(290) “From Faith to Faith, Glory to Glory, Miracle to Miracle” with Teri Maher

After six years, the Busses are excited to finally be back in Jerusalem! Joining them on this excursion is a new friend, Teri Maher, and she has a powerful testimony. Teri was raised in an unchurched household, and in her early forties after five failed marriages, Teri surrendered her life to Jesus. Teri’s faith journey led her into a radical transformation that was evident to those around her. Through Teri’s creative “jack-of-all-trades” mentality, God has opened countless ministry opportunities for her and her husband, eventually leading to starting a church in the marketplace and seeing powerful miracles of healing, provision, and even raising the dead! You’ll be encouraged and filled with faith by Teri’s amazing testimonies.

00 So the ambulance people come in. She had set up. She said, I don't want to go in the ambulance. I'm okay. And I said, no, you go. You go and get checked out and, you know, give us a call. She goes with the ambulance, goes to the hospital. Every illness that she had was healed. Glory to God. Her heart was healed. Dysphagia was healed. Glory to God. And her life changed. God promises in Joel 2 .28 to pour out His Spirit on all humanity.

41 Welcome to Global Outpouring, where we contend for that promise outpouring, we equip for that outpouring, so that we may engage in that very outpouring. I'm Philip Buss. And I'm Sharon Buss. Welcome to the podcast today. We're so glad that you're with us. We have with us a lady that's becoming a good friend and she's here with us in Jerusalem. We're actually recording here in Jerusalem and we're excited to be here. We want to encourage you, listener, that you can gain some faith from her testimony. Thanks so much for joining us today. We're so glad that you're with us. And we're looking forward to this opportunity to reach into your life with this podcast and bring you something that is going to build you up in your faith, to build you up, to equip you for the outpouring, because God is using Terry in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in her town.

53 Share it with somebody that you know that's hungry for God. So Terry, this is our first time together. We haven't met you before this trip and you're here with us with Dean Braxton and we are seeing things. The reason why we're here and we're going to do a podcast with Dean soon here. Because of his experience in heaven, where he was outside of his body for an hour and 45 minutes, he saw things in heaven. He went to be with the Father and Jesus in heaven. And he saw things there that he said that he knew that the Jewish people would understand. And he wanted to come here and see things and hear things and learn things, not because of... the reason most of us want to come to Israel, you know, because the Bible comes alive for sure. But the things that he saw in heaven are starting to make sense to him.

48 And so we're looking forward to the opportunity to interview him. But in the meantime, we've met you and you came with his team and you're one of the intercessors and really you're a pastor, you're an apostle. So we just welcome you onto the Global Outpouring Podcast. I am honored to be here, Sharon, and it's great getting to know you. It's always nice to meet brothers and sisters in the Lord. Amen. Amen. That's for sure. So you were telling us stories at the breakfast table the other day about your walk of faith and how you got started. Tell us about what was your childhood like? Were you raised in the church?

30 What was your experience as a child? My parents divorced when I was young. So I had a stepfather. I was raised with a stepfather and a mother. As the children, my mother and my stepfather went to church, which is very interesting. They had this idea that when I got older, I could make my own decision where I would go to church. And so I went to church with friends, special traditional church events and things like that. So basically I was... unchurched until i was a teenager okay and i was never really belonged to any church i i would say my family my immediate family had a casual knowledge of god but i certainly had no relationship and i had no understanding or insights of god okay then what happened like you became an adult and well i until the age of 42 i married and divorced Oh, my goodness.

34 And how many times? I'm married for the sixth time. So I was divorced five times. Wow. In and out of marriages. And I was trying to find my way in life the only way I knew how. I had a very good mother. Mom worked hard to take care of us. But she also didn't have that real submitted relationship with the Lord. Yeah. But she did the best she could do with us children. And so we went just trying to do life on our own, you know. So say I was lost, you know. I was lost. And we're just trying to live in the world. Trying to stay ahead. Just trying to survive. Trying to be somebody. Trying to be somebody. Who am I going to be? Yeah, so 42 years. I had different careers also. I was a hairdresser. I was a nurse.

