The Brown Scapular and Mary's Promise of Escaping Hell! (331)
On July 16, 1251, a Catholic priest named Simon Stock claimed to have a vision of Mary. At the time, he was the sixth Superior General of the Carmelite Order (a group of friars based in Cambridge, England). Supposedly, Mary presented a brown scapular to Simon (a type of religious garment) promising that whoever died wearing it would escape the fires of hell. Is there any validity to such a fantastical story?
