(294) “What Can I Do?”
What is it that God has put us here to do? We can often feel like we ought to be doing something in order to make God pleased with us. But God didn’t make us to be human doings—He made us human beings! Join the Busses for a discussion about our relationship with the Father, and how our state of being in Him affects the lasting (or not!) eternal quality of our works.
Our Father created us to be in relationship with Him, and like Jesus, without Him we can do nothing! It’s time to press into the Father like never before so that we can work with Him in all that He has for us to do in these last days.

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:04.299
So we're created for good works, unto good works,
00:00:04.400 --> 00:00:08.220
but it's not the works that define us, it's the
00:00:08.220 --> 00:00:20.059
relationship that defines us. God promises in
00:00:20.059 --> 00:00:23.839
Joel 2 .28 to pour out of His Spirit on all humanity.
00:00:24.579 --> 00:00:27.359
Welcome to Global Outpouring, where we contend
00:00:27.359 --> 00:00:29.890

outpouring so that we may engage in that very
00:00:33.250 --> 00:00:36.689

that you're with us. We're going to talk about
00:00:42.229 --> 00:00:48.429
what can I do? Or what can I do? Or what can
00:00:48.429 --> 00:00:56.609
I do? Thanks so much for joining us today. We're
00:00:56.609 --> 00:00:58.829
just delighted that you're with us, and we look
00:00:58.829 --> 00:01:02.429

00:01:02.429 --> 00:01:05.969
Word and contending for the outpouring and equipping
00:01:05.969 --> 00:01:08.609
for the outpouring so that we may engage in it.
00:01:08.709 --> 00:01:11.090
We want to invite you, before we get started,
00:01:11.250 --> 00:01:13.549
to go to our website, if you haven't already
00:01:13.549 --> 00:01:16.450
done so, and make sure that you're on our email
00:01:16.450 --> 00:01:20.299
list. teal colored button there to subscribe
00:01:20.299 --> 00:01:24.459
so that you can be on various lists that we have
00:01:24.459 --> 00:01:26.920
and we can stay in touch with you. We really
00:01:26.920 --> 00:01:30.819
want to engage with you because we want to engage
00:01:30.819 --> 00:01:33.659
together in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
00:01:33.659 --> 00:01:36.799
as God is doing that in the earth today. And
00:01:36.799 --> 00:01:39.840
we want to remind you that we have an app that
00:01:39.840 --> 00:01:42.219
you can get from your app store, the Global Outpouring
00:01:42.219 --> 00:01:45.420
app, where you can follow our podcasts and be
00:01:45.420 --> 00:01:47.859
made aware of the events that we're doing. doing
00:01:47.859 --> 00:01:51.000
and shop in our bookstore and lots and lots of
00:01:51.000 --> 00:01:53.640
things. And we even have a prayer wall where
00:01:53.640 --> 00:01:56.400
you can post your prayer requests. And that way
00:01:56.400 --> 00:01:59.680
we can stick together in the things of the Holy
00:01:59.680 --> 00:02:03.379
Spirit to accomplish what God has put us on this
00:02:03.379 --> 00:02:07.439
planet to accomplish. So I was meditating about
00:02:07.439 --> 00:02:11.099
this idea of what can I do? And I was reminded
00:02:11.099 --> 00:02:13.719
of this incident with our granddaughter when
00:02:13.719 --> 00:02:16.889
we were playing a game that It was kind of a
00:02:16.889 --> 00:02:20.629
hide and seek kind of game. And she was really
00:02:20.629 --> 00:02:23.930
little. And I could tell that she had seen something
00:02:23.930 --> 00:02:27.550
on TV or in a video or something that, you know,
00:02:27.550 --> 00:02:30.550
while we're making this big deal about this mystery
00:02:30.550 --> 00:02:33.430
and, you know, looking for something and looking
00:02:33.430 --> 00:02:35.449
for the treasure and that kind of thing. And
00:02:35.449 --> 00:02:41.050
she says, what can I do? And it was so cute.
00:02:41.289 --> 00:02:45.310
What can I do? This little tiny voice. And so.
00:02:45.680 --> 00:02:48.060
I was thinking about, you know, what is it that
00:02:48.060 --> 00:02:51.080
we can do? What is it that God put us on this
00:02:51.080 --> 00:02:54.280
planet to do? You know, it seems like we want
00:02:54.280 --> 00:02:59.120
to be doing something. But he didn't make us
00:02:59.120 --> 00:03:02.319
human doings. He made us human beings. Right,
00:03:02.360 --> 00:03:06.120
human beings. And our humanness and our beingness
00:03:06.120 --> 00:03:12.159
is because our God, our Father, is our creator.
00:03:13.240 --> 00:03:16.919
He created us to be in relationship with him.
00:03:17.460 --> 00:03:21.580
And the doing comes out of the being. It comes
00:03:21.580 --> 00:03:26.139
out of cooperating with him and doing things
00:03:26.139 --> 00:03:30.900
with him. Because we get so busy thinking about,
00:03:31.020 --> 00:03:36.919
oh, what can I do? I want to please God. I want
00:03:36.919 --> 00:03:40.699
to do something for him. And we get some grandiose
00:03:40.699 --> 00:03:46.020
ideas sometimes. I love that word. And it reminds
00:03:46.020 --> 00:03:49.280
me of this story that I heard or read about a
00:03:49.280 --> 00:03:52.360
young person that, you know, dad was going away
00:03:52.360 --> 00:03:55.479
for the day and it was a Saturday and he says,
00:03:55.520 --> 00:04:01.699
son, I want you to sweep the garage. So the son
00:04:01.699 --> 00:04:04.379
gets out there and he's thinking, I really want
00:04:04.379 --> 00:04:10.949
to please dad. Clean the garage and rearrange
00:04:10.949 --> 00:04:16.269
everything. And dad comes back and the son is
00:04:16.269 --> 00:04:17.970
working really hard. Well, if you're going to
00:04:17.970 --> 00:04:19.509
rearrange, you're going to pull everything out
00:04:19.509 --> 00:04:23.230
and you're going to make a big mess. And of course,
00:04:23.250 --> 00:04:28.670
a young person sometimes gets into a job and
00:04:28.670 --> 00:04:32.050
doesn't necessarily finish. And dad comes home
00:04:32.050 --> 00:04:37.069
and he says, son, I asked you to sweep the garage.
00:04:37.740 --> 00:04:43.740
I didn't ask you to rearrange it. But the kid's
00:04:43.740 --> 00:04:46.959
heart was in the right place. I want to do something
00:04:46.959 --> 00:04:51.800
to please you, Dad. And sometimes we get into
00:04:51.800 --> 00:04:54.279
this thing where we want to just do something.
00:04:55.540 --> 00:04:57.800
Make it better. Yeah, we're going to make it
00:04:57.800 --> 00:05:02.240
better. What can I do? Or what can I do? Or what
00:05:02.240 --> 00:05:05.540
can I do? You know, sometimes we look at ourselves
00:05:05.540 --> 00:05:10.089
and we think, eh. What can I do? I'm nobody.
00:05:10.410 --> 00:05:14.870
I'm nothing. And sometimes we also get grandiose
00:05:14.870 --> 00:05:18.649
ideas about, I can do something. I have a gift.
00:05:18.750 --> 00:05:23.790
I can do this. And we get all worked up in pride
00:05:23.790 --> 00:05:29.910
and arrogance and fall on our face. Because that's
00:05:29.910 --> 00:05:33.910
not what God asked us to do. So Ephesians chapter
00:05:33.910 --> 00:05:38.019
2 and verse 8 says, For by grace. You are saved
00:05:38.019 --> 00:05:43.560
through faith, and that not of yourselves. It
00:05:43.560 --> 00:05:47.639
is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man
00:05:47.639 --> 00:05:50.800
should boast. Pride. Pride, like, I did this.
00:05:52.240 --> 00:05:56.220
I got myself out of that hole. No, not really.
00:05:56.319 --> 00:06:01.759
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ
00:06:01.759 --> 00:06:06.540
Jesus unto good works. which God has before ordained
00:06:06.540 --> 00:06:10.319
that we should walk in them. In other words,
00:06:10.459 --> 00:06:16.100
he created us for good works as his workmanship
00:06:16.100 --> 00:06:22.120
to cooperate with him out of being, being in
00:06:22.120 --> 00:06:27.500
relationship with him. So Jesus said that of
00:06:27.500 --> 00:06:30.649
myself, I can do nothing. So if the Son of God
00:06:30.649 --> 00:06:32.829
could do nothing by himself, what are we trying
00:06:32.829 --> 00:06:34.930
to do? What were the disciples thinking when
00:06:34.930 --> 00:06:38.750
he said that? I don't know. Because here he is,
00:06:38.769 --> 00:06:41.370
and their mind's going to be the next king eventually.
