we need for us. Listen to what the apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians chapter 10 and verse 5. Listen to this. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their religious thoughts and... teach them to obey Christ. That's how we have to handle these challenges that we face in the battle over our mind. The scriptures can apply to us and to other people and they do. They apply to everyone that we know. With the Holy Spirit, every word we speak will be held captive. Every thought is ruled by God. That's something that we need to read over and over again and place it into our heart and make a foundation of how we're going to control the thoughts that we have in our life.

22:07 Now I believe it's possible that through the whole Spirit, our soul can live as Christ did. With the Holy Spirit, trials lead. to great victories. And the challenges that we will or currently face will bring greater faith to each and every one of us. Well, I hope that this has been a blessing. I've thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. 25:50 The Holy Spirit transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. These are some more areas and topics. These are areas that I'm studying and getting working on to do podcasts on. Here's another one we're going to talk about. The anointing of the Holy Spirit brings a fresh, new, and safe direction from God. The Holy Spirit brings a flow of divine healings and leadings. The Holy Spirit fills our heart and mind so we will live in peace. We're going to talk about how the Holy Spirit brings a higher level of life as followers of Jesus Christ. and that he also brings God's way. God's will and his peace to believers, and that we can live filled with the Spirit to do greater works. You know, the same anointing that we're talking about today was the anointing that the Apostle Paul had when he received that incredible touch from God and when he gave his life to Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. And here was a man who hated Christians. He oversaw the killing of Christians. He was there when Stephen was stoned to death, and he approved of all that.

26:47 And here he was later on, walking down the road in the power of God. hit him. That was the Holy Spirit hit him and convicted him of his need to surrender to Christ and he did and what an amazing man of God he became. So I hope that you'll stay with me in this series on the Holy Spirit. We have so much to talk about and that's just some of the topics that the Lord's put up on my heart. So like I said, this could go on for quite a while and I'm really excited about it because I've never had a particular topic that seems that there's just endless the amount of things that we can discuss and where we can go from here. If you prayed that prayer and you've never prayed it before, find a good church, get into the Word of God, get a Bible, read the books of John, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, read the book of Romans. These are great, great writings that will just change your life. And now that you become a follower of Christ, Get that Bible. Find one that's a good translation you'd be comfortable with. I like the new Living Translation. It works best for me. So I encourage you then to do that. But most importantly, get around Christian people.