29 Wow. Jack of all trades, master of none is what I say. I was just trying to survive and be successful on my own. Okay. And you had children. I have six daughters. I'm married, very happily married, blessed. The marriage is blessed of the Lord. My husband and I both love the Lord and walk in his ways now and raise our children that way. When I got saved, three children were at home and three had left. Wow. And I can tell you as a mother, when I read the Bible, how guilty I felt when I learned in the word that we are responsible for our children, you know, to know the word and to teach it to our children. And I felt very guilty. But the Lord restored that too. He's so good. He is so faithful. So what did Tom say about being your sixth husband? Yes, I was telling, sharing with you that he told me he was the...

28 curse stopper on divorce. Isn't that great? The curse stopper. I love that. Stop this thing. But you must have been a believer by the time you met him. A baby Christian. A baby Christian. Yeah. He went to church all his life, believed there was a God, but he had not really submitted his life to the Lord. Okay. And I had joined a church when I met him and I was learning. I was just a baby Christian. I was reading the word. I'd been reading the word for about a year before I met him. And he went to church. So at that time, to me, that was, you know, that was a Christian. And we got together and I started reading the Bible. When I started reading the Bible and believing the Bible and then reading the word and doing the word, when I applied it, things started to change at that point in my life. Things started to get transformed. Okay.

21 And then what happened? So three of my children had left home, three were still there, and they were watching what I was doing, which has impacted their lives. Sure. So at home, I started reading the Word, and I just decided to believe that it was true. Yeah, because it is. You know, I've learned that faith really is a... decision that God's word is true. You make a decision. It's the best decision I've ever made in my life is to decide that God's word is true. And I started to apply it to my life in my home. What I was learning, I was so excited about what I was learning that I would start sharing it everywhere I went.

05 I'd be so excited about, I was reading in the word, it was giving me hope and encouragement. And I was like, the Lord says, you know, I'm blessed of him. And, you know, there's benefits. And so I started, I got hungry for everything that he would want me to have. And so I started studying and reading and praying. So I did that for about three years. Because right before I did that, I was feeling like a failure, unloved. I had gone to church for four or five years with my husband. Nothing was changing. In the way of feeling love or peace and joy, I was thinking I've gone to church all these years. Why aren't I changing? And living 42 years without knowing who you are in Christ, I had come to a place in my life where I even thought about suicide.

09 Because everything in my life was deteriorating. It was going downhill. to a point where I couldn't pay my bills. I couldn't take care of the children with their clothing. Everything that I needed, it was getting harder and harder. So I cried out to God at home. I started asking the Lord. I said, God, one day I was crying on the kitchen floor on my knees. I was crying out to God. I said, God, if you're real, I need to know because... I don't think I'm good for anyone. I don't think I'm good for my children. I don't know how to help my husband. I don't know how to, you know, I just, I don't know what to do. I'm tired of living like this. I had really gotten to a place where I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. And so when I called out to the Lord for help, I experienced his presence. He showed up in my kitchen and there was an awareness. of his presence, a love that I had never felt in my life. I knew in that moment that he was real and I was going to be okay. Wow. And so I got up and I went over to this book I was reading.

26 And in the book, it said, submission into a relationship. Being submitted to the Lord is through a relationship. with Jesus. And so I started diving into that. And I found out that when I submitted to the Father and Jesus and learned to trust Him, no matter what's going on, things started to change. So I was going to a church at the time. As I started sharing with the people around me in church, They wanted to know more. Where'd you get that? So that developed into a Bible study in my home. Wow. And it was mainly family and a few friends. And they were coming. And so then that was growing. And so I took it to my church and I said, I'd like to help out here in the church, have a women's Bible study. And it was a traditional church. And they said, no, I couldn't do that. So I kept it in my head. But you already were doing it, right? I was doing it anyway.

30 People in the church were following me to my car and asking me questions because they were seeing my life change. Wow. They were seeing a whole different person, the way I talked. And, you know, my reputation was turning around. People are just seeing. a different person. They were asking me questions. So a few years later, my husband and I left that church, not because of them, but because the Lord, I had dreams and visions. The more I read the Bible and applied it to my life, I came into hearing from God. I heard him. He talked to me through the word, through dreams and visions. And so one thing led to another. I was a hairdresser at the time.