00:06:41.910 --> 00:06:45.069
Right, right. And soon. And soon, yeah. They
00:06:45.069 --> 00:06:47.230
were expecting any minute he's going to just
00:06:47.230 --> 00:06:50.269
overrule the Romans, right? Yeah, because you
00:06:50.269 --> 00:06:53.110
can do miracles. And there's probably things
00:06:53.110 --> 00:06:57.810
that happened, like with regards to Roman soldiers.
00:06:58.649 --> 00:07:01.149
I remember on a, it wasn't the chosen, it was
00:07:01.149 --> 00:07:04.069
something else, where this, you know, someone
00:07:04.069 --> 00:07:08.529
was carrying something for a Roman soldier, and
00:07:08.529 --> 00:07:10.350
they're just being rough on him and all that,
00:07:10.389 --> 00:07:12.990
you know. And then all of a sudden, Jesus kind
00:07:12.990 --> 00:07:15.170
of is standing there, and the Roman soldier comes
00:07:15.170 --> 00:07:18.850
up to him, and he stops, and he just turns and
00:07:18.850 --> 00:07:21.589
backs away out of fear, you know. I thought,
00:07:21.629 --> 00:07:25.930
oh, that's kind of neat. How many things? like
00:07:25.930 --> 00:07:29.550
that happen with Roman soldiers that we don't
00:07:29.550 --> 00:07:31.990
know anything about. That's true. What does it
00:07:31.990 --> 00:07:34.449
say that the earth would not be able to hold
00:07:34.449 --> 00:07:37.870
the volumes of what Jesus did when he was on
00:07:37.870 --> 00:07:40.149
earth? Very true. That's what John said. So if
00:07:40.149 --> 00:07:43.689
he was on earth for a very short time, he did
00:07:43.689 --> 00:07:47.540
a lot of stuff. Oh, yeah. Wow. Yeah. And the
00:07:47.540 --> 00:07:49.639
thing about carrying something for a Roman soldier,
00:07:49.800 --> 00:07:53.399
Jesus said, if you're compelled to walk a mile,
00:07:53.480 --> 00:07:55.699
to carry something for a soldier, basically,
00:07:55.819 --> 00:07:58.339
if you're compelled to do that, and they were
00:07:58.339 --> 00:08:01.379
required to. They were required to carry whatever
00:08:01.379 --> 00:08:04.939
the Roman soldier said for a mile. And Jesus
00:08:04.939 --> 00:08:08.259
said, carry it two. Two miles, yeah. In other
00:08:08.259 --> 00:08:11.220
words, Jesus was trying to give the idea on earth.
00:08:11.279 --> 00:08:13.339
Remember what Dean Braxton said about in heaven.
00:08:14.170 --> 00:08:16.290
How can I serve you? Yeah, the greeting is, how
00:08:16.290 --> 00:08:20.189
can I serve you? So Jesus is trying to give us
00:08:20.189 --> 00:08:25.110
this instruction that we're here to serve. So
00:08:25.110 --> 00:08:28.870
if your enemy, the Romans were the enemies of
00:08:28.870 --> 00:08:32.950
Israel, if your enemy compels you to do something,
00:08:33.129 --> 00:08:36.950
do it twice as much for him. Yeah, and we don't
00:08:36.950 --> 00:08:39.440
have an understanding of how brutal. It was.
00:08:39.519 --> 00:08:42.879
Things really were with Rome. That's true. There's
00:08:42.879 --> 00:08:45.919
a lot of movies out there and stuff of the Nazi
00:08:45.919 --> 00:08:50.440
regime and how brutal they were to everybody.
00:08:50.820 --> 00:08:53.580
Yeah. And so when you put yourself, there's something
00:08:53.580 --> 00:08:56.279
you're looking at because you don't see movies
00:08:56.279 --> 00:09:00.460
out there of the Jewish nation. Rome is in control
00:09:00.460 --> 00:09:03.220
and they're just being brutal in a lot of ways.
00:09:03.259 --> 00:09:06.240
We don't see that. With all the stuff that's
00:09:06.240 --> 00:09:08.240
out there, what the Nazis did, we see all that.
00:09:08.419 --> 00:09:11.799
And so when you compare that to that, that's
00:09:11.799 --> 00:09:14.019
what it would kind of be like. Yeah. You know,
00:09:14.059 --> 00:09:16.860
no mercy, really. Yeah. It wasn't any mercy.
00:09:17.220 --> 00:09:22.740
So Jesus was trying to teach us about what works
00:09:22.740 --> 00:09:27.480
we're expected to do. We're expected to do things
00:09:27.480 --> 00:09:31.860
out of service. And to do things, Jesus said,
00:09:31.899 --> 00:09:35.740
love your enemies. Do good to them that hate
00:09:35.740 --> 00:09:39.600
you. Be kind to those that despitefully use you
00:09:39.600 --> 00:09:44.019
and abuse you. He's trying to teach kingdom living,
00:09:44.159 --> 00:09:47.779
the kingdom of God, the way it is in heaven.
00:09:48.440 --> 00:09:50.899
That's how we're supposed to be doing it on earth.
00:09:51.220 --> 00:09:54.720
But Jesus had this relationship with his father
00:09:54.720 --> 00:09:58.279
where he said, I can't do anything by myself.
00:09:58.559 --> 00:10:01.059
I only do what I see the father doing. Let's
00:10:01.059 --> 00:10:04.210
look at John 5. So this is the story of the man
00:10:04.210 --> 00:10:07.789
by the pool of Bethesda that Jesus healed on
00:10:07.789 --> 00:10:10.370
the Sabbath day. This is the story where, you
00:10:10.370 --> 00:10:12.929
know, these people are gathered around the pool
00:10:12.929 --> 00:10:15.789
and they're waiting for the waters to be stirred.
00:10:15.990 --> 00:10:19.789
And the first one who gets in gets healed. Yeah.
00:10:19.990 --> 00:10:22.190
At least that was the legend. That was the legend.
00:10:22.289 --> 00:10:24.629
Yeah. It could be that it was happening, but
00:10:24.629 --> 00:10:27.009
there's lots of opinions about what that is.
00:10:28.220 --> 00:10:30.299
That's not what we're doing here. Yeah, that's
00:10:30.299 --> 00:10:33.139
not the purpose of this discussion. But in verse
00:10:33.139 --> 00:10:37.399
19 of John 5, do you want to read that, Philip?
00:10:37.919 --> 00:10:41.179
So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to
00:10:41.179 --> 00:10:44.279
you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord,
00:10:44.500 --> 00:10:48.059
but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever
00:10:48.059 --> 00:10:50.799
the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
00:10:51.799 --> 00:10:54.399
For the Father loves the Son and shows him all
00:10:54.399 --> 00:10:57.919
that he himself is doing. And greater works than
00:10:57.919 --> 00:11:00.539
these will he show him so that you may marvel.
00:11:01.519 --> 00:11:03.980
Truly, truly, I say unto you, the hour is coming
00:11:03.980 --> 00:11:07.259
and is now here when the dead will hear the voice
00:11:07.259 --> 00:11:10.360
of the Son of God and those who hear will live.
00:11:10.960 --> 00:11:14.539
For as the Father has life in himself, so he
00:11:14.539 --> 00:11:17.220
has granted the Son also to have life in himself.
