Introduction

Stephen Strang: Over the years, Charisma magazine has covered the Ministry of Rodney Howard Brown. So, I've known Rodney for many years and today consider him a close friend. I've also known his family and his ministry is big as growing. He's impacting many parts of America and many parts of the world. But his life is not without tragedy. Recently, I was interviewing him for an In Depth with Stephen Strang podcast and he told me the story about his daughter, Kelly, who died at age 18, on Christmas Day. The podcast was a little bit long and the story was so compelling that I decided to run it as a separate podcast. So, without further ado, here is my asking Rodney Howard-Browne to tell me the story about his daughter, Kelly. I hope that it touches your heart like it did mine.

We could talk probably for hours and you've had a wonderful blessed life. Your ministry is very successful. You're very well known, but you've also had your share of tragedy. I want to ask you about your daughter, who died a couple of years ago on Christmas Day, if I remember correctly, at a very tender age. What happened and what have you learned from that?

Rodney Howard-Browne: Kelly was 18 when she died. She passed her 18th birthday. Kelly was born with a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis. She nearly died at 11 months and nearly died at three years old. We moved to America when she was three years old. She, at that time had moderate lung damage. A lot of people said while you believe in healing, how come your daughter wasn't healed? And I said look, here's the thing that you have to understand. Anybody who's anybody anywhere in the world that had a healing ministry in the 1980s and 1990s and the early 2000s, prayed for Kelly. If you named from the Happy Hunters to any healing ministry, internationally, they laid hands on Kelly. Many people prayed many times. It was not like a healing from a sickness. There needed to be a creative miracle take place as a genetic thing. So, she was born with it and I'm not saying the Lord couldn't. God did heal her many times. But we carried her to her 18th birthday. And when she turned 18, we couldn't carry her anymore. I don't know how to explain it to people. I tell them look, you can only carry your kid so far. It was like Kelly and the Lord had something else going on that I could not get involved in. You have to understand when you are restricted in your breathing and you can't breathe, the joy of even living in the end goes away.

We never told her she was going to die. She had great plans. There's another whole story I can tell you out of that, that she was so fulfilled that has to do with the millennial reign of Christ, that she actually wrote down in a vision that we only got two months after she died, which is when I read it. I said, Lord, she's not available to do this. And He said, oh, you look at things as small. Don't you understand what's still to come? Then I realized how limited we were in the whole thing. When I held her in my arms on Christmas Day, I had to make a decision; either the devil walked in here today and stole my daughter or today I'm going to take and put it on the altar. I prayed on Christmas Day I said, Lord, today, I give you my best gift. If I live another 50 years, I cannot equal or match this gift. I lay her on the altar today, but I'll make a vow of 100 million souls that the devil will pay and a billion dollars into world missions. So, that's what led me down the course of the last 16 years. There is stuff that is only happening now that we felt back then. But it's all to do with this. So, Kelly's life impacted me in a way that, even if I could do it all over again, I would do it even knowing the outcome all over again. People say, well, how can you not blame God? I said, as for God, His way is perfect.

And here's the thing the Lord said to me when we were going through this. He said to me, do you trust me with your life? I said, Lord, I trust you with my life. He said, no, do you trust me with your life? I said, Lord, I trust you. And then he said, the third time, son, do you trust me with your life? I said, Lord, I trust You. That was it. He didn't want me to even think about anything, that I was to leave it in his hands and not even concern myself about one thing, that I was to trust Him. So, I’ve got six grandkids now, four granddaughters. Our middle granddaughter just turned 10 years as is the copy image of Kelly, in every way. My daughter and I looked at each other and we’d raise our eyebrows shake our head. It's like, are you kidding me? It’s like a replay. But the Lord is graced us. I have a compassion for people that have sick family members. We started the healing school in Tampa here for incurable diseases that runs for two weeks at a time. People that are dying of every kind of disease known to man. We have a great compassion for people that battle incurable diseases. But the devil's paying, the harvest of souls is coming in and I wouldn't take it back. I told Kelly just before she died, we were talking to each other … this is probably an hour before she went on. I said, you came from heaven to touch my life. I said, I want to thank you, sweetie, that God sent you to my life. I know it sounds like a tragedy, but it actually isn't this a great victory and the whole story for both my wife and myself and our whole family. God is good in so many ways.

Stephen Strang: I know you were very moved by what you heard. And I just so admire Rodney and his family for the way that they handled this, for the way that they have taken this tragedy and made good of it. I've had the opportunity to interview Rodney for my In Depth with Stephen Strang, in which he talks about his background in South Africa and about his family and about meeting his wonderful wife and about the early days of the revival. Frankly, his life is so interesting and so busy, though I could have interviewed him for a long time. You will want to go back on our Charisma Podcast Network, and cpnshows.com, and find it if you missed it. I also recorded several other podcasts that I’ve run as a Strang Report on his trip to Europe in just the last couple of months where he visited 43 cities. It's an amazing story of God moving in Europe. In a way that you're not going to hear very widely. There are very few media who are even aware of this or who cover it.
