(276) “Who Is Greater?”
Everyone has an opinion on what greatness is. The world certainly does. But what does God say about greatness? What is greatness in the Kingdom, and what are the qualifications for being great?
Join the Busses for a look at how God deals with this subject throughout the Scriptures. From King David to Jesus and the disciples, the principle is clear: to be great, you must go low. The enemy and his cohorts always want to be exalted on the high places, thinking they can be greater than God. But our Heavenly Father and Jesus show us by example that the Greatest is the Servant of all. Tune in and be encouraged to go low, not to despise the small beginnings, and to focus on the greatness of your God!

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.500
It's not by might. And it's not by power. But
00:00:03.500 --> 00:00:08.339
it's by my spirit. So it's not the greatness
00:00:08.339 --> 00:00:12.359
of your army. It's not the greatness of your
00:00:12.359 --> 00:00:15.619
politics. It's not the greatness of your economy.
00:00:16.039 --> 00:00:27.420
It's the greatness of your God. God promises
00:00:27.420 --> 00:00:31.280
in Joel 2 .28 to pour His Spirit out on all humanity.
00:00:31.980 --> 00:00:34.820
Welcome to Global Outpouring, where we contend
00:00:34.820 --> 00:00:37.679
for that promise outpouring, we equip for that
00:00:37.679 --> 00:00:41.159
outpouring, so that we may engage in that very
00:00:41.159 --> 00:00:44.420
outpouring. I'm Philip Buss. And I'm Sharon Buss.
00:00:44.420 --> 00:00:47.159
Welcome to the podcast today. I think you're
00:00:47.159 --> 00:00:50.619
going to really enjoy this one. This is a wonderful
00:00:50.619 --> 00:00:53.869
subject that we have today. Jesus dealt with
00:00:53.869 --> 00:00:57.750
it, and it's all through the scripture. Who is
00:00:57.750 --> 00:01:06.409
greater? Here's a hint. Go low. We're so glad
00:01:06.409 --> 00:01:09.090
that you've joined us today. Before we get started,
00:01:09.129 --> 00:01:11.030

00:02:23.689 --> 00:02:27.110

00:02:27.110 --> 00:02:30.370
of the content that we have and there's a prayer

00:02:32.990 --> 00:02:35.789
can get involved in groups and it's just a beautiful
00:02:35.789 --> 00:02:40.229
way to build community. So today we're going
00:02:40.229 --> 00:02:44.740
to talk about this dispute that the disciples
00:02:44.740 --> 00:02:49.360
had. And the Lord has just downloaded an amazing
00:02:49.360 --> 00:02:54.520
multi -level look at what it means to be greater.
00:02:54.659 --> 00:02:56.900
How do you know who's greater? What are the qualifications
00:02:56.900 --> 00:02:59.780
for being greater? Well, it might surprise you.
00:02:59.919 --> 00:03:03.020
It's not about the most smart. It's not about
00:03:03.020 --> 00:03:06.020
the most qualified. I mean, the qualifications
00:03:06.020 --> 00:03:09.770
are not what you might think. So let's just go
00:03:09.770 --> 00:03:11.789
through this dispute that the disciples were
00:03:11.789 --> 00:03:16.669
having. And it started in Mark 9, verses 33 to
00:03:16.669 --> 00:03:20.069
37. The Passion Translation puts it well. Then
00:03:20.069 --> 00:03:22.509
they came to Capernaum, and as soon as Jesus
00:03:22.509 --> 00:03:25.050
was inside the house, he asked his disciples,
00:03:25.330 --> 00:03:28.069
What were you arguing about on the way here?
00:03:28.370 --> 00:03:33.349
Uh -oh. He was listening. No one said a word
00:03:33.349 --> 00:03:35.569
because they had been arguing about which one
00:03:35.569 --> 00:03:39.030
of them was the greatest. Jesus sat down, called
00:03:39.030 --> 00:03:41.189
the twelve disciples to come around him and said
00:03:41.189 --> 00:03:44.469
to them, If anyone wants to be first, he must
00:03:44.469 --> 00:03:47.449
be content to be last and become a servant to
00:03:47.449 --> 00:03:50.490
all. Then he had a child come and stand among
00:03:50.490 --> 00:03:53.509
them. He wrapped the child in his arms and said
00:03:53.509 --> 00:03:56.449
to them, Whosoever welcomes a little child in
00:03:56.449 --> 00:03:59.750
my name welcomes me, and whosoever welcomes me
00:03:59.750 --> 00:04:02.469
welcomes not only me, but the one who sent me.
00:04:03.819 --> 00:04:07.159
So then the dispute continues in the next chapter.
00:04:07.500 --> 00:04:09.080
You think that would have took the wind out of
00:04:09.080 --> 00:04:10.840
their sails? You would think so, but apparently
00:04:10.840 --> 00:04:14.400
they didn't get the message. Mark 10, 35 to 45.
00:04:15.620 --> 00:04:18.620
And it's interesting that the Passion Translation
00:04:18.620 --> 00:04:24.480
gives James his proper Hebrew name. Yaakov. Yeah,
00:04:24.540 --> 00:04:29.600
Jacob. Jacob and John, sons of Zebedee, approached
00:04:29.600 --> 00:04:32.750
Jesus and said, Teacher, will you do a favor
00:04:32.750 --> 00:04:36.709
for us? What is it you're wanting me to do? I
00:04:36.709 --> 00:04:40.410
mean, Jesus already knew. Of course. We want
00:04:40.410 --> 00:04:42.769
to sit next to you when you come into your glory,
00:04:42.889 --> 00:04:45.209
they said. One at your right hand and the other
00:04:45.209 --> 00:04:48.970
on your left. Jesus said to them, You don't have
00:04:48.970 --> 00:04:52.790
a clue what you're asking for. Are you prepared
00:04:52.790 --> 00:04:54.970
to drink from the cup of suffering that I am
00:04:54.970 --> 00:04:57.829
about to drink? And are you able to endure the
00:04:57.829 --> 00:05:00.970
baptism into death that I am about to experience?
00:05:01.589 --> 00:05:05.250
They replied, Yes, we are able. Jesus said to
00:05:05.250 --> 00:05:07.730
them, You will certainly drink from the cup of
00:05:07.730 --> 00:05:10.089
my sufferings and be immersed into my death,
00:05:10.269 --> 00:05:12.829
but to have you sit in the position of highest
00:05:12.829 --> 00:05:16.269
honor is not mine to decide. It is reserved for
00:05:16.269 --> 00:05:18.810
those whom grace has prepared them to have it.
00:05:19.689 --> 00:05:22.129
Now, the other ten disciples overheard this.
00:05:22.329 --> 00:05:25.910
Oh, boy. And they became angry and began to criticize
00:05:25.910 --> 00:05:29.410
Jacob and John. I can imagine Peter jumping in,
00:05:29.449 --> 00:05:32.449
too, you know. Jesus gathered them all together
00:05:32.449 --> 00:05:35.209
and said to them, Those recognized as rulers
00:05:35.209 --> 00:05:37.810
of the people and those who are in top leadership
00:05:37.810 --> 00:05:40.550
positions rule oppressively over their subjects.
00:05:41.089 --> 00:05:43.550
But this is not the example you are to follow.
00:05:44.050 --> 00:05:47.300
You are to lead by a different model. If you
00:05:47.300 --> 00:05:49.439
want to be the greatest one, then live as one
00:05:49.439 --> 00:05:52.480
called to serve others. The path of promotion
00:05:52.480 --> 00:05:55.279
and prominence comes by having the heart of a
00:05:55.279 --> 00:05:59.060
bond slave who serves everyone. For even the
00:05:59.060 --> 00:06:01.459
Son of Man did not come expecting to be served
00:06:01.459 --> 00:06:04.920
by everyone, but to serve everyone and to give
00:06:04.920 --> 00:06:07.959
his life as the ransom price in exchange for
00:06:07.959 --> 00:06:11.699
the salvation of many. Amen. Argument ended.
