Who Is the “Woman Clothed with the Sun”? (333)
In Revelation 12, John sees a “great wonder in heaven”—a “woman clothed with the sun…and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.” The Catholic interpretation assigns this image to Mary, the mother of Jesus, to help prove their claim that she is now the Queen of heaven. Is this true? Let’s subject this highly symbolic chapter to proper exegesis and see if it fits the Catholic narrative.