00:11:18.220 --> 00:11:20.919
And he has given him authority to execute judgment,
00:11:21.039 --> 00:11:25.059
because he is the Son of Man. I can do nothing
00:11:25.059 --> 00:11:28.960
on my own. As I hear, I judge. And my judgment
00:11:28.960 --> 00:11:32.000
is just, because I seek not my own will, but
00:11:32.000 --> 00:11:35.799
the will of him who sent me. So if Jesus was
00:11:35.799 --> 00:11:40.980
seeking the will of him who sent him, that is
00:11:40.980 --> 00:11:45.960
a clue for us. What can I do? I can seek what
00:11:45.960 --> 00:11:49.250
is the will of the Father. Why did Father put
00:11:49.250 --> 00:11:52.049
us here on this planet? Every single one of us
00:11:52.049 --> 00:11:55.490
has a purpose. Every single one of us has unique
00:11:55.490 --> 00:11:59.690
giftings. Every one of us thinks a little differently
00:11:59.690 --> 00:12:02.330
than others. Every one of us speaks a little
00:12:02.330 --> 00:12:04.529
differently. We use different words. We're not
00:12:04.529 --> 00:12:06.529
going to say things exactly the same because
00:12:06.529 --> 00:12:09.970
we don't think exactly the same. We don't see
00:12:09.970 --> 00:12:15.850
things exactly the same. For instance, I'm just
00:12:15.850 --> 00:12:21.460
going back. Oh, 44 years or so. Uh -oh. When
00:12:21.460 --> 00:12:25.840
we went on our extended honeymoon trip to Israel,
00:12:26.019 --> 00:12:30.379
okay, this wasn't my first trip to Israel. I
00:12:30.379 --> 00:12:32.980
had been going a few years already, but this
00:12:32.980 --> 00:12:38.539
was Philip's first trip. Oh, boy, I think I know
00:12:38.539 --> 00:12:43.620
what's coming. I'm busy looking at all this biblical
00:12:43.620 --> 00:12:46.549
stuff, and I'm looking at... and listening to
00:12:46.549 --> 00:12:49.570
the guide, and he's talking about archaeology,
00:12:49.610 --> 00:12:51.450
and he's talking about the Bible, and he's talking
00:12:51.450 --> 00:12:55.169
about, and Philip is saying, wow, look at that
00:12:55.169 --> 00:13:00.190
car. Remember what kind of cars they were? It
00:13:00.190 --> 00:13:05.029
was older. Older American cars, GMs, Fords. Yeah,
00:13:05.049 --> 00:13:07.129
you won't even see those now. No, not now. But
00:13:07.129 --> 00:13:09.710
44 years ago, they were there. Yeah. And I was
00:13:09.710 --> 00:13:13.049
like. What's the matter, you? No, I wasn't quite
00:13:13.049 --> 00:13:16.690
like that. But I was like, is that what you're
00:13:16.690 --> 00:13:20.129
seeing? My point is, we see things differently.
00:13:20.590 --> 00:13:24.149
And I was immature at this point. I hardly had
00:13:24.149 --> 00:13:26.590
been saved for how long? Yeah, just months. Not
00:13:26.590 --> 00:13:30.190
a real, real long time. Yeah, yeah. To be fair,
00:13:30.330 --> 00:13:33.970
to be fair. It takes a while to get your focus
00:13:33.970 --> 00:13:36.649
on things right. But those were the things that
00:13:36.649 --> 00:13:38.529
were impressing you in the moment. That's all
00:13:38.529 --> 00:13:41.269
I'm saying. I'm not down on you for that. But
00:13:41.269 --> 00:13:45.289
my point is, we see things differently because
00:13:45.289 --> 00:13:49.129
of where we are in our walk. You were early in
00:13:49.129 --> 00:13:52.629
your walk at that point. But the idea here is
00:13:52.629 --> 00:13:57.669
that as we grow and become more mature, more...
00:13:58.220 --> 00:14:01.480
inclined to be communicating with our Father,
00:14:01.600 --> 00:14:06.179
we're going to get more out of what He has for
00:14:06.179 --> 00:14:10.259
us. It's like, think about your destiny. You
00:14:10.259 --> 00:14:13.980
know, we hear a lot about destiny. But destiny
00:14:13.980 --> 00:14:18.320
is not a destination. Because a destination is
00:14:18.320 --> 00:14:24.039
like an end point. It's the end of a trip. But
00:14:24.039 --> 00:14:28.309
we're designed for eternity. Our destiny goes
00:14:28.309 --> 00:14:33.230
beyond, you know, beyond the grave. It goes beyond,
00:14:33.389 --> 00:14:35.950
what is it, three score years and 10 or four
00:14:35.950 --> 00:14:38.629
score years or 90 years or 120 years, however
00:14:38.629 --> 00:14:43.370
long you live. Your destiny is eternal. And the
00:14:43.370 --> 00:14:46.889
things that you learn in your walk on the planet
00:14:46.889 --> 00:14:51.789
here are significant. in your relationship with
00:14:51.789 --> 00:14:55.870
Father. So we're not trying to rearrange the
00:14:55.870 --> 00:14:59.570
garage when he asks us to sweep it. You know,
00:14:59.610 --> 00:15:04.230
your first trip to Israel was an introduction.
00:15:05.350 --> 00:15:07.809
My first trip to Israel was an introduction.
00:15:07.970 --> 00:15:10.789
You know, you weren't with me when I was on my
00:15:10.789 --> 00:15:13.610
first trip, but I was gawking at things too.
00:15:14.220 --> 00:15:16.799
And, you know, I heard the word diaspora and
00:15:16.799 --> 00:15:20.519
I had no idea what that meant. What do you mean
00:15:20.519 --> 00:15:23.259
diaspora? I've never heard that word. And, you
00:15:23.259 --> 00:15:24.960
know, for those of you who don't know what that
00:15:24.960 --> 00:15:27.980
word is, it means dispersion. It's where people
00:15:27.980 --> 00:15:31.200
have been dispersed around the world. So the
00:15:31.200 --> 00:15:34.059
Jews had been dispersed and I'd never heard that
00:15:34.059 --> 00:15:37.419
before. I learned so much. You just continue
00:15:37.419 --> 00:15:39.570
to learn. You don't quit learning. You never
00:15:39.570 --> 00:15:42.690
stop learning. Yeah. If you stop learning, you
00:15:42.690 --> 00:15:46.269
start going into not good things in your brain.
00:15:47.509 --> 00:15:50.970
You know, you start becoming a couch potato or,
00:15:51.029 --> 00:15:54.529
you know, you can even go into dementia if you
00:15:54.529 --> 00:15:56.730
stop learning. You got to keep your mind sharp.
00:15:57.049 --> 00:15:58.409
Keep your brain active. Keep your brain active.
00:15:58.570 --> 00:16:04.649
So Jesus said that he doesn't do anything. except
00:16:04.649 --> 00:16:07.950
what he sees the Father doing. And so I'm under
00:16:07.950 --> 00:16:10.889
the impression that when he got up while it was
00:16:10.889 --> 00:16:14.029
yet dark, he was getting a download from his
00:16:14.029 --> 00:16:17.450
father and seeing what was coming for the day.
00:16:17.490 --> 00:16:20.649
For the day, yeah. And when we spend time with
00:16:20.649 --> 00:16:24.230
the Lord in the morning, we're taking an opportunity
00:16:24.230 --> 00:16:28.830
to learn something and get something in relationship
00:16:28.830 --> 00:16:34.100
with him, in being. And out of the being, out
00:16:34.100 --> 00:16:37.899
of those works, I love this, we are his workmanship,
00:16:38.059 --> 00:16:42.740
created in Christ Jesus, created in the Anointed
00:16:42.740 --> 00:16:47.960
One, our Savior, for good works, unto good works.
00:16:48.200 --> 00:16:51.139
When you think of that word workmanship, you
00:16:51.139 --> 00:16:54.759
think like how something is built, like a car,
00:16:54.940 --> 00:16:59.720
how complex, like computers. How complex things
00:16:59.720 --> 00:17:03.659
are. Yeah. Humans, how complex we are. Oh, yes.
00:17:03.740 --> 00:17:06.019
How complex. It's a good thing we only have 10
00:17:06.019 --> 00:17:08.799
% of our brain in use. You know, what would have
00:17:08.799 --> 00:17:11.700
happened if we had the other 90 after the fall?
00:17:12.099 --> 00:17:15.839
Right. Yeah. So we're created for good works,
00:17:16.000 --> 00:17:20.039
unto good works. But it's not the works that
00:17:20.039 --> 00:17:23.420
define us. It's the relationship that defines
00:17:23.420 --> 00:17:29.839
us. So Jesus went on in John 15. talking about
00:17:29.839 --> 00:17:33.740
being the true vine and we're the branches. Do
00:17:33.740 --> 00:17:35.960
you want to read that? John 15, 1 through 17.
