Unlocking the Power of the Holy Spirit The Purpose and Power of Praying in Tongues Part 1

Thank you. How is everyone? You may be seated. Just testing the mic to make sure we're on. Praise God. Well, we had a beautiful service yesterday with the ladies.

0:42 I think this pulp is bigger than me. What do you think? But we filled up as a church, because I feel like I'm family here now, we filled up the whole entire right side, my right side, of women who are just on fire for God and wanted to hear from God. And we really, I just was telling Pastor, we really had a beautiful service. I mean, I was just personally blown away. Like you have to understand, those of you that may not understand it, it's not by might. It's not by human gifting.

1:23 It's by the Holy Spirit. And I said a lot of things yesterday that I personally didn't know. And it came up out of my own heart. And that's the Holy Spirit, giving us wisdom, revelation, unction, and insight into the message that we shared yesterday. Now we did record it, and I'm gonna be putting it up on our YouTube channel, eventually, hopefully soon. So it was just a beautiful service. I'm glad to see that there's young people in here today, and I believe that the Spirit of God is going to encounter the young people. The thing I was thinking about is that there's no junior Holy Spirit.

2:10 God said, I'm gonna pour out my Spirit on your sons and your daughters. So I believe the young people in here that are going to have an encounter, and those, they may be in children's church at the end of the service, if they wanna come up, they can come up as well. But before we get into the word, I'm gonna go ahead and reintroduce this book. We sold a lot of them yesterday, which was the final subject matter of what I shared yesterday. And I'm encountering God through prayer. I take the reader from, how do you develop the habit of prayer? How do I develop a devotional life? And I take the reader from, begin where you are, which is 15 minutes, and then God will take you all the way through.

2:52 I talk about contemplative prayer, all kinds of prayer. I talk about the heart of the Father, who he is, because in order for us to really understand how we can have a beautiful prayer life, we have to understand who our Father is. I wanna give this to this young girl right here. Little sweetheart. And then I have Focus, Eliminating Distractions for Enhanced Spiritual Vision. This is one of my favorite subjects. As a matter of fact, I dedicate all my books to the young people, but my kids, that is. But this time I said I dedicate this book to the apostolic leaders, prophets, and teachers in my life. Thank you for pouring into me and my ministry through your teaching, training, mentoring, and prophetic words.

3:36 You've passed the baton onto me, and it is my hope to pass the baton onto the next generation of leaders. So this is really a book for all of us. What is distracting us? What is keeping us from running successfully the race that is set before us? So I just wanna give this book to you. This is one of my favorite things that God taught me in a matter of two years. So we'll go ahead and get into the word. I'm going to, yes, the title did come up. I'm gonna be talking to you about the power and the purpose of praying in tongues. Interestingly enough, he gave me an extra scripture to share that's not in my notes, but it goes along with what pastor said, which I love, the Holy Spirit.

4:26 And it also goes along with the message that I'm gonna be sharing today. But he gave me this scripture from 2 Timothy for you. It says here in 2 Timothy 1, 6, I remind you to stir up. Everyone say remind. Remind. I remind you to stir up the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands. Now we're gonna be talking about the purpose and the power of praying in tongues. And if you study the book of Acts, we find that at times the Holy Spirit was, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was given at times through the laying on of hands.

5:13 Are you listening? So he said, I want you to stir up the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands. And then the verse seven, I kept hearing this morning, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. So you don't have a spirit of fear. And it's fear is prevalent in the earth today. We're not gonna talk about that today, but that's not what God has given you. He said, you've also have a spirit of love. How many know Romans 5, 5 says the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. And we can actually have the ability to love the unlovely and even our enemies who are torturing us and continue to torture us.

5:59 We have the ability to love them. How many of you know that's true? Because we have a spirit of love. We are capable of doing it, even though at times we don't feel like it. But it's not by feelings, it's by being obedient to what's on the inside of us, which is Christ in us, the hope of glory. But the emphasis here, I feel that the spirit of God is saying is, you have a spirit of power. And when I looked that up in Google or AI, whatever, it's basically the same. That spirit of power is the same word found in Acts 1-8, where God said, you shall receive power, dunamis, when the Holy Ghost has come upon you.

6:40 And I looked it up and it says, the Greek word for power is also dunamis. That verse states that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Masha keitei. I bind the spirit of fear in the name of Jesus off of anyone in here that is battling with that, especially in the night seasons. I'm not gonna get into it, but I guess I am, because it's rising up. I don't know why, because I do know this, the devil will always attack you where your gift is, number one. And number two, he's trying to stop the body of Christ from advancing.

