In Catholicism, an ordained priest must mediate at baptism, confession, communion, assisting the bishop at confirmation, and finally, at extreme unction (the final rites)—in order for these things to be done properly. Did Jesus institute this office and these requirements, or did a representative priesthood phase out with the changing of the covenant?