00:17:37.000 --> 00:17:40.019
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
00:17:40.740 --> 00:17:43.220
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
00:17:43.319 --> 00:17:46.279
he takes away, and every branch that does bear
00:17:46.279 --> 00:17:48.740
fruit, he prunes. Can I just interject something
00:17:48.740 --> 00:17:52.140
here? Remember when Marilyn Hargis taught us
00:17:52.140 --> 00:17:55.660
on the vine? The vine, uh -huh. She and her co
00:17:55.660 --> 00:18:00.700
-worker, Judith Moore. went to a vineyard and
00:18:00.700 --> 00:18:04.259
watched this whole process so that she could
00:18:04.259 --> 00:18:08.559
teach from John 15 to really understand. And
00:18:08.559 --> 00:18:11.559
this first thing about every branch in me that
00:18:11.559 --> 00:18:15.079
does not bear fruit, he takes away, in the Greek,
00:18:15.160 --> 00:18:18.680
it really means he lifts it up. And in this real
00:18:18.680 --> 00:18:21.119
vineyard that they went to. Sometimes they just
00:18:21.119 --> 00:18:24.099
have to lift it up and attach it to something
00:18:24.099 --> 00:18:27.000
in order to help it to bear fruit. It's already
00:18:27.000 --> 00:18:30.460
talking about pruning in another place. So lifting
00:18:30.460 --> 00:18:34.180
it up can help it to bear fruit. So I just thought
00:18:34.180 --> 00:18:38.140
I'd throw that in. Don't expect that everything
00:18:38.140 --> 00:18:40.460
in your life is going to get cut away. There
00:18:40.460 --> 00:18:43.079
is a pruning process, and it's good. It's good
00:18:43.079 --> 00:18:46.940
for us. Verse 3. Already you are clean because
00:18:46.940 --> 00:19:12.430
of the word that I have spoken to you. That's
00:19:12.430 --> 00:19:15.349
the word. Nothing. Without me, you can do nothing.
00:19:16.299 --> 00:19:19.539
If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown
00:19:19.539 --> 00:19:22.339
away like a branch and withers, and the branches
00:19:22.339 --> 00:19:24.980
are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
00:19:25.779 --> 00:19:28.599
If you abide in me and my words abide in you,
00:19:28.799 --> 00:19:31.660
ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for
00:19:31.660 --> 00:19:35.440
you. By this my Father is glorified, that you
00:19:35.440 --> 00:19:38.599
bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.
00:19:38.599 --> 00:19:41.519
See, there's the works. There's the works. Bearing
00:19:41.519 --> 00:19:43.740
fruit. Bearing fruit. Yeah, that's the works.
00:19:43.960 --> 00:19:47.450
Go ahead. As the Father has loved me, so have
00:19:47.450 --> 00:19:51.750
I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my
00:19:51.750 --> 00:19:54.950
commandments, you will abide in my love, just
00:19:54.950 --> 00:19:57.210
as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide
00:19:57.210 --> 00:20:01.109
in his love. These things I have spoken to you,
00:20:01.250 --> 00:20:04.890
that my joy may be in you, and that your joy
00:20:04.890 --> 00:20:09.490
may be full. Amen. In the Message Bible, it says,
00:20:09.710 --> 00:20:12.410
live in me. Instead of abide, it says, live in
00:20:12.410 --> 00:20:15.640
me. That kind of gives a better description of
00:20:15.640 --> 00:20:19.099
that. Yes, absolutely. This is my commandment
00:20:19.099 --> 00:20:21.279
that you love one another as I have loved you.
00:20:21.500 --> 00:20:24.599
That's big. Greater love has no one than this,
00:20:24.720 --> 00:20:27.880
that someone lay down his life for his friends.
00:20:28.619 --> 00:20:31.240
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
00:20:31.440 --> 00:20:34.880
There's the works. No longer do I call you servants,
00:20:34.900 --> 00:20:37.140
for the servant does not know what his master
00:20:37.140 --> 00:20:40.400
is doing. But I have called you friends, for
00:20:40.400 --> 00:20:42.819
all that I have heard from my Father I made known
00:20:42.819 --> 00:20:46.700
to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you
00:20:46.700 --> 00:20:49.440
and appointed you that you should go and bear
00:20:49.440 --> 00:20:52.400
fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that
00:20:52.400 --> 00:20:55.480
whatsoever you ask the Father in my name, he
00:20:55.480 --> 00:20:58.480
may give it to you. These things I command you,
00:20:58.559 --> 00:21:02.400
so that you will love one another. So loving
00:21:02.400 --> 00:21:08.420
one another is really the works of God. Because
00:21:08.420 --> 00:21:11.980
he is love. And greater love has no man than
00:21:11.980 --> 00:21:13.980
this, than that he lay down his life for his
00:21:13.980 --> 00:21:17.660
friends. Which Jesus did for us. Exactly. God
00:21:17.660 --> 00:21:21.779
so loved the world that he gave his only begotten
00:21:21.779 --> 00:21:24.700
son, that whosoever believes in him should not
00:21:24.700 --> 00:21:29.519
perish, but have everlasting life. So this abiding
00:21:29.519 --> 00:21:32.900
and abiding in his love and living, I like what
00:21:32.900 --> 00:21:37.170
you brought about that, living in his love. living
00:21:37.170 --> 00:21:43.890
in his presence. His presence is love. When we
00:21:43.890 --> 00:21:50.809
work from that standpoint, when he says, sweep
00:21:50.809 --> 00:21:55.470
the garage, that we just sweep the garage. And
00:21:55.470 --> 00:21:58.130
that obedience is what he's looking for, that
00:21:58.130 --> 00:22:01.690
he gives us things to do. There are works that
00:22:01.690 --> 00:22:06.980
we do, but some of it is going to be The Bible
00:22:06.980 --> 00:22:11.299
says do this. So we should do these things because
00:22:11.299 --> 00:22:14.839
that's what the word of God says. And we rightly
00:22:14.839 --> 00:22:18.019
divide the word of truth. Let the Bible interpret
00:22:18.019 --> 00:22:22.480
the Bible. Let the scriptures explain to us what
00:22:22.480 --> 00:22:24.559
the scriptures mean. Don't just pick out one
00:22:24.559 --> 00:22:29.329
verse and say, oh, this verse means this. It's
00:22:29.329 --> 00:22:32.829
out of context or outside of the way that God
00:22:32.829 --> 00:22:37.509
works. We learn his ways by walking with him.
00:22:37.670 --> 00:22:41.009
We learn his ways by learning his word, by learning
00:22:41.009 --> 00:22:45.289
history of how he operates. Not that he does
00:22:45.289 --> 00:22:48.289
the same thing twice. Lots of times, you know,
00:22:48.289 --> 00:22:52.349
he brings fresh new miracles all the time out
00:22:52.349 --> 00:22:57.109
of his love, out of his love for us. Learning
00:22:57.109 --> 00:22:59.789
to walk with him in love, it's about learning
00:22:59.789 --> 00:23:02.890
that walk of the Spirit so that we don't do things
00:23:02.890 --> 00:23:09.170
in the flesh. That the works that we do come
00:23:09.170 --> 00:23:13.529
out of our relationship. So I love what 1 Corinthians
00:23:13.529 --> 00:23:16.920
3 says about... us being God's fellow workers.
00:23:17.519 --> 00:23:22.799
Paul is talking in context here about the contentions
00:23:22.799 --> 00:23:25.500
that are going on in the church in Corinth. Which
00:23:25.500 --> 00:23:28.119
is what most of the letters to the churches were.
00:23:28.539 --> 00:23:31.839
Yeah, yeah. He's dealing with, you know, some
00:23:31.839 --> 00:23:33.700
people are saying, well, I'm of Apollos, and
00:23:33.700 --> 00:23:36.380
others are saying, well, I'm of Paul. And, you
00:23:36.380 --> 00:23:39.460
know, so there's divisions. And again, we're
00:23:39.460 --> 00:23:43.710
talking about people who are young in their faith.
00:23:44.109 --> 00:23:46.529
They're young in their walk. They're immature.
00:23:47.450 --> 00:23:50.049
And Paul says, I'm feeding you milk when you
00:23:50.049 --> 00:23:54.529
should be ready for some meat. Like a baby, you
00:23:54.529 --> 00:23:58.130
don't give a newborn baby meat. You just don't.