7:21 And I'm a leader, and you know how it is. You know, it's like sometimes it's just, you know, God says, we'll fight a good warfare. Yeah, all right, well, when does it end? So that's why you gotta be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, and know that God hasn't given you a spirit of fear, but of love and a power and a sound mind. So there's this release of a lot of fear in the earth today. And it goes along with where the scripture says, men's hearts will fail for fear. So we've got to resist the devil. And the Bible says he'll flee from us. So I don't really know why, but about seven months ago, I woke up in the middle of the night, and I can't believe I'm telling you this, but I am gonna obey God.

8:10 I woke up in the middle of the night, and the only way Marsha explained what the entity looked like, but it looked like a gigantic, what did you say that entity was from Star Wars? Jabba the Hutt was in my room. And that thing filled my whole entire room. Now let me tell you, there's no big devils, little devils, devil is the devil. He just masquerades and he masks himself, and he tries to be this fierce entity, but at the end of the day, greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world, and don't you ever forget it.

8:54 So I woke up and I'm like, I'm not the kind of person that likes to wake up in the middle of the night, because I like to sleep. And if I wake up in the middle of the night, then I got to really focus on getting back to sleep. How many of you know what I'm talking about? So I'm like, really? I just was like annoyed that I was awakened, and how did you see it? I don't know how to explain how I saw it. I don't know if I saw it in here. I think I saw it in here. This is where the spirit of seeing and knowing is. You have eyes, and that's the eyes of your spirit. The time Jesus walked into my bedroom, I didn't see it with these eyes. I heard him walking in, and I sensed his aura and his presence, and when he spoke to me, he spoke to me in here.

9:40 He never opened his mouth. But here we got Jabba the Hutt, demon, whatever you want to call it, in my bedroom, and he kept breathing out different things, different temptations. You're afraid of this, and you're afraid of that. And it would come into my mind, and because those thoughts come at your mind, and it came to my mind, and I'm like, no, I'm not. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. And I was getting annoyed because it woke me up. So then I just said, well, in the name of Jesus, I just want to go back to sleep.

10:26 But that thing wouldn't quit. See, the enemy's not gonna quit unless he knows that you know that you know who you are, and you know your authority, and it's actually very simple. These signs will follow them that believe they'll cast out demons, greater is he that's in you. So then after a while, all these interesting and weird threatenings and thoughts were coming at my mind, and then one of the strangest thoughts was you are afraid to drive. You kidding me? I've actually had somebody tell me one time, you drive like a man. I'm like, is that good or bad? You know, I'm in New Jersey.

11:07 I'm just making it happen. I'm driving, and I go everywhere, and I have to go everywhere. I mean, New York City, I've kind of like laid that one down. So if I'm going into the city, I'm getting help to get into the city. I'm not driving in the city anymore. I look back on the young days when we were young, and we used to drive into the city and parallel park. I'm not doing that anymore. But when that came at my mind, it was so real and so tempting, and there was a fear that came with it, and there was other things that that thing said to me. So finally I just sat up, and I said, I bind you, Satan, in the name of Jesus, and I plead the blood of Jesus over my mind, my body, my heart, and I command you to get out of my room, get out of my house, and I spoke the word that our sister said, and no weapon formed against me will prosper, and that thing left my room.

12:10 But it was a temptation. But what would have happened if I had accepted those thoughts? You see what I'm saying? You've got to say what God says about you. God hasn't given you a spirit of fear, but of love, and the spirit just said, because that fear is crippling. What if we accepted all the fears that came into our minds? We'd be crippled, right? That's why you've got to stand against it. Like Pastor said, shut the door on the devil. I think that was a prophetic sign, to shut the door on the devil. This is not my message, but I think it's for you anyway.

12:50 Here, dunamis signifies the strength and ability that comes from God, enabling believers to stand firm, like Pastor said, in their faith, and fulfill their calling without fear. It emphasizes the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit that equips Christians to face challenges and live boldly for their faith. So God hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and that brings us into our message about the purpose and power of praying in tongues. And I have to be honest with you, I travel a lot, I've been to a lot of places, I think we've neglected this gift.

13:34 And I think it's because of, my people perish because of a lack of knowledge. I think because people don't understand the power and the purpose of praying in tongues, and that's why the Holy Ghost said, I wanna remind you to stir it up. Well, why should I stir it up? What is the reason for me to stir it up? We're gonna get into this. But before we do, let me just say this, you can use praying in tongues, praying in the Holy Ghost for the prayer of worship. When was the last time we had a whole congregation singing in tongues? Remember the days when you and I were coming up in the faith and you'd have the whole congregation singing and making melody, it was like a symphony.