00:06:11.939 --> 00:06:14.579
Yeah. For sure. And I think they were probably
00:06:14.579 --> 00:06:17.480
still scratching their heads. And in another
00:06:17.480 --> 00:06:20.819
gospel, it talks about Zebedee's wife, James
00:06:20.819 --> 00:06:24.279
and John's or Jacob. It would really be Yaakov
00:06:24.279 --> 00:06:27.720
and Yohanan. That would be their real Hebrew
00:06:27.720 --> 00:06:30.329
names. It was their mother that would approach
00:06:30.329 --> 00:06:33.829
Jesus. Ambitious mom. Yeah, good Jewish mom.
00:06:33.889 --> 00:06:39.370
Good Jewish mama. This is my boys. She's holding
00:06:39.370 --> 00:06:42.009
out her baby. This is my son, the doctor. She
00:06:42.009 --> 00:06:47.550
has plans. And I just think it's really interesting
00:06:47.550 --> 00:06:52.290
that Jesus brings it home to them that he came
00:06:52.290 --> 00:06:55.930
to serve. And if you remember, I think there's
00:06:55.930 --> 00:06:58.639
been more than one. podcast, more than one episode
00:06:58.639 --> 00:07:01.800
that we have done with Dean Braxton. And after
00:07:01.800 --> 00:07:05.899
we had this message from Dean Braxton about serving
00:07:05.899 --> 00:07:08.759
in heaven, that serving is the number one thing,
00:07:08.779 --> 00:07:11.379
that when you meet one another in heaven, you
00:07:11.379 --> 00:07:14.019
don't say, hi, how are you? You say, how can
00:07:14.019 --> 00:07:18.500
I serve you? And I don't know if you can hear
00:07:18.500 --> 00:07:20.639
that, but we just had a clap of thunder. God
00:07:20.639 --> 00:07:23.899
was just saying, yep, yep, that's it. You got
00:07:23.899 --> 00:07:28.670
it. Service is the number one thing. That is
00:07:28.670 --> 00:07:34.350
the qualifier for prominence. It's the qualifier
00:07:34.350 --> 00:07:36.670
for who is the greatest. It's the opposite of
00:07:36.670 --> 00:07:39.730
the business world. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the business
00:07:39.730 --> 00:07:42.079
world you have to sell yourself. I mean, well,
00:07:42.180 --> 00:07:44.899
you kind of do both ways, however you might think
00:07:44.899 --> 00:07:48.040
of that. But, you know, the people who are looking
00:07:48.040 --> 00:07:51.779
for people to put in high positions are looking
00:07:51.779 --> 00:07:55.220
for people who know how to tell that they can
00:07:55.220 --> 00:07:57.879
do it. And here's all my qualifications. And
00:07:57.879 --> 00:08:00.379
I've done this and I've done that. And I'm educated
00:08:00.379 --> 00:08:03.500
in this and I'm educated in that. And they overlook
00:08:03.500 --> 00:08:07.699
the guy that probably has all of those same qualifications.
00:08:08.540 --> 00:08:10.620
But doesn't boast. And I'm going to interject
00:08:10.620 --> 00:08:12.500
something here. Sure. This is kind of funny.
00:08:13.240 --> 00:08:17.420
This is a book that someone gave me. And it's
00:08:17.420 --> 00:08:21.279
a comic strip that I never enjoyed. Not that
00:08:21.279 --> 00:08:24.939
I enjoy comic strips. But it's called Dogbert's
00:08:24.939 --> 00:08:28.259
Management Handbook. And it's Dilbert. You know,
00:08:28.300 --> 00:08:31.060
it's an office. And, you know, who knows, maybe
00:08:31.060 --> 00:08:34.039
the British thing, the office. was an offshoot
00:08:34.039 --> 00:08:35.320
of something like that. That wasn't British.
00:08:35.580 --> 00:08:38.659
No, that's not, but the original Office was British.
00:08:39.320 --> 00:08:42.039
And then they did a remake in the U .S. Oh, really?
00:08:42.200 --> 00:08:43.759
I didn't know that. Yeah, that's what I found
00:08:43.759 --> 00:08:47.820
out. So anyway, in this book, and it's very well
00:08:47.820 --> 00:08:50.899
detailed in all kinds of things, and it does
00:08:50.899 --> 00:08:53.679
the total opposite of what you're really supposed
00:08:53.679 --> 00:08:56.440
to do according to the kingdom of God. Right.
00:08:56.620 --> 00:08:58.460
I mean, this is how you get ahead. This is how
00:08:58.460 --> 00:09:01.419
you treat your employees. This is the world way
00:09:01.419 --> 00:09:04.820
of... I'm not recommending you go buy out there,
00:09:04.980 --> 00:09:08.320
but The Dilbert Principle is another book. It's
00:09:08.320 --> 00:09:10.960
the same author that wrote the title of this
00:09:10.960 --> 00:09:13.820
one is Dogbert's Management Handbook. Yeah, it's
00:09:13.820 --> 00:09:16.600
by Scott Adams. If you want to look at something
00:09:16.600 --> 00:09:19.639
that this is not the way the kingdom of God operates.
00:09:19.779 --> 00:09:22.539
Right. And I just had to throw that in because
00:09:22.539 --> 00:09:25.379
this is the way the world thinks. Right. I've
00:09:25.379 --> 00:09:27.919
got to get ahead. And even though everybody talks
00:09:27.919 --> 00:09:30.759
to themselves, they're very nice. You know, and
00:09:30.759 --> 00:09:33.820
then this and that. But they secretly, if you're
00:09:33.820 --> 00:09:37.019
in a higher position, somebody wants your job.
00:09:37.240 --> 00:09:40.039
Yeah. It reminds me of how your dad kept getting
00:09:40.039 --> 00:09:43.580
bumped. Yeah. The way his job was set up that
00:09:43.580 --> 00:09:46.000
you could put in for somebody else's job and
00:09:46.000 --> 00:09:49.179
bump somebody. Seniority. Yeah. They could bid
00:09:49.179 --> 00:09:51.200
for your job and get it. Then you had to knock
00:09:51.200 --> 00:09:53.860
somebody else off. It's terrible. Very poor management.
00:09:54.360 --> 00:09:58.230
Terrible. It's really sad. So anyway, Jesus was
00:09:58.230 --> 00:10:03.029
trying to get his disciples to understand the
00:10:03.029 --> 00:10:06.450
idea of service because that's the heavenly principle.
00:10:06.950 --> 00:10:11.289
And he came to serve and not to be served, but
00:10:11.289 --> 00:10:15.409
he came to give his life as a ransom. He came
00:10:15.409 --> 00:10:17.490
to be our redeemer. Then he was going to pay
00:10:17.490 --> 00:10:21.090
the price for us. That's service. Yes. Greater
00:10:21.090 --> 00:10:23.230
love has no man than this, that he lays down
00:10:23.230 --> 00:10:27.159
his life for his friends. Yeah. So fast forward
00:10:27.159 --> 00:10:32.539
to the Last Supper. By this time, Jesus has really
00:10:32.539 --> 00:10:37.159
kind of given Peter a lot of clues that he really
00:10:37.159 --> 00:10:40.860
is going to be the one that is going to be spokesman
00:10:40.860 --> 00:10:45.309
for the move after he leaves. Jesus probably
00:10:45.309 --> 00:10:47.970
didn't outwardly say that. No. But it wasn't
00:10:47.970 --> 00:10:50.230
until the day of Pentecost when it actually happened.