00:23:58.529 --> 00:24:03.210
Milk is for babies. So Paul is saying, I want
00:24:03.210 --> 00:24:06.250
you to grow up. Let's grow up here. Let's get
00:24:06.250 --> 00:24:09.009
rid of this contention. One is planting, so verse
00:24:09.009 --> 00:24:13.089
6 says, I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave
00:24:13.089 --> 00:24:15.730
the growth. So in other words, we're working
00:24:15.730 --> 00:24:20.589
together with God. Take it from verse 7. So neither
00:24:20.589 --> 00:24:23.529
he who plants nor he who waters is anything,
00:24:23.750 --> 00:24:27.910
but only God who gives the growth. Amen. He who
00:24:27.910 --> 00:24:31.009
plants and he who waters are one, and each will
00:24:31.009 --> 00:24:34.509
receive his wages according to his labor. For
00:24:34.509 --> 00:24:37.470
we are God's fellow workers. Amen. You are God's
00:24:37.470 --> 00:24:40.710
field, God's building. According to the grace
00:24:40.710 --> 00:24:43.849
of God given to me, like a skilled master builder,
00:24:44.309 --> 00:24:47.049
I laid a foundation and someone else is building
00:24:47.049 --> 00:24:50.690
upon it. Let each one take care of how he builds
00:24:50.690 --> 00:24:53.529
upon it. Okay, so that's you and that's me and
00:24:53.529 --> 00:24:55.269
that's everybody that's listening. Every one
00:24:55.269 --> 00:24:58.470
of us needs to take care how we build on this
00:24:58.470 --> 00:25:01.829
foundation. Go on. According to the grace of
00:25:01.829 --> 00:25:04.619
God given to me, Like a skilled master builder,
00:25:04.880 --> 00:25:07.319
I laid a foundation and someone else is building
00:25:07.319 --> 00:25:10.279
upon it. Let each one take care how he builds
00:25:10.279 --> 00:25:13.380
upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other
00:25:13.380 --> 00:25:15.859
than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
00:25:16.000 --> 00:25:19.539
Okay, Jesus is the foundation. Cornerstone. If
00:25:19.539 --> 00:25:22.920
we make him our cornerstone. Absolutely. Now,
00:25:22.940 --> 00:25:25.380
if anyone builds on the foundation with gold,
00:25:25.539 --> 00:25:29.920
silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each
00:25:29.920 --> 00:25:32.950
one's work will become manifest. for the day
00:25:32.950 --> 00:25:35.210
will disclose it because it will be revealed
00:25:35.210 --> 00:25:38.609
by fire, and the fire will test what sort of
00:25:38.609 --> 00:25:42.009
work each one has done. If the work that anyone
00:25:42.009 --> 00:25:45.250
has built on the foundation survives, he will
00:25:45.250 --> 00:25:48.410
receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned
00:25:48.410 --> 00:25:52.089
up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will
00:25:52.089 --> 00:25:56.210
be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not
00:25:56.210 --> 00:25:58.369
know that you are God's temple and that God's
00:25:58.369 --> 00:26:01.920
Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's
00:26:01.920 --> 00:26:05.319
temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple
00:26:05.319 --> 00:26:08.819
is holy, and you are that temple. Oh, you are
00:26:08.819 --> 00:26:12.039
that temple. Okay, so there's another picture
00:26:12.039 --> 00:26:18.259
of the relationship. You are the temple of God.
00:26:18.740 --> 00:26:22.039
Yeah, and you had the tabernacle in the wilderness,
00:26:22.380 --> 00:26:26.019
Moses' tabernacle. And David had it, and he put
00:26:26.019 --> 00:26:28.940
it out where people can see it, which was amazing.
00:26:29.920 --> 00:26:32.539
David's tabernacle. And then you had the temple.
00:26:33.039 --> 00:26:35.720
And when you read in the book of Revelation,
00:26:36.000 --> 00:26:38.960
you will find the temple. The temple of God was
00:26:38.960 --> 00:26:42.680
opened in heaven. So it's on earth as it is in
00:26:42.680 --> 00:26:46.740
heaven. That was a pattern given Moses. And when
00:26:46.740 --> 00:26:48.740
you read those scriptures about the temple in
00:26:48.740 --> 00:26:53.480
heaven, it's just like, oh, wow. There's some
00:26:53.480 --> 00:26:56.900
incredible stuff being released. So the temple
00:26:56.900 --> 00:27:00.920
on earth was kind of like, Not the replica, but
00:27:00.920 --> 00:27:04.819
it was the representation of God's glory on earth
00:27:04.819 --> 00:27:08.400
as it was in heaven. Yes. But things kind of
00:27:08.400 --> 00:27:11.279
went sour. Well, they did. But God gave instructions
00:27:11.279 --> 00:27:14.819
to do it in a way that would be on earth as it
00:27:14.819 --> 00:27:18.700
is in heaven. And I'm excited to learn more about.
00:27:19.079 --> 00:27:21.720
what Dean saw when we were in Israel with him.
00:27:21.819 --> 00:27:23.720
Yeah, he's going to tell us some more. He's going
00:27:23.720 --> 00:27:26.279
to tell us more. In a little bit here. Yes. A
00:27:26.279 --> 00:27:29.339
few more episodes coming. Yes. So stay tuned,
00:27:29.380 --> 00:27:32.339
everybody. But, you know, back to this idea of
00:27:32.339 --> 00:27:35.019
we are God's workmanship. We are his temple.
00:27:35.819 --> 00:27:39.740
Jesus is the foundation. So he's the foundation
00:27:39.740 --> 00:27:44.599
of the temple. And it's up to us what we... build
00:27:44.599 --> 00:27:47.960
with? So are we, I'm reminded of the three little
00:27:47.960 --> 00:27:51.480
pigs story, you know, where you have the one
00:27:51.480 --> 00:27:53.819
little pig that built his house out of straw,
00:27:54.039 --> 00:27:56.000
another one out of his sticks, and the other
00:27:56.000 --> 00:27:58.420
one out of bricks. What are you going to build
00:27:58.420 --> 00:28:02.160
with? What's going to be enduring? Bricks are
00:28:02.160 --> 00:28:04.640
going to endure. And when the big bad wolf comes,
00:28:04.779 --> 00:28:07.440
I'm going to huff and puff and blow your house
00:28:07.440 --> 00:28:11.660
down. Exactly. Exactly. So what are we building
00:28:11.660 --> 00:28:15.680
with? Because on the day of judgment, our works
00:28:15.680 --> 00:28:19.180
are going to be tried. And our works are what
00:28:19.180 --> 00:28:22.759
we built with. So if we built with something
00:28:22.759 --> 00:28:26.819
of our own making, if we built with something
00:28:26.819 --> 00:28:30.200
that was, you know, rearranging the garage instead
00:28:30.200 --> 00:28:34.180
of just sweeping it, you know, that's going to
00:28:34.180 --> 00:28:36.980
burn up. I remember the visions that, I think
00:28:36.980 --> 00:28:40.960
it was Anna Roundtree had, and she was in heaven.
00:28:41.849 --> 00:28:44.970
And she was talking to this little... A being.
00:28:45.170 --> 00:28:47.869
It was a being. Yeah, looked like a child. It
00:28:47.869 --> 00:28:49.509
looked like a child, but she could tell it was
00:28:49.509 --> 00:28:53.910
old. It was an ancient being. And it's talking
00:28:53.910 --> 00:28:57.279
to... And the little being, you know, talks about
00:28:57.279 --> 00:28:59.859
people, you know, many people make sandcastles.
00:28:59.920 --> 00:29:02.559
You know, we just let them make sandcastles.
00:29:02.720 --> 00:29:04.980
Yes. You know, and she said, I had the taste
00:29:04.980 --> 00:29:09.039
of a copper penny in my mouth, you know. Yes,
00:29:09.099 --> 00:29:11.339
I think that that being's name was called Crystal
00:29:11.339 --> 00:29:15.099
Clear. Crystal Clear. Yeah, Crystal Clear. And
00:29:15.099 --> 00:29:19.460
she was, yeah. And really, Crystal Clear was
00:29:19.460 --> 00:29:22.500
pointing out to Anna that she had been building
00:29:22.500 --> 00:29:26.210
with sand. Yeah. You know, and many times we
00:29:26.210 --> 00:29:29.430
don't know until we have an experience that something
00:29:29.430 --> 00:29:33.069
we're doing wasn't right. I mean, how many, you
00:29:33.069 --> 00:29:35.390
know, we know numerous ones that have had visits
00:29:35.390 --> 00:29:38.230
to heaven, but a lot of times things were correction.
00:29:38.890 --> 00:29:41.890
You know, you're not doing this right. It was
00:29:41.890 --> 00:29:45.549
Howard Pittman. He was a Baptist minister doing
00:29:45.549 --> 00:29:49.089
all the right things. He took in people. Yeah,
00:29:49.170 --> 00:29:51.470
standing on street corners, handing out tracts.
00:29:51.470 --> 00:29:53.539
Handing out tracts and that. And when he got
00:29:53.539 --> 00:29:56.299
to heaven, Jesus wouldn't let him in the gate.
00:29:56.579 --> 00:29:59.259
He had a massive heart attack and died instantly.
00:29:59.740 --> 00:30:02.000
He says, everything you did was for yourself.