14:21 It was like this glorious orchestration of singing in tongues and everybody rhymed and it was beautiful and you could feel the presence of God. We need to stir that up. So you can use praying in, the power and purpose of praying in tongues through worship, you could use it at intercession. Listen, I know that speaking the word of God works, the word of God works, praying the word of God works, but we're gonna get into it. What about tongues in intercession? I loved the prayer meetings with Bobby Jean-Marc where we would all be praying in tongues for an hour.

15:02 Nobody said anything in English. Nowadays, I'm not being negative, but we're working on it. Nowadays you get people in a prayer meeting and they pray in tongues for five minutes, then they fizzle out, why? They don't understand the purpose and power of praying in tongues. What about this, what else can we use tongues for? We can use tongues when we don't know what the heck is going on in our lives, in our callings, in our destinies, we're stuck, we don't know why we're stuck, something's not right, we're bored, we know there's something more, but we don't know how to pray. I recently went to Florida a couple weeks ago to spend three days with God, I'm talking like intense time.

15:49 And I, I'll be honest, I didn't feel a thing for two and a half days, but I just walked the floors, I said, Lord, not my will, your will be done in my life, go before me, prepare the way, make the crooked way straight and the rough places plain, and I prayed in tongues. How long did you pray in tongues? Not telling you this to brag, so just know this, I'm just giving you an example. I prayed in tongues one hour, two hours, I had the time to do it, three hours, four hours, five hours, stopped, worshiped for a while, put some teaching on, because you need the Holy Ghost and the Word, all tongues, right?

16:29 And I just spent time in the presence of God. And it's so interesting because I went to Florida to seek God for the will of God and what's my purpose. Can you believe that? I'm asking God for my purpose, because something on the inside, I don't know how to explain it, I'm used to living out of purpose and destiny and fire. And I wasn't sensing that fire, I didn't like that, because I like that. How many of you know what I'm talking about? You just got a fire and a vision and you just, and the Lord said to me when I was in Florida, he says, when you get back to New Jersey, he goes, I'm gonna meet you there. Well, I don't know why. You know, that's why pastors said we have to walk by faith and not by fight, not by sex.

17:14 So I got one morning, I put on my devotional time, put on this prayer and this scripture reading from Psalm 91, put my headphones in, shut everything out, and all of a sudden the Holy had an encounter with the Holy Ghost. How did you know an encounter with the Holy Ghost changes everything? And I'm under that pavilion, I started putting worship songs and here came the tears. See, I don't know about you, but if I don't cry in the presence of God for a long period of time, see, I know it's not emotional, but there's something about breaking up the foul ground. Foul ground is ground that was so moist and so fruitful, but it becomes hardened because of elements and things that go on in the atmosphere.

18:04 And so I just felt myself having this encounter going into the presence of God and just spent time with him that morning and what rose up in the inside of me, the Lord said to me, your purpose hasn't changed. You know, we can go just as much as by what he doesn't say, as much as by what he does say. And he said, your purpose hasn't changed. He said, I've called you to teach the world how to pray. Well, how did you do that? How did you get that unction? How did you get that knowledge? I just prayed in tongues, prayed in the Holy Ghost, but you know, where you get into it, when you pray in the Holy Ghost, you're praying according to the will of God for your life.

18:54 So we need to stir it up. You could pray, use tongues when, like we said, praying the prayer of dedication and consecration, right? Again, when you don't know what to pray for. So let's get into our message-ish notes 101, amen? Jesus spoke often about the Holy Spirit and his coming. In the New Testament, he was mentioned, he, everyone say he. He. He was mentioned 264 times.

19:35 And six, well, is my microphone okay? As a matter of fact, Acts 1-8, the last words Jesus spoke before he was taken up and a cloud received him out of their sight, his last words were this, don't go anywhere, don't do anything, don't do one thing until you be with endued with power from on high, because you are going to receive power, dunamis, the same word in 2 Timothy, when the Holy Ghost has come upon you and I'm gonna cause you to be witnesses for me.

20:17 Now we know the story, many people were in the upper room. How many were in the upper room, pastor? What was it, 400? 400, and how many were left? 120 out of 400 were in the upper room, because the rest of them fizzled out. How many of you know that I would be one of them that would be in that upper room? How many of you would be one of the ones that would be in that upper room? Because you wouldn't wanna miss that encounter, you wouldn't wanna miss that move of God. So what happened? When the promise is finally fulfilled, right? After all the promises made and all the things Jesus said about the Holy Spirit, when the Holy Ghost came and fell, what was the very first manifestation besides the cloven tongues of fire appearing on their heads?

21:12 And the Bible says, and they all were filled with the Holy Ghost as the Spirit gave them utterance and they all began to what? Speak with other tongues. So the outward manifestation of this baptism of the Holy Spirit and the person of the Holy Spirit coming to the earth, listen, was a release of a heavenly language called tongues. We need to stir it up. Amen? Well, some people will say, well, it's not my gift. Can I just briefly explain that? How many of you ever heard it's not my gift? I'm not, it's not my gift.