00:10:50.309 --> 00:10:52.549
Right. But he had given Peter some clues. You
00:10:52.549 --> 00:10:55.309
know, Jesus said, who do men say that I am? And
00:10:55.309 --> 00:10:58.200
Peter had the answer. Yeah. Thou art the Christ,
00:10:58.460 --> 00:11:01.559
the Son of God. And Jesus said, on this, I'm
00:11:01.559 --> 00:11:04.159
going to build my church. And so, you know, there
00:11:04.159 --> 00:11:06.639
were clues along the way that Peter was going
00:11:06.639 --> 00:11:09.039
to be designated as the guy that was going to
00:11:09.039 --> 00:11:12.620
stand up and preach on that day when the Holy
00:11:12.620 --> 00:11:15.120
Spirit was poured out. Peter the Rock. Peter
00:11:15.120 --> 00:11:18.559
the Rock. But if you remember, that's a long
00:11:18.559 --> 00:11:22.990
time ago now, but episode 139. It was called
00:11:22.990 --> 00:11:25.230
Whatever Your Blunder, It's Forgivable, There's
00:11:25.230 --> 00:11:28.809
Hope. And we went through all of Peter's blunders
00:11:28.809 --> 00:11:31.710
that he did right there at the last. All the
00:11:31.710 --> 00:11:33.909
known blunders. The known blunders, the ones
00:11:33.909 --> 00:11:36.269
that are written in the book where he, you know,
00:11:36.269 --> 00:11:39.230
he just keeps doing everything wrong. He's making
00:11:39.230 --> 00:11:42.450
the wrong choices. So there's hope for all of
00:11:42.450 --> 00:11:45.450
us when we've made a wrong choice. God says,
00:11:45.509 --> 00:11:48.610
do it this way and we do it that way. And so
00:11:48.610 --> 00:11:52.210
Jesus gives Peter an opportunity. at the Last
00:11:52.210 --> 00:11:55.669
Supper by where he posted him. You know, he probably
00:11:55.669 --> 00:11:57.789
came in and said, you sit here, you sit here,
00:11:57.870 --> 00:11:59.610
you sit here, you sit here, you sit here. And
00:11:59.610 --> 00:12:02.049
the last of all was Peter. Peter, you sit over
00:12:02.049 --> 00:12:05.529
there. And that over there place, I won't go
00:12:05.529 --> 00:12:08.269
into the details like I did on that podcast on
00:12:08.269 --> 00:12:10.830
episode 139. If you want to hear more, go back
00:12:10.830 --> 00:12:14.169
to that one. But the place that Peter was put
00:12:14.169 --> 00:12:19.120
was the place of the servant. And if you didn't
00:12:19.120 --> 00:12:22.679
have servants to wash your feet when you came
00:12:22.679 --> 00:12:25.019
in for the dinner, then the guy in that last
00:12:25.019 --> 00:12:28.240
seat is supposed to wash everybody's feet. And
00:12:28.240 --> 00:12:31.460
Peter didn't do it. You know, he was thinking,
00:12:31.659 --> 00:12:36.100
I'm not going to do that. That's beneath me.
00:12:36.320 --> 00:12:38.500
No, no, no, no. Especially when you've been getting
00:12:38.500 --> 00:12:40.679
these keys along the way. Right, right, right.
00:12:40.820 --> 00:12:43.879
So it's like Jesus never exactly said I was going
00:12:43.879 --> 00:12:47.039
to be the greatest. But didn't they remember
00:12:47.039 --> 00:12:50.480
what he just said? The servant is the greatest
00:12:50.480 --> 00:12:53.340
of all. Now, apparently that wasn't in their
00:12:53.340 --> 00:12:57.000
minds. They hadn't developed the mindset. And
00:12:57.000 --> 00:13:00.820
that's what we want to get into here is the mindset
00:13:00.820 --> 00:13:05.500
of you go low if you want to be great. If you
00:13:05.500 --> 00:13:07.809
want to be first, you've got to be last. First,
00:13:07.830 --> 00:13:11.110
you got to be last. That's the first thing. You
00:13:11.110 --> 00:13:12.470
got to be last. The last shall be first. Yes,
00:13:12.490 --> 00:13:14.289
the last shall be first and the first shall be
00:13:14.289 --> 00:13:17.649
last. So Jesus was putting Peter, who had been
00:13:17.649 --> 00:13:20.490
first along the way, he puts him in the last
00:13:20.490 --> 00:13:24.549
place. And Peter was put out. Probably not happy.
00:13:24.730 --> 00:13:27.669
And that's why he put up such a fuss when Jesus
00:13:27.669 --> 00:13:31.450
came to wash his feet, because he knew he was
00:13:31.450 --> 00:13:33.590
supposed to be the one to wash everybody's feet,
00:13:33.669 --> 00:13:36.059
and he didn't do it. You know, that's why he
00:13:36.059 --> 00:13:38.600
put up a fuss and said, no, no, you can't wash
00:13:38.600 --> 00:13:41.799
my feet. And Jesus said, yeah, I got to wash
00:13:41.799 --> 00:13:43.779
your feet. Or you have no part of me. You have
00:13:43.779 --> 00:13:45.860
no part of me. Oh, well, then wash my head and
00:13:45.860 --> 00:13:49.200
my hands too. No, no, Peter, just your feet.
00:13:49.299 --> 00:13:52.759
That's all we need to do. So Peter, in the end,
00:13:52.879 --> 00:13:55.600
after he made all those blunders and, you know,
00:13:55.600 --> 00:13:57.559
cuts off the ear of the high priest's servant
00:13:57.559 --> 00:14:02.700
and he denies Jesus and he's not there at the
00:14:02.700 --> 00:14:06.590
cross like John is. And he's mortified with his
00:14:06.590 --> 00:14:11.470
own behavior. But in the end, he is the one that
00:14:11.470 --> 00:14:13.970
comes under the anointing to step up on the day
00:14:13.970 --> 00:14:17.549
of Pentecost and preach this sermon that results
00:14:17.549 --> 00:14:22.370
in 3 ,000 believers. So, you know, you have this
00:14:22.370 --> 00:14:25.769
thing that Jesus was trying to teach, but he
00:14:25.769 --> 00:14:31.090
was also expressing who he really is. So in Matthew
00:14:31.090 --> 00:14:35.299
12, 39 to 42, It says, But he answered and said
00:14:35.299 --> 00:14:37.779
to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks
00:14:37.779 --> 00:14:41.200
after a sign, and no sign will be given to it
00:14:41.200 --> 00:14:43.960
except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as
00:14:43.960 --> 00:14:46.159
Jonah was three days and three nights in the
00:14:46.159 --> 00:14:48.799
belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man
00:14:48.799 --> 00:14:50.700
be three days and three nights in the heart of
00:14:50.700 --> 00:14:53.600
the earth. The men of Nineveh will rise up in
00:14:53.600 --> 00:14:55.539
the judgment with this generation and condemn
00:14:55.539 --> 00:14:57.559
it because they repented at the preaching of
00:14:57.559 --> 00:15:01.820
Jonah, and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.
00:15:02.940 --> 00:15:05.200
The queen of the south will rise up in judgment
00:15:05.200 --> 00:15:07.179
with this generation and condemn it, for she
00:15:07.179 --> 00:15:09.840
came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom
00:15:09.840 --> 00:15:13.059
of Solomon. And indeed, a greater than Solomon
00:15:13.059 --> 00:15:16.899
is here. So Jesus was actually showing that he
00:15:16.899 --> 00:15:20.080
is greater than Jonah and Solomon, you know,
00:15:20.080 --> 00:15:22.259
greater than a king and greater than a prophet.
00:15:22.460 --> 00:15:26.879
Hmm. Hmm. Yeah. Interesting. So you have this
00:15:26.879 --> 00:15:31.659
statement that Jesus makes that, okay. you've
00:15:31.659 --> 00:15:35.220
got these people in your history, but I'm actually
00:15:35.220 --> 00:15:38.279
greater than they are. So he makes the statement
00:15:38.279 --> 00:15:42.080
that he is. So let's move on. What does Exodus
00:15:42.080 --> 00:15:46.480
18, 11 say? Now I know that the Lord is greater
00:15:46.480 --> 00:15:49.259
than all the gods, for in the very thing in which
00:15:49.259 --> 00:15:52.820
they behaved proudly, he was above them. Uh -huh.