00:30:02.200 --> 00:30:05.019
It wasn't for me. I'm giving you another chance
00:30:05.019 --> 00:30:09.880
to go back. Oh, wow. See, many never have a second
00:30:09.880 --> 00:30:13.460
chance. Very true. Very true. And if he had been
00:30:13.460 --> 00:30:17.279
allowed to go in, his works would have been burnt
00:30:17.279 --> 00:30:20.400
up. So he would have been saved, yet so as by
00:30:20.400 --> 00:30:23.819
fire, as the scripture says, but he would have
00:30:23.819 --> 00:30:26.680
had no reward. One of our teachers, that was
00:30:26.680 --> 00:30:29.180
June Lewis, always taught with illustrations.
00:30:29.460 --> 00:30:31.420
Yes, she was an artist. And she had this picture
00:30:31.420 --> 00:30:35.319
of this man before the throne, and with an angel
00:30:35.319 --> 00:30:37.819
with a bolt, and had all his works, and all his
00:30:37.819 --> 00:30:40.980
works burnt up. Yep. They were all on fire because
00:30:40.980 --> 00:30:44.400
they, that was for him. What are we doing? What
00:30:44.400 --> 00:30:49.849
can I do? And it's real easy to get busy doing
00:30:49.849 --> 00:30:53.890
the work of the ministry, doing the business
00:30:53.890 --> 00:30:57.890
of the ministry. I remember a story Jeff Johns
00:30:57.890 --> 00:31:01.529
told once. A young lady came up and says, can
00:31:01.529 --> 00:31:04.369
I sing? It was a solo or something like that.
00:31:04.410 --> 00:31:07.349
He says, well, first, and he had her cleaning
00:31:07.349 --> 00:31:10.970
toilets, had her sweeping, having to do all these
00:31:10.970 --> 00:31:13.950
things, teaching her to be a servant. Right.
00:31:14.380 --> 00:31:18.700
And after she had learned obedience in many ways
00:31:18.700 --> 00:31:22.059
and different things, he let her sing. And it
00:31:22.059 --> 00:31:25.799
was so anointed. Yes. Yeah. It has to do with
00:31:25.799 --> 00:31:28.460
getting our attitude right. Yeah. And a similar
00:31:28.460 --> 00:31:31.539
story I'm reminded of is one that Walter Buechler
00:31:31.539 --> 00:31:33.859
told. And Walter Buechler was a man who really
00:31:33.859 --> 00:31:37.180
walked with God and really practiced the presence
00:31:37.180 --> 00:31:41.579
of God. He taught in a Bible school in Pennsylvania
00:31:41.579 --> 00:31:46.400
at Camp Hill. There was a young woman, one of
00:31:46.400 --> 00:31:50.759
the students, that had a beautiful voice, and
00:31:50.759 --> 00:31:56.019
she would sing for their chapel time. And the
00:31:56.019 --> 00:32:01.880
Lord told him to tell her that her voice, I don't
00:32:01.880 --> 00:32:03.619
remember the exact words, but it was something
00:32:03.619 --> 00:32:06.519
along the lines of, your voice is obnoxious to
00:32:06.519 --> 00:32:11.720
me. Sit down. Oh, my. And she was horribly embarrassed.
00:32:11.940 --> 00:32:15.009
He didn't want to tell her. I mean, who would
00:32:15.009 --> 00:32:17.150
want to give that kind of a message from God
00:32:17.150 --> 00:32:20.589
to anybody? But he obeyed God and he told her
00:32:20.589 --> 00:32:24.849
and she wept and she cried and she sat down.
00:32:24.970 --> 00:32:27.650
And I don't think he rebuked her publicly. I
00:32:27.650 --> 00:32:31.329
think he gave her the word privately. So she
00:32:31.329 --> 00:32:34.369
didn't sing for, I don't know if it was weeks
00:32:34.369 --> 00:32:38.309
or months. And then the Lord told him to tell
00:32:38.309 --> 00:32:41.700
her it was time for her to sing again. And she
00:32:41.700 --> 00:32:44.160
had been humbled in that time because she realized
00:32:44.160 --> 00:32:46.960
that the reason why she was singing was out of
00:32:46.960 --> 00:32:50.180
her own pride. And that she thought her voice
00:32:50.180 --> 00:32:54.000
was so beautiful to God and to everyone else
00:32:54.000 --> 00:32:58.720
that there was a pride issue. And so she sat
00:32:58.720 --> 00:33:02.259
down humbly for that time and really humbled
00:33:02.259 --> 00:33:05.720
herself before God. When he did tell her to sing
00:33:05.720 --> 00:33:08.619
again, she said, I was afraid I would never sing
00:33:08.619 --> 00:33:12.039
again. Remember, your brother laid down his violin
00:33:12.039 --> 00:33:14.640
for a season. Yeah, that was The Eye of the Needle,
00:33:14.660 --> 00:33:17.380
the prophetic parable by Charlotte Baker. Yes,
00:33:17.420 --> 00:33:20.460
and I think we did a whole podcast on that, so
00:33:20.460 --> 00:33:24.380
we'll include the link to that. Because even
00:33:24.380 --> 00:33:27.299
at convention, I would help on the sound table,
00:33:27.380 --> 00:33:31.460
and there would be this stack of... Of soundtracks.
00:33:31.480 --> 00:33:34.500
Oh, yeah. If Sister Gwen asked me to sing, you
00:33:34.500 --> 00:33:37.599
know, we got all these stack of cassettes and
00:33:37.599 --> 00:33:42.160
CDs, you know. I'm prepared to sing. I'm ready
00:33:42.160 --> 00:33:44.640
to sing, yeah. It's always good to be prepared.
00:33:45.000 --> 00:33:48.740
Yes. But how did the Lord deal with you? Oh,
00:33:48.740 --> 00:33:52.619
wow. Yeah, I had a stack of soundtracks, you
00:33:52.619 --> 00:33:55.660
know. And I'd ask Sister Gwen because we were
00:33:55.660 --> 00:33:58.670
her road crew. Right. We traveled with her. And
00:33:58.670 --> 00:34:01.049
I'd say, do you want me to sing anything tonight,
00:34:01.230 --> 00:34:03.910
you know? And she would always, you know, have
00:34:03.910 --> 00:34:06.390
something. There would be something, you know,
00:34:06.390 --> 00:34:08.510
she's preaching on. I could, you know, do a song
00:34:08.510 --> 00:34:11.230
or something. Yeah. And often she did ask you
00:34:11.230 --> 00:34:13.349
to do things. Yeah, she did. But there came a
00:34:13.349 --> 00:34:16.090
time. When there came a time when things just
00:34:16.090 --> 00:34:18.889
started going wrong. Oh, yeah, I remember. I
00:34:18.889 --> 00:34:21.389
mean, all of a sudden the soundtrack wasn't,
00:34:21.389 --> 00:34:24.329
you know, it would do something. Or the monitors
00:34:24.329 --> 00:34:27.960
didn't work. Or maybe the microphone. It was
00:34:27.960 --> 00:34:32.340
constant. So I got to realize, and I thought
00:34:32.340 --> 00:34:35.559
of this eye of the needle thing. I went back
00:34:35.559 --> 00:34:38.780
to that, and I thought, you know, self -examination
00:34:38.780 --> 00:34:41.320
is what it was. When a thing like that happens,
00:34:41.460 --> 00:34:45.599
what's the purpose for this? So I wouldn't ask
00:34:45.599 --> 00:34:49.440
her anymore, only if she asked me to sing. And
00:34:49.440 --> 00:34:51.500
then we went through it, and I said, Lord, take
00:34:51.500 --> 00:34:55.840
the desire out to lead worship. Because as a
00:34:55.840 --> 00:35:00.199
worship leader, you want to get on a stage. And
00:35:00.199 --> 00:35:03.860
there can be a lot of pride in that. You see
00:35:03.860 --> 00:35:07.019
that all the time. There's something about getting
00:35:07.019 --> 00:35:10.340
on the stage in somebody's convention or something.
00:35:11.199 --> 00:35:15.980
And if your attitude's not right. And so we went
00:35:15.980 --> 00:35:19.929
through a season of time. And I felt like we're
00:35:19.929 --> 00:35:21.889
coming out of this. And then we're on our way
00:35:21.889 --> 00:35:25.230
to Israel. And it was Sadhu Salvage invited us
00:35:25.230 --> 00:35:28.429
to be one of the worship teams on his first conference
00:35:28.429 --> 00:35:32.570
on the Mount of Olives. I thought, that's tremendous.
00:35:32.730 --> 00:35:35.730
We're coming out full barrel. Thank you, Jesus.