17 And I had a dream of a Christian bookstore. Oh, this is good. This is good. I'm loving this story. I've seen shelves with Bibles on them. And I was like, what? You know, I'm cutting hair. And in my salon, it was turning into because. As a hairdresser, when women are in your chair, they get relaxed. They start telling you their problems. It's true. I was taking them all to the Word of God. Good for you. You were pastoring in your salon. I was. Yes. And people, I believe they started feeling beautiful on the inside. Glory to God. Oh, yes. And so my salon actually turned into a Bible study. Beautiful. The people's hair that I would do, they started coming and we would. We would have Bible studies. And so I have this vision of books. And I told my husband, I told him, I said, I believe we're supposed to open up a Christian bookstore. And at the time, he was a very new believer. And I said, I want to buy a building. I had rented all my life, my career. I had rented and it was like the Lord was showing me that I could own. And if I owned all those years I'd rented. Yeah.

39 So he was financially teaching me. He was teaching me in every area of my life. And I started applying it. So I have this dream. I tell my husband about it. He said, I'm not supporting this. And I said, well, honey, how about if we pray together? And if I get the loan, if I go to the bank, get the loan for this building and this Christian bookstore. He said, yes, if you get it, but you can't get it without my signature because of your reputation and your financial. I was $40 ,000 in debt when I came to know the Lord. Oh, my. Yes. But he had already gotten me out of that debt at this time. Wow. The Lord had showed me a way and all that. I don't owe no man anything. Glory to God.

25 Praise the Lord. He restores finances, everything. So I told my husband, I'm going to the bank. I went to the bank, and I told the banker that I'd had this vision. God sent me in here, and I felt like I was going to hyperventilate. But I was just doing what I believed the Lord was leading me to do. I went ahead and thought to myself, well, he says no. The banker will say no. I was even doubting, and God still worked with me. So I was like, it'll be over. I'll go in. I'll just do it. Because I had this urgency that this is what the Lord wanted me to do. And so I go in, and I'm sitting across from the banker, and I tell him I just blamed it on God. I said, I'm here because the Lord has sent me, and this is what I'm wanting to do. And he said, well, Terry, if God told you to do this, then who am I to say no to God? Wow. And I was really shocked myself. Yeah, I'm sure. You know, because I hadn't seen amazing things yet. I had seen some, seen some, but seeing how good he is and how much he loves us and what he wants to do with us.

39 I hadn't come into that yet. I was coming into some of it. So I went outside to the bank. I got to take a minute, went out. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate, got some air, prayed some more, went back in. And the banker filled out all the paperwork for me. He made it really easy for me, gave me the loan that I needed to get started. And I went home and I waited till my husband was in bed because I'm like, oh, I've got to tell him I've got this loan. How's he going to react? So I couldn't sleep. I had to tell him. Because we didn't keep secrets from each other. You know, we were really close. I shook him, and at 2 in the morning, I woke him up. At 2 in the morning? I said, I've got something to tell you. And he's like, what, what? You know, he's half asleep. And I said, no, we really got to talk about it. At 2 o 'clock in the morning?

40 I can tell he just wants me to leave him alone. Sure. But I said. Hey, Tom, I went to the bank today. Okay. And I said, yes. And I got the loan and I am opening up that Christian bookstore. And he sat straight up in bed and really serious. He said, there is a God. I love it. If you could get a loan on your own. You see, the Lord was with me. I wasn't getting it alone. Yeah. I was trusting him. The banker really was giving God the loan. Yes. He really was. Yes, he was. Because he was going on the fact that you heard from God. Yes, he was. He was. And so we got that, and I opened up that bookstore. And when I put the key in the door to walk in, the next -door neighbor, because it's downtown in a historic area, the neighbor met me. And he said, Christians don't belong on this block. So I knew I was in the right place. So it was downtown Hannibal, Missouri, in a historic district where people from all over the world traveled to see Mark Twain, to tour Mark Twain things. And that's where my ministry started, right there. church in the marketplace in that building. For 10 years, I learned how to stand in faith in there. All

13 kinds of people, the workers, anyone we hired, we ministered to. God used that place. The people that were coming out of jail, they had to be on probation and they had to go work somewhere. Well, they all came to me. They came in there. I had a large stack of papers of how many people came in there, and they gave their hearts to the Lord. They came in there, and they would work for us. We'd teach them to pray, teach them to budget, get them to church. We started church right there, right there in that building. We had eight the first service, and it just kept doubling each time. We did that for 10 years.