00:15:53.320 --> 00:15:57.700
So this is Exodus 18. So this is referring back
00:15:57.700 --> 00:16:01.529
to all the gods of Egypt. That the people of
00:16:01.529 --> 00:16:05.610
Egypt were placing their expectations on. And
00:16:05.610 --> 00:16:08.049
in the Middle East in those days, in biblical
00:16:08.049 --> 00:16:12.409
times in particular, it was understood that there
00:16:12.409 --> 00:16:16.730
were certain gods over each region. And that's
00:16:16.730 --> 00:16:20.230
why our father refers to himself and his people
00:16:20.230 --> 00:16:24.210
refer to him as the God of Israel. The only one.
00:16:24.330 --> 00:16:26.889
There's only one God of Israel. All the others
00:16:26.889 --> 00:16:30.179
have multiple gods to get their job done. And,
00:16:30.179 --> 00:16:33.000
for instance, as travelers would go from one
00:16:33.000 --> 00:16:36.379
place to another, like the merchants, as these
00:16:36.379 --> 00:16:39.200
merchants would be going on the trade routes,
00:16:39.340 --> 00:16:42.279
as they would pass from one region to another,
00:16:42.399 --> 00:16:46.259
they might actually invoke the gods of that area.
00:16:46.700 --> 00:16:49.340
And they would recognize that the God of Israel
00:16:49.340 --> 00:16:51.960
was different than everybody else. And his name
00:16:51.960 --> 00:16:56.899
is... Yehovah. So it's clear from Exodus 18,
00:16:56.940 --> 00:17:01.639
11, that he is greater than all the gods. It
00:17:01.639 --> 00:17:05.079
just says Lord in most of our translations, but
00:17:05.079 --> 00:17:09.119
his name is Yehovah. And then you have the scripture
00:17:09.119 --> 00:17:14.099
in Isaiah 14, 12 to 15, talking, some of the
00:17:14.099 --> 00:17:17.380
translations use the word Lucifer, but the Passion
00:17:17.380 --> 00:17:20.710
uses a different translation. So would you read
00:17:20.710 --> 00:17:24.490
Isaiah 14, 12 through 15 from the Passion Translation,
00:17:24.490 --> 00:17:27.650
please? Look how you have fallen from your heavenly
00:17:27.650 --> 00:17:31.470
place, O shining one, son of the dawn. You have
00:17:31.470 --> 00:17:34.190
been cut down to the ground, you who conquered
00:17:34.190 --> 00:17:37.890
nations. You said in your heart, I will ascend
00:17:37.890 --> 00:17:40.630
into heaven and exalt my throne above the stars
00:17:40.630 --> 00:17:44.089
of God. I will rule on the mountain of the congregation,
00:17:44.509 --> 00:17:47.329
on the highest place of the sacred mountain.
00:17:48.140 --> 00:17:51.359
I will rise past the tops of the clouds and rival
00:17:51.359 --> 00:17:54.519
the Most High God. Yet down to the underworld
00:17:54.519 --> 00:17:58.480
you go, into the depths of the pit. Amen. That's
00:17:58.480 --> 00:18:00.700
where he belongs, and he's on his way there already.
00:18:01.140 --> 00:18:03.460
From the moment God said, let there be light,
00:18:03.519 --> 00:18:06.220
he was on his way there. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
00:18:06.359 --> 00:18:10.900
But I think it's fascinating and very eye -opening.
00:18:11.940 --> 00:18:16.859
When you look at who is operating on the Temple
00:18:16.859 --> 00:18:21.759
Mount now, There is some other entity that is
00:18:21.759 --> 00:18:25.819
being worshipped besides Yehovah. That was his
00:18:25.819 --> 00:18:30.339
temple place. And, you know, the sides of the
00:18:30.339 --> 00:18:33.799
north indicates that this is the location that's
00:18:33.799 --> 00:18:36.700
north of the city of David. That's very clear
00:18:36.700 --> 00:18:39.259
from every time that is used in the scripture,
00:18:39.460 --> 00:18:42.619
the expression, the sides of the north. It was
00:18:42.619 --> 00:18:46.609
the Temple Mount. Yeah. The temple was built
00:18:46.609 --> 00:18:50.029
there in Solomon's day, and it was taken down
00:18:50.029 --> 00:18:53.329
in the Babylonian conquering, and then it was
00:18:53.329 --> 00:18:55.890
rebuilt. And we'll talk about that in a minute.
00:18:55.930 --> 00:19:00.710
But to see that there's somebody else being worshipped
00:19:00.710 --> 00:19:04.609
there. And the people who are worshipping there,
00:19:04.809 --> 00:19:08.279
I call them the Psalm 2 people. You need to read
00:19:08.279 --> 00:19:11.920
Psalm 2. Why do the heathen rage? Imagine a vain
00:19:11.920 --> 00:19:15.079
thing. Right. And they're all against the Lord's
00:19:15.079 --> 00:19:18.700
anointed, right? It's a very anti -Christ religion.
00:19:19.440 --> 00:19:22.480
So they're the ones that are worshiping there.
00:19:22.660 --> 00:19:27.099
And when they do a terrorist action, they make
00:19:27.099 --> 00:19:31.299
a statement in Arabic that declares that their
00:19:31.299 --> 00:19:36.759
deity that they worship is greater. That thing
00:19:36.759 --> 00:19:39.960
that they say means their deity is greater. So
00:19:39.960 --> 00:19:43.440
they're trying to make a point that their guy
00:19:43.440 --> 00:19:46.799
is higher, he's greater. He's the one who said,
00:19:46.900 --> 00:19:50.660
I will exalt myself above the most high. Exalt
00:19:50.660 --> 00:19:54.319
myself. And there he is. That's who's operating
00:19:54.319 --> 00:19:58.099
there on the Temple Mount right now and exercising
00:19:58.099 --> 00:20:04.019
all kinds of activity from Indonesia all the
00:20:04.019 --> 00:20:08.670
way to West Africa. There's an amazing swath
00:20:08.670 --> 00:20:12.170
of land that is under that oppression. It's an
00:20:12.170 --> 00:20:15.150
oppression. Yeah. And they need deliverance.
00:20:15.170 --> 00:20:19.410
And listen, we are not against Muslims. We're
00:20:19.410 --> 00:20:22.789
not against Muslims. We love Muslims. But we
00:20:22.789 --> 00:20:27.170
hate the chains of bondage that keep them. Of
00:20:27.170 --> 00:20:28.950
the one they serve. Yeah, the one that they're
00:20:28.950 --> 00:20:32.750
serving is the wrong one. I could go into more
00:20:32.750 --> 00:20:35.349
details, but I won't take time now. That's probably
00:20:35.349 --> 00:20:38.329
a subject for another podcast. In fact, we probably
00:20:38.329 --> 00:20:42.390
covered it in another episode, and we'll put
00:20:42.390 --> 00:20:46.569
that in the show notes too. So this other character
00:20:46.569 --> 00:20:48.569
thinks that he's greater, and he's trying to
00:20:48.569 --> 00:20:50.569
make all of his followers say that he's greater,
00:20:50.710 --> 00:20:54.690
but he's not. But he's occupying a place that
00:20:54.690 --> 00:21:03.880
belongs to our Father. Our God, Yehovah, our
00:21:03.880 --> 00:21:08.140
Father, is not like the gods of the other nations
00:21:08.140 --> 00:21:12.160
because they all want to occupy the high places.
00:21:13.079 --> 00:21:16.960
And we know that our God is the highest. He is
00:21:16.960 --> 00:21:20.339
the greatest. His word says he is, and we know
00:21:20.339 --> 00:21:22.299
that he is because he keeps showing himself to
00:21:22.299 --> 00:21:24.160
be greater and stronger than all these other
00:21:24.160 --> 00:21:30.140
entities. But he chooses a place that's lower.