00:35:36.030 --> 00:35:39.389
And we're on our way to New York, the long way,
00:35:39.469 --> 00:35:42.190
have meetings driving along the way. And that's
00:35:42.190 --> 00:35:46.360
when we had our big wreck, which messed. My hands
00:35:46.360 --> 00:35:51.599
up, my arms messed a lot of things up. And when
00:35:51.599 --> 00:35:53.960
we got home after five weeks, it took about five
00:35:53.960 --> 00:35:57.420
weeks before I was able to fly. I told everybody,
00:35:57.619 --> 00:36:00.739
you know, the eye of the needle has a long tunnel.
00:36:01.800 --> 00:36:06.659
Sometimes when you think you're at the end of
00:36:06.659 --> 00:36:10.559
something, there can be a final testing that
00:36:10.559 --> 00:36:13.650
will really... You know, it's like almost the
00:36:13.650 --> 00:36:15.909
dark night of the soul. Oh, it was. It really
00:36:15.909 --> 00:36:18.110
was for us. It absolutely was. We never dreamed
00:36:18.110 --> 00:36:20.510
that could ever happen to us. God, how could
00:36:20.510 --> 00:36:23.989
you let this happen? You know. Right. But it
00:36:23.989 --> 00:36:27.389
happened. Yeah. And there were things that God
00:36:27.389 --> 00:36:30.150
was dealing with. Yeah. You know, in my life,
00:36:30.170 --> 00:36:34.130
I know. And so. Sometimes we think, Lord, isn't
00:36:34.130 --> 00:36:35.849
there an easier way this could have happened?
00:36:36.010 --> 00:36:39.570
But wouldn't, isn't it better that we go through
00:36:39.570 --> 00:36:44.710
the fire now? on this side rather than having
00:36:44.710 --> 00:36:46.769
all of our works burned up on the other side
00:36:46.769 --> 00:36:50.150
the scripture what is the profit a man if he
00:36:50.150 --> 00:36:52.590
gains the world or whatever he does in the world
00:36:52.590 --> 00:36:57.570
and loses his own soul yeah yeah you know even
00:36:57.570 --> 00:37:01.150
a particular worship leader in a church we went
00:37:01.150 --> 00:37:04.469
to he was asked to leave and we kind of wondered
00:37:04.469 --> 00:37:07.789
i wonder what happened you know and and some
00:37:07.789 --> 00:37:11.079
years later He got into an accident, and it turns
00:37:11.079 --> 00:37:15.159
out he had a mistress. He was into all kinds
00:37:15.159 --> 00:37:18.039
of wrong things, and he ended up in a bad car
00:37:18.039 --> 00:37:21.659
crash, and he ended up going to jail. But on
00:37:21.659 --> 00:37:24.739
the surface, he looked so anointed, but sometimes
00:37:24.739 --> 00:37:27.980
you could just kind of tell things that, you
00:37:27.980 --> 00:37:31.239
know, okay, because eventually things will come
00:37:31.239 --> 00:37:33.980
out. Remember the old saying, you can fool some
00:37:33.980 --> 00:37:35.920
of the people all the time, but you can't fool
00:37:35.920 --> 00:37:38.000
all the people. You know, how does that work?
00:37:38.360 --> 00:37:41.360
You can fool some of the people all the time.
00:37:41.420 --> 00:37:44.079
But you can't fool all the people. All the time,
00:37:44.219 --> 00:37:47.320
yeah. Some of the people, some of the time. Yeah.
00:37:47.400 --> 00:37:50.039
And all the people, some of the time. Well, you
00:37:50.039 --> 00:37:52.719
get the idea anyway. Eventually, it's going to
00:37:52.719 --> 00:37:55.400
catch you. Yes. You know, like the con man gets
00:37:55.400 --> 00:37:58.940
caught usually eventually. Yes. And ultimately,
00:37:59.219 --> 00:38:02.599
God is going to see to it that judgment happens.
00:38:02.599 --> 00:38:07.090
So if you're a con man in ministry. Ooh. I've
00:38:07.090 --> 00:38:09.429
never thought of that before. Oh, and there are
00:38:09.429 --> 00:38:11.050
some. And there's a lot of them. Yes. Have you
00:38:11.050 --> 00:38:13.869
ever heard that before? The con man in ministry?
00:38:14.389 --> 00:38:19.630
Yeah. Wow. And God deals with them. Yeah. God
00:38:19.630 --> 00:38:22.409
has the final say. Even though things start out
00:38:22.409 --> 00:38:25.630
right. Or maybe they look right. Look right.
00:38:26.309 --> 00:38:30.369
But ultimately, God is looking for us to walk
00:38:30.369 --> 00:38:33.409
in relationship with him. Yeah. And I love the
00:38:33.409 --> 00:38:37.780
fact that he... is the one that initiates the
00:38:37.780 --> 00:38:41.420
stuff and he's busy helping us by his Holy Spirit
00:38:41.420 --> 00:38:45.039
to get into a place where we're walking with
00:38:45.039 --> 00:38:49.619
him and doing stuff out of obedience and doing
00:38:49.619 --> 00:38:53.219
stuff out of love for him and just sweeping the
00:38:53.219 --> 00:38:55.400
garage when he says sweep the garage. Yeah, and
00:38:55.400 --> 00:38:58.340
the scriptures, humble thyself in the sight of
00:38:58.340 --> 00:39:01.940
the Lord and he will exalt thee. In due time.
00:39:02.019 --> 00:39:04.599
In Kairos time. That's right. I'm sure that would
00:39:04.599 --> 00:39:08.139
be more like a Kairos time. Yeah. Yeah. So I
00:39:08.139 --> 00:39:11.840
love the fact that it's really God that's busy
00:39:11.840 --> 00:39:15.420
doing the whole thing. He's looking for us to
00:39:15.420 --> 00:39:19.960
work with him. Yeah. We are. God's fellow workers.
00:39:20.440 --> 00:39:23.980
We are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus
00:39:23.980 --> 00:39:28.079
unto good works. And he has ordained that we
00:39:28.079 --> 00:39:32.460
should walk in them. So walking with him is what
00:39:32.460 --> 00:39:36.619
makes it work. It makes the works work. Makes
00:39:36.619 --> 00:39:40.139
the works work. That's pretty good. So what I
00:39:40.139 --> 00:39:43.500
love also is that God, there's a few places in
00:39:43.500 --> 00:39:47.039
the scripture where God says the words by myself.
00:39:48.650 --> 00:39:51.449
So in the Old Testament, there are several places
00:39:51.449 --> 00:39:56.090
where it says, as the Lord lives or as Yehovah
00:39:56.090 --> 00:40:01.309
lives. And it's a statement of kind of like making
00:40:01.309 --> 00:40:05.650
a declaration about as truly as God lives, this
00:40:05.650 --> 00:40:09.469
is the truth. Okay, so God is in a few places,
00:40:09.489 --> 00:40:13.010
he's swearing by himself because there's nobody
00:40:13.010 --> 00:40:17.639
greater to swear by, right? And he says, as truly
00:40:17.639 --> 00:40:20.619
as I live, all the earth shall be filled with
00:40:20.619 --> 00:40:23.880
the glory of the Lord. As truly as I live. So
00:40:23.880 --> 00:40:28.820
he swears by himself. And in Genesis 22, verses
00:40:28.820 --> 00:40:32.619
15 through 18, just read that if you would. And
00:40:32.619 --> 00:40:35.139
the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second
00:40:35.139 --> 00:40:39.440
time from heaven and said, by myself I have sworn,
00:40:39.639 --> 00:40:42.420
declares the Lord, because you have done this
00:40:42.420 --> 00:40:45.380
and have not withheld your son. your only son,
00:40:45.420 --> 00:40:47.320
so this was Isaac when he was going to offer
00:40:47.320 --> 00:40:50.500
him, I will surely bless you and I will surely
00:40:50.500 --> 00:40:53.099
multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven
00:40:53.099 --> 00:40:56.519
and as the sand that is on the seashore. And
00:40:56.519 --> 00:40:58.880
your offspring shall possess the gate of his
00:40:58.880 --> 00:41:02.000
enemies. And in your offspring shall all the
00:41:02.000 --> 00:41:04.840
nations of the earth be blessed because you have
00:41:04.840 --> 00:41:07.900
obeyed my voice. So he's swearing by himself.
00:41:08.440 --> 00:41:11.639
So he's saying, as truly as I live, basically,
00:41:11.760 --> 00:41:16.590
I have sworn by myself. Because you did this.
00:41:16.809 --> 00:41:21.969
See, Abraham did a work. It was a work for him
00:41:21.969 --> 00:41:26.909
to obey God when God said, sacrifice your son.