03 And then the Lord gave me a vision, another one. And it was a church building. And a lady come to see me one Sunday. We were having church right there in the marketplace. And here comes two ladies from a church. They had gotten down to like eight people. Eight people in their church. And they were going to close the doors. But she had a word from the Lord. And she didn't know me. The Lord told her to come get me. Said my name. She's like. I don't know her, and she's not a pastor that I know of in the area. So they come busting in our service at the very end and told me what they'd heard, and I'd seen a vision of a church, and it was that building. Wow, look at that. Yeah. So then we had church there for three years, and it just keeps going, keeps going.

54 I'd get comfortable in one thing, and then the next thing I know, I'm the Lord's. bringing me somewhere else. Right. So those people downtown that we worked with, some of their family members were in jail. Oh, wow. So I'd go visit them in jail and lead people to the Lord there. End up in jail ministry and prison ministry. You name it. People would come in there for food and we would give them spiritual food. People would come in and go, like we have this one lady say, I have a stomach issue. I haven't been able to eat. I don't know what I can order. And so we prayed for her stomach. And so I said, now order something that you haven't been able to eat.

39 Wow. She did. She ate. She was fine. She came back later. Glory to God. Giving us testimony. So we got a lot. We got 10 years of testimonies. Wow. In that building. Basically just started reading the word and believing that it was true. And then I just started acting in the word. Yeah. And so I saw that work. And so then decided to get a house then. Oh, yeah. Tell that story. I can get a house on faith. Because you were renting the house. No, we owned it. Oh, you owned it. Okay. But it wasn't much. Oh, that's right. I remember you telling that. It wasn't much.

20 It needed a lot of work. And my husband at the time in his business really didn't have extra to do anything really with it. And I wanted everything that I had. To give God the glory, to give God glory. Yeah, because you were taking people into your home. Taking people in my home, having even people, missionaries, evangelists, people were coming to stay in my home and speak in my church. And I just wanted to provide a nice place for them. And so I started praying. And, you know, the scripture that says, if you don't ask. Right. Right. You don't have. So I asked and I believe.

01 that it was going to be mine. And I, so I started, I just went and got some boxes, came home, started packing everything. Then my husband, again, he's like, now what are you doing? He said, life with me is not boring. I'm always standing in faith for the next thing. And I believe that's why I am where I am today. Absolutely. Yeah. I just kept going. You don't want to quit. You want to have fresh testimonies. Right. Yeah, the testimony of what happened 10 years ago isn't the same as what happened last week. That's right. We should go from faith to faith and glory to glory. Absolutely. And so I saw that in my life. Yeah.

43 So to get the house, I just went and bought boxes, as many as I could find, and started packing everything. Then my husband comes home, and everything's in boxes, and he's like, what are you doing? What's going on? I said, we're moving. Oh, we are? Where are we going? I said, I don't know yet, but we need to pray. And he said, I'm not moving. I said, OK, how about we agree to disagree? Let's pray. And if the Lord shows us something, would you move then? He's like, oh, yeah, if he shows us. So together we went in prayer and we prayed and it wasn't long. Sure enough, my husband had had to dream this time. Oh, I love it. He had the dream. And he said, I know where that house is. He saw the house in the dream.

35 He didn't even know if it was for sale or not. Wow. And so he called some people that owned it. And yes, they were putting it up. It's going to be in an auction. Auction. Yeah. So before the auction, my husband and I went, prayed over the property. And at that time, you know, there just wasn't extra money. We were making it okay, just not extra to go buy a house. And I said, well, he said, what are we going to do for money? I said, well, you know, the bank of heaven is ours. I love it. You can take the word of God to the bank. I love that. That's right. Yeah.

16 So anyway, my husband and I went to this auction. And before we went, he said. OK, we need a number. We need a number to know what to bid on this house. So the Lord does. We'll give us details. He'll give us instructions. He'll show us right every step of the way. Yes. And my husband heard a number and I did, too. We both wrote it down on paper and it was the same number. Don't you love it? So we go to the option. We bid. We get close to that number. And he looks at me and he says, now what? And I just was aware of the Holy Spirit. You know, Sharon, you're aware of the Holy Spirit's with you. And I felt like we were supposed to bid one more time. I told my husband, I said, bid one more time because we were really close to that. And I was like, $500 within that number. And I said, one more time.