00:21:30.809 --> 00:21:33.730
than the high places. If you haven't been to
00:21:33.730 --> 00:21:37.329
Jerusalem, we encourage you to go, but you will
00:21:37.329 --> 00:21:42.609
see that the Temple Mount is lower than the mountains
00:21:42.609 --> 00:21:45.430
that are around Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives
00:21:45.430 --> 00:21:48.549
is higher. What they call the Mount of Evil Counsel
00:21:48.549 --> 00:21:51.990
is higher. There's another one called the Central
00:21:51.990 --> 00:21:54.710
Mount, and it's kind of part of modern Jerusalem
00:21:54.710 --> 00:21:58.589
now, but I don't think it was at the time. Whether
00:21:58.589 --> 00:22:00.329
it's actually higher than the Temple Mount, I
00:22:00.329 --> 00:22:03.509
don't know for sure. But the point is that the
00:22:03.509 --> 00:22:06.349
place where he chose to put his name is lower.
00:22:07.390 --> 00:22:10.329
And when the pilgrims would come from the north,
00:22:10.509 --> 00:22:15.170
they would come up the other side of the Mount
00:22:15.170 --> 00:22:17.910
of Olives and they'd get to the top and they'd
00:22:17.910 --> 00:22:22.819
look down. on this beautiful view of the beautiful
00:22:22.819 --> 00:22:25.700
temple of God, and they're looking down on it.
00:22:26.000 --> 00:22:29.980
So it's another picture of how our Father and
00:22:29.980 --> 00:22:35.759
Jesus, who is his expressed image, came as an
00:22:35.759 --> 00:22:39.599
example of go low. If you want to be greatest,
00:22:39.900 --> 00:22:43.059
you got to go low. Even our God goes low. And
00:22:43.059 --> 00:22:45.839
the same thing is true at Shiloh. The platform
00:22:45.839 --> 00:22:48.900
where the tabernacle was all those years, 360
00:22:48.900 --> 00:22:54.359
some years, it is lower than the mountains round
00:22:54.359 --> 00:22:57.259
about it. In fact, that's how they determined
00:22:57.259 --> 00:23:01.079
what I'm calling proof positive. That's how the
00:23:01.079 --> 00:23:04.359
archaeologists decided that this is truly Shiloh,
00:23:04.420 --> 00:23:08.400
because the traditions that are written about
00:23:08.400 --> 00:23:12.500
it is that when the people would come there to
00:23:12.500 --> 00:23:16.369
sacrifice. that they would do their sacrifice
00:23:16.369 --> 00:23:18.390
and then they would take their portion of meat
00:23:18.390 --> 00:23:23.170
and they would eat it within view of the tabernacle.
00:23:23.269 --> 00:23:26.150
They had to eat the sacrifice within view of
00:23:26.150 --> 00:23:28.450
the tabernacle. That's really interesting. So
00:23:28.450 --> 00:23:32.190
they've got these mountains around about it and
00:23:32.190 --> 00:23:34.670
the archaeologists discovered that there was
00:23:34.670 --> 00:23:38.890
all kinds of pottery shards all over everywhere
00:23:38.890 --> 00:23:42.490
where you could see that platform. where the
00:23:42.490 --> 00:23:45.470
tabernacle would have stood. Yeah. That was their
00:23:45.470 --> 00:23:49.430
archaeological findings. A lot of times where
00:23:49.430 --> 00:23:52.890
battles took place, they could tell by the bones
00:23:52.890 --> 00:23:54.930
that remained of what they were eating. Right.
00:23:55.109 --> 00:23:58.690
Because if it wasn't a kosher animal, it wasn't
00:23:58.690 --> 00:24:01.710
an Israeli camp. Exactly. Exactly. And so any
00:24:01.710 --> 00:24:03.930
bones that were there would have been kosher
00:24:03.930 --> 00:24:07.769
animals. Yeah. Right? So the point is that our
00:24:07.769 --> 00:24:13.069
Father goes low. He wants to be seen from above.
00:24:13.349 --> 00:24:17.210
How amazing is that? How amazing is that? And
00:24:17.210 --> 00:24:21.549
Dean Braxton was mentioning to us about what
00:24:21.549 --> 00:24:23.769
it's like in heaven, that it's not how we would
00:24:23.769 --> 00:24:28.170
think. It was something about how you can see
00:24:28.170 --> 00:24:33.549
him from every viewpoint in heaven. Whether you're
00:24:33.549 --> 00:24:37.230
above him or beneath him or beside him, you can
00:24:37.230 --> 00:24:40.910
see him from every place because he's the center
00:24:40.910 --> 00:24:44.930
of it all. But he's actually also the servant
00:24:44.930 --> 00:24:48.329
of all. It's amazing. It's amazing. But, you
00:24:48.329 --> 00:24:50.109
know, the evil spirits, they want the high places.
00:24:51.920 --> 00:24:55.559
Think about Mount Olympus. Most of us have been
00:24:55.559 --> 00:24:58.220
trained in Greek mythology. Well, Mount Olympus
00:24:58.220 --> 00:25:01.299
is way up there above us, and that's the abode
00:25:01.299 --> 00:25:05.759
of the gods. And today, you go into India and
00:25:05.759 --> 00:25:09.299
Nepal and Tibet, and the Himalayas are considered
00:25:09.299 --> 00:25:12.940
the abode of the gods. That's where the gods
00:25:12.940 --> 00:25:15.819
hang out. And I had a revelation here recently.
00:25:17.500 --> 00:25:19.740
You may have heard me say this on another episode,
00:25:19.799 --> 00:25:23.299
but I had this experience where I felt like the
00:25:23.299 --> 00:25:26.960
Lord was showing me that his presence was like
00:25:26.960 --> 00:25:30.380
oxygen, that it's all around you and you can't
00:25:30.380 --> 00:25:32.839
sense it with your five senses, but you can't
00:25:32.839 --> 00:25:35.500
live without it. And that's what his presence
00:25:35.500 --> 00:25:40.619
is like. So I asked Ivan Tuttle, is that true?
00:25:40.740 --> 00:25:43.819
Have I got that? And he said, well, oxygen is
00:25:43.819 --> 00:25:47.299
the presence of God. I said, really? And then
00:25:47.299 --> 00:25:50.579
I asked Dean about it. He said, well, I guess
00:25:50.579 --> 00:25:52.819
you could say that oxygen is the presence of
00:25:52.819 --> 00:25:54.720
God, but I think it would be more accurate to
00:25:54.720 --> 00:25:58.539
say that oxygen is the love of God. So if oxygen
00:25:58.539 --> 00:26:01.940
is the presence or the love of God, and because
00:26:01.940 --> 00:26:05.400
God is love, so his presence would be love. Yes.
00:26:05.559 --> 00:26:09.240
When you go up into the high places, oxygen is
00:26:09.240 --> 00:26:12.579
decreased. So his presence would be decreased.
00:26:13.240 --> 00:26:15.359
That's really interesting. So they're more comfortable
00:26:15.359 --> 00:26:21.079
there. Not so bothered by the presence of God.
00:26:21.319 --> 00:26:25.039
Interesting thought. Yeah, it's amazing. So,
00:26:25.059 --> 00:26:28.880
you know, Israel is also, because the God of
00:26:28.880 --> 00:26:32.660
Israel is the greatest, what does that say about
00:26:32.660 --> 00:26:36.940
Israel? Let's look at Deuteronomy 7, 17 through
00:26:36.940 --> 00:26:40.000
21. Do you want to read that, Philip? If you
00:26:40.000 --> 00:26:42.859
should say in your heart, these nations are greater
00:26:42.859 --> 00:27:16.509
than I, how can I dispossess them? Yes. You shall
00:27:16.509 --> 00:27:19.329
not be terrified of them, for the Lord your God,
00:27:19.490 --> 00:27:23.849
the great and awesome God, is among you. So even
00:27:23.849 --> 00:27:27.730
though the nations round about them are greater,
00:27:27.950 --> 00:27:31.509
especially greater in their eyes. Yeah. You remember
00:27:31.509 --> 00:27:35.009
what it was like when they sent the 12 spies.
