DID MARY OR JESUS CRUSH THE SERPENT’S HEAD? (305)
One Catholic version of the Bible translates Genesis 3:15 with a major spin. The Lord
God prophesies to the serpent, “ “ I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and
thy seed and her seed: SHE SHALL CRUSH THY HEAD.” Consequently, some Catholic
theologians teach the serpent-crushing woman is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Protestant
Bible versions instead render this passage, “HE WILL BRUISE YOUR HEAD”—speaking of
JESUS. Which is right?