12 He said, really loud with the real estate there and my family watching. He said, you better be hearing from God. And so he bid one more time. We bought the property. You got it. We got it. We ran into the house and we were looking at it. My mom is there. Wasn't that part of the dream? Yeah. My husband saw my family there jumping up and down. So happy for me. Yeah. Because my family, they did okay. But I was the one in the family that had the least. Wow. Had the least. If you're going to talk about possessions, you know, I had the least. But they also had been watching you, right? Yes. Yes. They've been watching me now for several years, stand in faith. And yeah, they were watching me. And a lot of it, they weren't really believing. They were having a hard time with, but they were seeing God bless our life. And so they were there and they were watching because all along I was telling them and I looked crazy to them, packing up my house.

18 Yeah. And so they were there and they were so excited. They were jumping up and down that I had gotten a nice home and they were running in and looking at and I was with them and we're looking and my mom comes up to me and she said, Terry, you need to go check on your husband. And I said, what's the matter? He's out there under a tree. He looks like maybe he's passed out. You better go check on him. I go out there and I said, what are you doing? He's like, we just bought a house. We bought it on faith. And I said, yes. And he's like, well, how are we going to pay for it? I said, we're going to keep praying. We're going to keep praying until we close. And two weeks before the closing, we received a check in the mail. On an old, like several years before this, my husband was in a truck accident. And so we got a check from the insurance company that he had no idea he was going to get.

20 Wow. And it was enough to pay for the house. The whole house? Yeah, it was all paid. Wow. At the closing. At the closing. At the closing. And enough left over to pay for some furniture. Glory to God. Yes. Yes. So, you know, I've seen the Lord do magnificent things in my life. Right. And that all came from reading his words, submitting my life to the Father and Jesus and believing that his word is true. Yes. And acting on it. You know, we can't just say out of our mouth we believe the word. We have to believe it in our heart. Right. And put some action to it.

01 And so it's just been. One story after that, I received a house because I went into the jails and ministered to women. I opened up a house for women, a rehab center to teach them the word, teach them how to walk in the word. And a house was given to us. Wow. The house was just handed to me. So as you know, we walk along and if you're faithful in little things, the Lord says he'll give you. Greater things. Glory to God. So I've seen that in my life. I've even witnessed raising the dead. Tell us that one. Is it one? Is it many? No. Let's see. Many near death, getting up off their deathbed and living. But this one occasion, there's two from our ministry. So one day we're in the Christian bookstore and restaurant.

00 And a lady is sitting in a chair. She's a greeter because we took people that were sick and they couldn't hardly work, and we would help them understand God's healing and work towards that. So this one lady, there really wasn't anything in the business she could do. So we just sat her in a chair by the front door, and she greeted people. She gave in. But I was in the back in the office, and one of our workers ran to get me. And she had fallen off the chair and died. Oh, my. She had had a heart attack or a stroke or something. And she was laying on the floor. It was lunchtime. The place was full. Oh, no.

42 Yes. There was a doctor's wife at lunch. She came over, and I just scooted her out of the way. to her. My daughter's a nurse. She was on her knees and said, Mom, she had taken her pulse. There was none. She said, Mom, she's gone. I said to her, where's your faith? And so this is what I said. I said her name and I said, get up. I said, say Jesus. Well, when I did that, the lady sat up and she said, I'm hungry. Wow. Well, you know what I said? It works. That's the first time I've seen that. And I was like, I was, wow. So when she came to us, she had a heart condition. She had dysphagia, which is difficulty swallowing. Every time she tried to eat, and we would all eat together, whoever's working there that day, she would choke. She could hardly. It was hard to sit around her really when she ate. And so someone had called the ambulance, probably the doctor's wife. Probably. So the ambulance people come in. She had set up. She said, I don't want to go in the ambulance. I'm okay. And I said, no, you go. You go and get checked out. And, you know, give us a call. She

12 goes with the ambulance, goes to the hospital. Every illness that she had was healed. Glory to God. Her heart was healed. Dysphagia was healed. Glory to God. And her life changed. She started coming to church, singing in the praise and worship. Wow. So, you know, I've seen things just from faith to faith, glory to glory. That's so beautiful. Wow. I love what the Lord does. He's so faithful. He is. If we would just be faithful, you know, we would trust him. Yeah. And for me, that's a big, big one in my life is learning to trust, applying trust. Yeah. Well, when you consider that he lives inside of you and you live inside of him, it's like you're sandwiched inside of him. Amen. And he is the one that has it written on his thigh, faithful and true. Amen. Amen.