00:27:36.210 --> 00:27:38.589
And they came back and said, oh, it's a wonderful
00:27:38.589 --> 00:27:40.569
land, but we can't go there because they have
00:27:40.569 --> 00:27:42.710
giants. We're like grasshoppers to them. Yeah,
00:27:42.730 --> 00:27:47.130
we are too small. They are great. And we are
00:27:47.130 --> 00:27:49.869
small. We can't do this. And, you know, that
00:27:49.869 --> 00:27:54.009
didn't go well for them. No. Didn't go well at
00:27:54.009 --> 00:27:57.109
all for them. They had to march around in the
00:27:57.109 --> 00:28:01.140
wilderness another 40 years. They lost their
00:28:01.140 --> 00:28:04.559
opportunity to go into the promised land. From
00:28:04.559 --> 00:28:08.299
one bad decision. Yep, yep. Because they were
00:28:08.299 --> 00:28:12.039
looking at the greatness of the enemies with
00:28:12.039 --> 00:28:15.559
their natural eyes instead of remembering the
00:28:15.559 --> 00:28:19.299
greatness of their God. And he's the God of Israel,
00:28:19.400 --> 00:28:23.359
so that makes Israel a great nation because they
00:28:23.359 --> 00:28:26.480
have a great God, not because they're so superior,
00:28:26.640 --> 00:28:29.519
and they are. Obviously, we've just seen that
00:28:29.519 --> 00:28:33.579
recently about their superiority and what they
00:28:33.579 --> 00:28:37.980
cleaned up in Iran recently. But even Prime Minister
00:28:37.980 --> 00:28:42.700
Netanyahu said he commended all of the military
00:28:42.700 --> 00:28:45.500
that were involved and all of the spies that
00:28:45.500 --> 00:28:48.779
were involved. And the coordination was incredible
00:28:48.779 --> 00:28:52.339
between them all. But he said that it was God
00:28:52.339 --> 00:28:56.230
that helped them and gave them the victory. So
00:28:56.230 --> 00:28:58.690
the God of Israel is still the God of Israel,
00:28:58.829 --> 00:29:01.829
and thank God for a prime minister that's willing
00:29:01.829 --> 00:29:05.430
to say so. But if you look at Deuteronomy 11,
00:29:05.789 --> 00:29:10.289
22 and 23, what does that say? For if you carefully
00:29:10.289 --> 00:29:12.869
keep all these commandments which I command you
00:29:12.869 --> 00:29:15.970
to do, to love the Lord your God, to walk in
00:29:15.970 --> 00:29:19.549
all his ways, and to hold fast to him, then the
00:29:19.549 --> 00:29:22.049
Lord will drive out all these nations from before
00:29:22.049 --> 00:29:25.769
you, and you will dispossess greater. And mightier
00:29:25.769 --> 00:29:30.410
nations than yourselves. Precisely. So it doesn't
00:29:30.410 --> 00:29:34.210
matter if we are smaller. It doesn't matter if
00:29:34.210 --> 00:29:37.269
we are weaker. It doesn't matter what it looks
00:29:37.269 --> 00:29:42.710
like. The idea is go low, take that lower place,
00:29:42.910 --> 00:29:47.069
and magnify God rather than your enemy. That's
00:29:47.069 --> 00:29:50.630
for sure. And David did that. So I don't know
00:29:50.630 --> 00:29:52.750
that everybody on the planet knows the story
00:29:52.750 --> 00:29:54.390
of David and Goliath, but a whole lot of people
00:29:54.390 --> 00:29:57.950
do. And remember that he was the youngest among
00:29:57.950 --> 00:30:02.089
his brothers. When Samuel went to anoint a king
00:30:02.089 --> 00:30:05.589
out of Jesse's house, he looked at all these
00:30:05.589 --> 00:30:09.009
good -looking boys, and he looked at the eldest,
00:30:09.049 --> 00:30:11.549
and he said, surely this is God's anointed, and
00:30:11.549 --> 00:30:14.150
God said, nope. Nope, not him. And he went down
00:30:14.150 --> 00:30:18.109
the line, and God said no to all of them. And
00:30:18.109 --> 00:30:21.529
so Samuel said to Jesse, well, are these all
00:30:21.529 --> 00:30:24.970
your sons? Because God had told him, you'll find
00:30:24.970 --> 00:30:27.549
the one I want to anoint among Jesse's sons.
00:30:27.670 --> 00:30:30.789
Well, there's the youngest. The runt. Yeah, the
00:30:30.789 --> 00:30:33.230
runt of the litter. That means the smallest of
00:30:33.230 --> 00:30:37.190
the puppies or whatever litter of little animals
00:30:37.190 --> 00:30:39.789
that has just been born. The runt is the little
00:30:39.789 --> 00:30:42.890
one. And it's possible, it's not real clear,
00:30:42.950 --> 00:30:46.089
but it's possible that David might have had a
00:30:46.089 --> 00:30:48.759
different mother. than the rest of his brothers.
00:30:49.000 --> 00:30:52.880
And so he really was a reject. He really wasn't
00:30:52.880 --> 00:30:56.079
like everybody else. And, you know, he was a
00:30:56.079 --> 00:30:58.960
redhead, I think. At least it says that he was
00:30:58.960 --> 00:31:01.240
ruddy. And I'm pretty sure that that means he
00:31:01.240 --> 00:31:04.420
was a redhead. And so he didn't look the same
00:31:04.420 --> 00:31:07.539
as his brothers. He didn't sound the same. But
00:31:07.539 --> 00:31:10.559
he had been hanging out there among the sheep
00:31:10.559 --> 00:31:17.059
and worshiping God. Worshiping. Worshiping. The
00:31:17.059 --> 00:31:20.259
shepherd, you know, he's out there among the
00:31:20.259 --> 00:31:22.819
sheep and he recognizes that he's just like a
00:31:22.819 --> 00:31:26.380
little lamb himself. And he's leaning on the
00:31:26.380 --> 00:31:28.700
shepherd and trusting the shepherd to take care
00:31:28.700 --> 00:31:32.619
of him and to do for him what he was doing for
00:31:32.619 --> 00:31:35.519
his sheep. He had a relationship with God. So
00:31:35.519 --> 00:31:38.660
now he's anointed. Yeah. I remember that time
00:31:38.660 --> 00:31:42.279
we were at our house that we used to rent up
00:31:42.279 --> 00:31:45.380
in the Galilee. Oh, yeah. And all of a sudden,
00:31:45.380 --> 00:31:48.880
here's this. There's these flocks of sheep. Going
00:31:48.880 --> 00:31:50.579
through the streets. Going through the streets.
00:31:50.640 --> 00:31:53.140
And the guy blows his little whistle, you know,
00:31:53.200 --> 00:31:57.220
and they just follow him. They know the shepherd.
00:31:57.339 --> 00:31:59.799
They trust the shepherd. Yep. I mean, they could
00:31:59.799 --> 00:32:01.559
all outnumber him and beat him up, you know.
00:32:02.000 --> 00:32:03.740
If that were their nature. If that was their
00:32:03.740 --> 00:32:06.240
nature. But the sheep don't have a nature like
00:32:06.240 --> 00:32:10.259
that. No. They're dependent. Again, it's another
00:32:10.259 --> 00:32:13.380
picture of go low. Yeah. You're a sheep. You're
00:32:13.380 --> 00:32:17.240
not a lion. You're not a wolf. You're a sheep.
00:32:17.700 --> 00:32:21.819
Yeah. I remember the story of the house we were
00:32:21.819 --> 00:32:25.599
at up in Vancouver, and the sheep crossed this
00:32:25.599 --> 00:32:28.420
little bridge to go to their area. Before he
00:32:28.420 --> 00:32:31.299
came back, he had painted it red. And the sheep
00:32:31.299 --> 00:32:33.220
came, and they look at that bridge. It was the
00:32:33.220 --> 00:32:35.759
same bridge, but it was different. It was painted
00:32:35.759 --> 00:32:38.880
red. So instead of crossing the bridge, they
00:32:38.880 --> 00:32:42.339
went through the water to get to the other side
00:32:42.339 --> 00:32:45.000
instead of crossing the bridge. Yeah. Because
00:32:45.000 --> 00:32:47.420
it was not familiar. They're not so bright. Not
00:32:47.420 --> 00:32:51.759
so bright. Just not so bright. Yeah. So David
00:32:51.759 --> 00:32:55.059
had this relationship with God and he was a worshiper.
