Israel Election Analysis: Winners, Losers, Prospects for a New Government or New Election

The Israeli election took place October 27, but even the next day, or a week later, it’s far too soon to know who all the winners and losers are, or what are the prospects for formation of a new government. How can that be the case if the votes are all counted? What’s the procedure and next steps for the formation of a new government? Who will be the country’s next Prime Minister and what will be the make-up of the new government? Will the new government be formed under Prime Minister Netanyahu again, with former Chief of Staff and relative newcomer Gadi Eisenkot at its head, or are there other options and potential surprises in store? Will anyone be able to form a government or will Israel need to go back to the polls for yet another election in several months?