21:53 Well, people mix up the nine gifts of the Spirit, which is spoken of in 1 Corinthians, with tongues for the believer that is given to each and every one of us as believers. The nine gifts of the Spirit, you know what they are, right? Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, okay, tongues, interpretation of tongues, gift of faith, working in miracles, gifts of healing. Those are the nine gifts of the Spirit, the manifestations of the Holy Spirit that manifest in public assembly or they can manifest in your private prayer life or they can manifest in the grocery store.

22:36 It's the Holy Spirit empowering you for service. So when people say, pastor, it's not my gift and I know you've heard it. Well, this is talking about tongues and interpretation of tongues for public assembly. We had it happen yesterday, didn't we? Tongues came out and the interpretation of the tongues, you know, was a prophecy for us as women, right? So when we talk about tongues for every believer, we're talking about Mark 16, where Jesus said, he said, yes, go ye into all the world, preach the gospel, these signs will accompany them that believe and you know the signs.

23:24 But one of the other signs he said was not just laying hands on the sick and taking up serpents, the other sign was and they will speak with new tongues. Amen. Okay, I love what the apostle Paul said. He said, this is how important it is that we stir it up, especially in the season that we are in right now. How do you pray for our nation? How do you pray for the rising generations? How are we gonna pray? We need to stir up the gift of tongues. The apostle Paul said, I thank my God, I speak in tongues more than you all.

24:09 He had so much wisdom, he had so much revelation, he wrote two thirds of the New Testament. There had to be, that had to be the secret to his ministry. Even Brother Hagen, you remember when he said, I find that after I spent a lot of time speaking in other tongues in my personal private prayer time, that more and more and more of the manifestation of the gifts of the spirit manifest in my meetings and in my life. So there's power in praying in tongues. Okay, so number one, why is it so important? Number one, it is a supernatural means of communication.

24:54 Speaking in tongues is speaking, listen, the language of heaven, but I don't understand what I'm saying. That is very biblical. Because when you speak in an unknown tongue, 1 Corinthians says, you do not speak to people, but you're speaking directly to God. No one understands you, however, in the spirit, the scripture says, you're speaking mysteries, divine secrets.

25:40 The Amplified says, is everybody good? For one who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not to men, but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning. Because in the Holy Spirit, he utters secret truths and hidden things not obvious to his understanding. We need to stir up praying in the Holy Ghost. Because when we do, we're speaking the mysteries of heaven, we're praying out God's plans and God's purposes in the earth.

26:22 Again, I keep hearing it in my spirit, but I don't understand what I'm saying. It doesn't matter, it's your spirit by the Holy Spirit within you praying out what God needs prayed out in the earth. I was speaking in a church in South Jersey and the Lord gave us a prophecy, and the Spirit of God said, there's coming to my church a surge of this kind of praying. Now, if we don't teach it, we're not gonna see it. If people don't see the benefits of praying in the Holy Ghost, we're not gonna see it.

27:07 Faith comes by what? Hearing, and hearing by the word of God. My kids, I have two 32 year olds and one 31 year old. I tell them all the time, when you don't know what to do, pray in tongues, and I'm their mother, and you think they'd be doing it. Why can't we get these kids to listen? But I want a new job. Well, when you pray in the Holy Ghost, he goes before you, he prepares the way, you're praying the mystery regarding that new job and that open door, and when you're praying in the Holy Ghost, he's making the crooked way straight, the rough places plain, this person comes into your life, that person comes into your life, and all things just begin to work together for the good.

27:59 But I don't understand what I'm saying. That's Bible. Because things in your life, and even when you're praying for other people, some things, like we said, are just a mystery. Right? Well, when you're praying in tongues, he that speaks in an unknown tongues, you're speaking mysteries. You're speaking the wisdom of God in a mystery. You're praying out that mystery, not by might, nor by your intellect, nor by what you think, you're praying it out in the language of heaven that will bring about results.

28:39 This kind of praying produces results. I should actually write a book on this. Oh no, not another assignment. You know what, that's a good idea. I never thought of that. Not every other kind of book. Prayer of Surrender, How to Get the Prayer of Faith, Prayer of Intercession, why not one on tongues? Oh, but there's so many books on this. Well, have you read them? See what I'm saying? The Bible says, be doers of the word and not hearers only because otherwise we deceive our own self. Do you know that if we would spend more time praying in tongues, it would alleviate a lot of work?

29:28 Number two, your spirit is communicating or communing with God. First, John 4.24 says, God is a spirit. God is not a mind. God is not human. God is a spirit.