00:32:55.200 --> 00:32:59.740
Yeah. And he trusted his shepherd like the sheep
00:32:59.740 --> 00:33:02.880
were trusting him. And then he had this experience
00:33:02.880 --> 00:33:06.099
with dealing with a lion and a bear. So, you
00:33:06.099 --> 00:33:11.140
know, he knew that God's going to take care of
00:33:11.140 --> 00:33:13.740
him in the same way he's taking care of his sheep.
00:33:14.240 --> 00:33:16.720
So he has this experience of dealing with the
00:33:16.720 --> 00:33:19.859
lion and the bear, and now he's got the anointing.
00:33:20.339 --> 00:33:24.640
Samuel has anointed him. So as he went to visit
00:33:24.640 --> 00:33:28.079
his brothers on the battlefield and discovers
00:33:28.079 --> 00:33:32.740
that there's no battle going on because there's
00:33:32.740 --> 00:33:36.480
this challenge from Goliath, one of the giants,
00:33:36.700 --> 00:33:40.700
you know. David had everything in him from all
00:33:40.700 --> 00:33:43.339
those things I just described. He had everything
00:33:43.339 --> 00:33:46.200
in him to be fearless because he could already
00:33:46.200 --> 00:33:48.779
deal with a lion and a bear. That's pretty strong
00:33:48.779 --> 00:33:51.940
stuff. Yeah, and this is probably, I would think
00:33:51.940 --> 00:33:54.920
this would be more like a mountain lion. We think
00:33:54.920 --> 00:33:58.559
of a lion like an African lion. Of course, it's
00:33:58.559 --> 00:34:00.539
part of Africa. Yeah, I'm thinking it's probably
00:34:00.539 --> 00:34:01.859
an African lion. Yeah, it very well could. It's
00:34:01.859 --> 00:34:04.400
just the terrain was, there were forests and
00:34:04.400 --> 00:34:07.549
woods back then. Right. So it'd be a regular
00:34:07.549 --> 00:34:11.610
lion that has the big mane. It's true. Good question.
00:34:11.909 --> 00:34:16.389
Yeah. So he wasn't only fearless because of his
00:34:16.389 --> 00:34:22.269
experiences, but he was also incensed at this
00:34:22.269 --> 00:34:28.150
giant who was taunting the armies of his God,
00:34:28.409 --> 00:34:32.769
the armies of the God of Israel. Who are you?
00:34:32.769 --> 00:34:36.880
Who do you think you are? Yeah. And he was probably
00:34:36.880 --> 00:34:42.179
not even such a big guy compared to others. Now,
00:34:42.199 --> 00:34:44.440
we know that Saul was head and shoulders above
00:34:44.440 --> 00:34:47.039
everybody else. So we know that David was smaller
00:34:47.039 --> 00:34:49.400
than him because he couldn't wear his armor and
00:34:49.400 --> 00:34:52.400
he hadn't tried it anyway. So, you know, he's
00:34:52.400 --> 00:34:55.139
a smaller guy. So you're looking at the small
00:34:55.139 --> 00:34:58.039
guy. You're looking at the youngest guy. He was
00:34:58.039 --> 00:35:02.219
just a youth in the eyes of Goliath. And Goliath
00:35:02.219 --> 00:35:06.469
is cursing him by his gods. Oh, well, that just
00:35:06.469 --> 00:35:10.929
incensed David, because David knows how great
00:35:10.929 --> 00:35:14.409
his God is. He knows the stories of what happened
00:35:14.409 --> 00:35:17.610
in Egypt. He knows the stories of what happened
00:35:17.610 --> 00:35:20.210
when Joshua and the children of Israel were taking
00:35:20.210 --> 00:35:24.389
over the land and possessing it. He knows these
00:35:24.389 --> 00:35:28.469
things, and he knows how great God is, and that
00:35:28.469 --> 00:35:31.710
the gods of the Philistines are nothing. Absolutely
00:35:31.710 --> 00:35:34.650
nothing. Absolutely nothing. So here's the small
00:35:34.650 --> 00:35:38.420
guy. going after the big guy. He's not even concerned
00:35:38.420 --> 00:35:42.219
that he's the small guy. He is fully aware of
00:35:42.219 --> 00:35:45.619
how great his God is. And that's what gave him
00:35:45.619 --> 00:35:48.900
the victory. He didn't see a greater foe. He
00:35:48.900 --> 00:35:52.260
saw a target he couldn't miss. Hallelujah. Yeah.
00:35:53.719 --> 00:35:56.800
So here's another picture of something small
00:35:56.800 --> 00:36:01.679
becoming great. And that is in Mark 4, 30 to
00:36:01.679 --> 00:36:06.269
32. Then he said, To what shall we liken the
00:36:06.269 --> 00:36:09.090
kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we
00:36:09.090 --> 00:36:12.030
picture it? It is like a mustard seed, which
00:36:12.030 --> 00:36:14.849
when it is sown on the ground is smaller than
00:36:14.849 --> 00:36:17.630
all the seeds of the earth. But when it is sown,
00:36:17.630 --> 00:36:19.969
it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs
00:36:19.969 --> 00:36:23.269
and shoots out large branches so that the birds
00:36:23.269 --> 00:36:26.829
of the air may nest under its shade. Yeah. So
00:36:26.829 --> 00:36:31.599
we have seen this plant. It's not the mustard
00:36:31.599 --> 00:36:34.780
seed like you see in all the little necklaces
00:36:34.780 --> 00:36:38.139
that have a mustard seed like you get when you
00:36:38.139 --> 00:36:40.900
buy a package of mustard seed in the grocery
00:36:40.900 --> 00:36:44.260
store. No, these are tiny. Tiny, tiny, tiny.
00:36:44.460 --> 00:36:47.619
And I think we'll put a picture of that on the
00:36:47.619 --> 00:36:51.260
graphic for this episode. Because I've got a
00:36:51.260 --> 00:36:55.480
picture that we took in Israel of this tiny,
00:36:55.579 --> 00:36:59.000
tiny... tiny bunch of little seeds that come
00:36:59.000 --> 00:37:02.539
from a pod that comes from something that well
00:37:02.539 --> 00:37:05.400
the one that we saw was quite small in comparison
00:37:05.400 --> 00:37:08.440
but it was taller than you yeah and i've seen
00:37:08.440 --> 00:37:14.059
pictures of this enormous bushy like plant i'm
00:37:14.059 --> 00:37:16.860
not sure i would call it a tree but i would call
00:37:16.860 --> 00:37:20.309
it at least An enormous bush. Yeah. Enormous.
00:37:20.309 --> 00:37:22.730
Like, you see a picture of somebody standing
00:37:22.730 --> 00:37:26.050
in front of it, and maybe we'll find a link to
00:37:26.050 --> 00:37:28.269
one of those pictures and put that in the show
00:37:28.269 --> 00:37:30.949
notes. A man standing underneath it, and the
00:37:30.949 --> 00:37:32.690
thing is three or four times higher than him.