16 So if the faithful and true one lives inside of us, then he enables us to be faithful and true. That's true. You just need his spirit. Yeah. It's his spirit that will do it in us. And, you know, it's really no glory to us. None. When we simply, because all we're doing is. Getting into agreement with him. That's right. Yes, Sharon. I like to tell people, you know, when we said yes to the Lord, he moved in with himself. Yes. His presence, his gifts, and his power. Yes. And as Christians, we need to understand what we have. Right. What we have, what we can move in. Right. Absolutely. So have you written some books? I have. I have two books. Okay. Tell us about them. Okay. The first one is Saved by Grace, Established in Faith. And I asked in the beginning of my walk with Jesus, the Father and Jesus, I asked 20 questions. Okay. This is good. So I think there's 20 chapters and each is a question and the answer that I got. Wow. I think the first question I asked was, why did it take me so long to get to know you? Because I was 42 when I got saved. So I always say to people, it doesn't matter how you start. It's how you finish. So

47 I asked the Lord questions like, how can I know I'm saved? How can I know for sure? Questions like that. Usually I have my books with me. The second one is Loved by God, Healed in Truth. Good. So both books are really testimonies of me learning to hear the Lord's answers when I asked him questions and then how he changed the situation in my life. Oh, that's good. Both books are full of testimonies of growing up in the Lord, growing up in Jesus Christ. Beautiful. Beautiful. So you're still pastoring? I'm pastoring, and I've been doing some traveling in the United States first, locally. It's like it started in my kitchen. Beautiful. And then it went outside.

44 It went to downtown, and then it went into the jail, went into the hospitals, went into traveling in the States, and now international. Been to Peru twice in Finland, getting ready to go for the third time. And I got to come to beautiful Israel. Amen. Amen. I don't know, listener, if you can hear the traffic noises that we're hearing and the motorcycles and all those things. I hope they don't disturb you too much, but we're hearing it. We don't exactly have our podcast studio, but we have some equipment and we're recording this way because we wanted to be able to. bring some live activity from this trip and be able to say, hey, we are in Israel. It's taken us six and a half years to get here. We were going twice a year and sometimes more. But anyway, Terry, it's been such a pleasure to begin to get to know you. And I'm excited about your books.

47 How can people get your books? They're on Amazon. Okay. Yeah. And your name is spelled T -E -R -I -M -A -H -E -R. Correct. So that'll be in the show notes also. And what is the name of your church? True Church. True Church. Well, you know, it's about the spirit of truth. And I heard the Lord say that. Give me the name, True. Beautiful. So True Church. Yeah, the truth sets you free. That's what happened in my life, and it can happen in anyone's life. Amen. Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord, they shall be saved. Beautiful. Beautiful. So do you have a website? I do. We will put that in the show notes. Okay. So the people can click on that from the description of this podcast, of this episode. And so would you just close us out in prayer? Pray for the listeners to have, well, just pray according to the Holy Spirit. I will.

45 Sure will. Be glad to. Thank you for having me. We're so glad. Father, in the name of Jesus, Holy Ghost, Father, I petition you for every person who's listening today, every heart that needs healed, that needs encouraged, Lord, that they would hear something that would help in their struggle, in their circumstance, in their situation. Lord, because anyone who calls on you for help, you help. And I thank you, Lord, that their eyes, their ears, their hearts are opening up to hear your will for their life.

26 Lord, give us all a desire to continue to have a love, a holy love, a holy love for your will. Your will is the best way to live. That's really living. You really start living. When we develop a holy love for your will in our lives. So, Father, I thank you and I praise you for your love and your light and for life touching every person who listened today. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen.