00:37:32.829 --> 00:37:38.269
Wow. Enormous. But it starts small. So you go
00:37:38.269 --> 00:37:42.889
low, and you see yourself as the smallest. Maybe
00:37:42.889 --> 00:37:45.849
you already see yourself as the smallest. And
00:37:45.849 --> 00:37:48.860
you think, how can God use me? Well, if you see
00:37:48.860 --> 00:37:51.099
yourself as the smallest, you are way ahead of
00:37:51.099 --> 00:37:54.500
everybody else who thinks they're great. So I'm
00:37:54.500 --> 00:37:57.320
thinking about the episode that we did a few
00:37:57.320 --> 00:38:00.400
weeks ago with James Watini. You know, he started
00:38:00.400 --> 00:38:04.599
out as this youngster that the only thing that
00:38:04.599 --> 00:38:09.000
his mother called him was boy. And all his life
00:38:09.000 --> 00:38:12.699
he's been called James or Jim. And when he turns
00:38:12.699 --> 00:38:15.500
80, he discovers that that's not even his name,
00:38:15.679 --> 00:38:18.239
that his name is different. But in the meantime,
00:38:18.440 --> 00:38:21.860
God has done something with this young man that
00:38:21.860 --> 00:38:25.780
was a child that was rejected. He was just rejected,
00:38:26.019 --> 00:38:28.219
rejected, rejected, went through the foster care
00:38:28.219 --> 00:38:32.239
system. Oh, it was terrible. And he found Jesus.
00:38:33.079 --> 00:38:37.239
And Jesus turned him into this amazing, compassionate
00:38:37.239 --> 00:38:41.989
man who sees himself low. He knows how to go
00:38:41.989 --> 00:38:45.050
low because his God is so big. His relationship
00:38:45.050 --> 00:38:49.969
with his father is so big. Awesome. Awesome.
00:38:51.130 --> 00:38:55.929
So the whole point of this is go low. And don't
00:38:55.929 --> 00:38:58.530
despise the day of small things. You may see
00:38:58.530 --> 00:39:01.130
yourself as small. It's good if you see yourself
00:39:01.130 --> 00:39:03.409
as small. And if you see yourself as big, it's
00:39:03.409 --> 00:39:07.550
time to go low. Because pride will only take
00:39:07.550 --> 00:39:11.769
you where you do not want to go. Humility will
00:39:11.769 --> 00:39:14.190
take you where you want to go. You go low. I
00:39:14.190 --> 00:39:15.750
mean, that's how you keep your head from being
00:39:15.750 --> 00:39:18.510
shot off in a battle. You go low, right? You
00:39:18.510 --> 00:39:20.710
crawl along the ground and you keep your head
00:39:20.710 --> 00:39:23.849
down so you don't get shot. If you stand up,
00:39:23.889 --> 00:39:27.329
boom, you're a casualty. This is where God wants
00:39:27.329 --> 00:39:32.170
us to learn to go low and see ourselves as servants
00:39:32.170 --> 00:39:37.590
of all. So in Zechariah 4 .10, it says, who has
00:39:37.590 --> 00:39:41.019
despised the day of small things? And this is
00:39:41.019 --> 00:39:44.039
right in that area of the scripture where it
00:39:44.039 --> 00:39:48.139
says, it's not by might and it's not by power,
00:39:48.239 --> 00:39:53.440
but it's by my spirit. So it's not the greatness
00:39:53.440 --> 00:39:57.480
of your army. It's not the greatness of your
00:39:57.480 --> 00:40:00.739
politics. It's not the greatness of your economy.
00:40:01.139 --> 00:40:05.820
It's the greatness of your God. So you can start
00:40:05.820 --> 00:40:08.500
small. The context of this is when they were
00:40:08.500 --> 00:40:11.039
rebuilding the temple after they came back from
00:40:11.039 --> 00:40:14.400
Babylon. And they're looking at this small thing.
00:40:14.539 --> 00:40:16.780
The temple was much smaller that they built.
00:40:17.119 --> 00:40:20.019
And then Herod embellished it and made it the
00:40:20.019 --> 00:40:23.199
second temple that we see as being wonderful
00:40:23.199 --> 00:40:26.320
and beautiful and great like Solomon's. But this
00:40:26.320 --> 00:40:30.320
day of small things. Would you read that, the
00:40:30.320 --> 00:40:33.550
New Living Translation? Do not despise these
00:40:33.550 --> 00:40:36.449
small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see
00:40:36.449 --> 00:40:39.570
the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's
00:40:39.570 --> 00:40:43.969
hand. Yeah. So Zerubbabel was the governor at
00:40:43.969 --> 00:40:48.110
the time, and he was given the charge to rebuild
00:40:48.110 --> 00:40:51.070
the temple. And he started it and got stopped
00:40:51.070 --> 00:40:55.570
for 16 years. So there's that day of small things.
00:40:55.769 --> 00:40:58.510
All we've got here is a foundation. We didn't
00:40:58.510 --> 00:41:02.230
get very far. And get mocked. Yeah. And there's
00:41:02.230 --> 00:41:04.750
this discouragement. Yeah. Terrible discouragement.
00:41:04.949 --> 00:41:10.570
Maybe you have been given words of greatness
00:41:10.570 --> 00:41:14.550
of what you're going to be in God. And you haven't
00:41:14.550 --> 00:41:17.710
seen it happen yet. You've had visions. You've
00:41:17.710 --> 00:41:19.809
had dreams of what God's going to do with your
00:41:19.809 --> 00:41:23.550
life. And it hasn't happened yet. But I'm telling
00:41:23.550 --> 00:41:26.469
you, we are on the verge of an outpouring of
00:41:26.469 --> 00:41:29.860
the Holy Spirit. Like it's never been seen on
00:41:29.860 --> 00:41:32.219
the planet before. Every other outpouring we've
00:41:32.219 --> 00:41:36.460
ever seen is an outpouring that is a picture
00:41:36.460 --> 00:41:41.679
of what's coming. Bigger, greater, greater than
00:41:41.679 --> 00:41:44.159
anything ever before because our God is so great.
00:41:44.360 --> 00:41:49.860
Yes, amen. And so we are standing in this place
00:41:49.860 --> 00:41:54.969
waiting for what's coming. And in the meantime,
00:41:55.130 --> 00:42:00.050
we're learning, we're equipping with the mindset
00:42:00.050 --> 00:42:04.469
of going low, of taking that place of humility,
00:42:04.789 --> 00:42:07.969
of taking that place of servanthood, of taking
00:42:07.969 --> 00:42:11.429
that place of keeping our eyes on the greatness
00:42:11.429 --> 00:42:16.070
of our God. The task seems daunting. You know,
00:42:16.110 --> 00:42:18.090
you look at the condition of the world and all
00:42:18.090 --> 00:42:19.849
the things that are going on, the condition of
00:42:19.849 --> 00:42:23.130
whatever nation you're in, and it's like, I can't
00:42:23.130 --> 00:42:27.269
see how this could be. And yet our God is so
00:42:27.269 --> 00:42:31.469
great. Yes. And he's just challenging us to look
00:42:31.469 --> 00:42:37.059
at his greatness. see ourselves in the shadow
00:42:37.059 --> 00:42:40.519
of his greatness and how he just really wants
00:42:40.519 --> 00:42:46.079
to co -operate with us and use us in the days
00:42:46.079 --> 00:42:48.739
to come. But he wants us to understand the importance
00:42:48.739 --> 00:42:51.579
of going low, the importance of being humble.
00:42:51.659 --> 00:42:55.340
So Father, we just thank you for this word reminding
00:42:55.340 --> 00:43:00.280
us of the importance of your greatness, your
00:43:00.280 --> 00:43:04.929
glory, your power. Your awesome miracles that
00:43:04.929 --> 00:43:07.570
you've done over and over and the things that
00:43:07.570 --> 00:43:11.429
you're about to do are even greater. Who's greater?
00:43:11.829 --> 00:43:16.429
You are. And because we are your people, even
00:43:16.429 --> 00:43:19.949
though we are small, you can use us to do great
00:43:19.949 --> 00:43:23.949
things. Like you promised us, Jesus, that those
00:43:23.949 --> 00:43:27.250
who believe in you would do your works and greater
00:43:27.250 --> 00:43:31.190
works. We thank you for empowering us to do this
00:43:31.190 --> 00:43:35.429
as we keep our eyes on you. In Jesus' name, amen.

00:44:12.500 --> 00:44:15.199
Philip Buss. God bless you with His overwhelming,
00:44:15.400 --> 00:44:16.380
loving presence.