00:41:27.469 --> 00:41:29.769
And the point of that, and we've talked about
00:41:29.769 --> 00:41:33.309
this before, but the point of that was that on
00:41:33.309 --> 00:41:37.349
earth as it is in heaven, Abraham sacrificed
00:41:37.349 --> 00:41:40.030
or was willing to sacrifice. It was as though
00:41:40.030 --> 00:41:44.139
he had done it. Before he did it. It was in his
00:41:44.139 --> 00:41:46.840
heart he had done it. He had sacrificed his son
00:41:46.840 --> 00:41:51.639
because God said to. And that was doing on earth
00:41:51.639 --> 00:41:55.119
as it is in heaven because our Father in heaven
00:41:55.119 --> 00:41:57.800
was going to sacrifice his son on the very same
00:41:57.800 --> 00:42:03.579
place. On Mount Moriah, right? So God was declaring.
00:42:04.230 --> 00:42:08.070
Because you did this. I'm going to do this. And
00:42:08.070 --> 00:42:11.010
I'm going to do it for sure because I'm swearing
00:42:11.010 --> 00:42:14.690
by myself. Nobody else. There's nobody else to
00:42:14.690 --> 00:42:19.010
swear by. And then in Isaiah 45, 22 and 23, he
00:42:19.010 --> 00:42:21.070
says, turn to me and be saved all the ends of
00:42:21.070 --> 00:42:24.230
the earth for I am God and there is no other
00:42:24.230 --> 00:42:28.230
by myself. I have sworn from my mouth has gone
00:42:28.230 --> 00:42:30.969
out in righteousness, a word that shall not return
00:42:30.969 --> 00:42:34.409
to me. Every knee shall bow. Every tongue shall
00:42:34.409 --> 00:42:36.510
swear allegiance or every tongue shall confess.
00:42:36.570 --> 00:42:39.769
Right. So see, there's things that he does by
00:42:39.769 --> 00:42:44.380
himself. He wants us to cooperate with him in
00:42:44.380 --> 00:42:48.780
the things that he does. We're working together
00:42:48.780 --> 00:42:52.380
with him. We are his fellow laborers, his fellow
00:42:52.380 --> 00:42:57.739
workers. In Isaiah 44, 23 to 28, he says, Sing,
00:42:57.739 --> 00:43:01.039
O heavens, for the Lord, Yehovah, has done it.
00:43:01.369 --> 00:43:04.730
Shout, O depths of the earth. Break forth into
00:43:04.730 --> 00:43:06.989
singing, O mountains, O forests, and every tree
00:43:06.989 --> 00:43:11.429
in it. For Yehovah the Lord has redeemed Jacob
00:43:11.429 --> 00:43:16.030
and will be glorified in Israel. Thus says Yehovah
00:43:16.030 --> 00:43:19.730
your Redeemer who formed you from the womb. I
00:43:19.730 --> 00:43:24.769
am Yehovah who made all things, who alone stretched
00:43:24.769 --> 00:43:27.769
out the heavens, who spread out the earth by
00:43:27.769 --> 00:43:32.199
myself. So he's the creator. He did it all by
00:43:32.199 --> 00:43:36.039
himself. But he's looking for us to be his fellow
00:43:36.039 --> 00:43:39.739
workers. Yeah. Isn't that beautiful? Wow. That
00:43:39.739 --> 00:43:44.659
is just amazing. Just amazing. So let's wrap
00:43:44.659 --> 00:43:50.960
this up by going to Psalm 46. Psalm 46 is one
00:43:50.960 --> 00:43:54.840
of those places that just brings you so much
00:43:54.840 --> 00:44:00.019
comfort. I just love Psalm 46. So Psalm 46 from
00:44:00.019 --> 00:44:04.480
the Amplified Classic, God is our refuge and
00:44:04.480 --> 00:44:08.579
strength, mighty and impenetrable to temptation,
00:44:08.940 --> 00:44:13.159
a very present and well -proved help in trouble.
00:44:13.800 --> 00:44:17.539
Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth
00:44:17.539 --> 00:44:20.679
should change, and though the mountains be shaken
00:44:20.679 --> 00:44:23.539
into the midst of the seas, though its waters
00:44:23.539 --> 00:44:26.980
roar and foam. Though the mountains tremble at
00:44:26.980 --> 00:44:31.000
its swelling and tumult, silah, pause and calmly
00:44:31.000 --> 00:44:34.480
think of that. There's a river whose streams
00:44:34.480 --> 00:44:37.280
shall make glad the city of God, the holy place
00:44:37.280 --> 00:44:39.320
of the tabernacles of the Most High. Remember,
00:44:39.539 --> 00:44:44.519
we are his temple. So he's busy building his
00:44:44.519 --> 00:44:47.280
temple on earth the same way that it is in heaven.
00:44:48.099 --> 00:44:50.500
God is in the midst of her. God is in the midst
00:44:50.500 --> 00:44:55.809
of you. God is in the midst of me. is in the
00:44:55.809 --> 00:44:58.070
midst of us. God is in the midst of her. She
00:44:58.070 --> 00:45:01.570
shall not be moved. God will help her right early
00:45:01.570 --> 00:45:05.070
at the dawn of the morning. The nations raged.
00:45:05.090 --> 00:45:08.150
The kingdoms tottered and were moved. He uttered
00:45:08.150 --> 00:45:12.070
his voice. The earth melted. The Lord of hosts
00:45:12.070 --> 00:45:14.929
is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge, our
00:45:14.929 --> 00:45:18.829
fortress and high tower. Selah. Pause and think
00:45:18.829 --> 00:45:23.969
calmly of that. Come, behold the works of the
00:45:23.969 --> 00:45:27.280
Lord. He's done all these things by himself,
00:45:27.559 --> 00:45:32.139
and yet he wants to partner with us. Come behold
00:45:32.139 --> 00:45:35.079
the works of the Lord, who has wrought desolations
00:45:35.079 --> 00:45:38.679
and wonders in the earth. He makes wars to cease
00:45:38.679 --> 00:45:41.760
to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow into
00:45:41.760 --> 00:45:46.059
pieces and snaps the spear in two. He burns the
00:45:46.059 --> 00:45:50.860
chariots in the fire. Let be and be still. and
00:45:50.860 --> 00:45:55.079
know, recognize, and understand that I am God.
00:45:55.340 --> 00:45:58.559
I will be exalted among the nations. I will be
00:45:58.559 --> 00:46:02.639
exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with
00:46:02.639 --> 00:46:05.719
us. The God of Jacob is our refuge, our high
00:46:05.719 --> 00:46:09.900
tower and stronghold. Selah. Pause and calmly
00:46:09.900 --> 00:46:16.659
think of that. Beautiful. How amazing that the
00:46:16.659 --> 00:46:20.980
one who has done it all wants to work with us,
00:46:21.179 --> 00:46:25.460
come behold the works of the Lord. He's working
00:46:25.460 --> 00:46:29.960
in us. He's working in us by His Spirit. We are
00:46:29.960 --> 00:46:35.599
in Him, and He is in us. And when you have that
00:46:35.599 --> 00:46:39.739
life going back and forth through our flesh,
00:46:39.960 --> 00:46:45.380
He's designed us so that the life is in us and
00:46:45.380 --> 00:46:48.719
around us. His love, His life, His presence.
00:46:49.530 --> 00:46:53.269
It kind of like arcs through our flesh to bring
00:46:53.269 --> 00:46:56.389
us into subjection, to bring us into that place
00:46:56.389 --> 00:47:00.590
where we just sweep the garage. When he says
00:47:00.590 --> 00:47:04.690
sweep the garage. This is in verse 8, 9. Everyone
00:47:04.690 --> 00:47:08.090
look. This is the Passion Translation. Come and
00:47:08.090 --> 00:47:10.969
see the breathtaking wonders of our God. Yes.
00:47:11.130 --> 00:47:14.389
For he brings both ruin and revival. Oh, that's
00:47:14.389 --> 00:47:17.190
good. He's the one who makes conflicts end throughout
00:47:17.190 --> 00:47:20.130
the earth. Breaking and burning every weapon
00:47:20.130 --> 00:47:24.849
of war. He's going to do that completely. Yeah,
00:47:24.889 --> 00:47:28.809
there's great hope. When we look at everything
00:47:28.809 --> 00:47:33.750
accelerating around us, the agendas of things
00:47:33.750 --> 00:47:36.929
that are going on, it's just like, you know,
00:47:37.010 --> 00:47:39.510
this cannot be fixed in the natural. There's
00:47:39.510 --> 00:47:43.550
just no way. Only God can do this. And so when
00:47:43.550 --> 00:47:46.289
we look our eyes to him, that's where our hope
00:47:46.289 --> 00:47:49.789
lies. Right. Our hope lies in His promise to
00:47:49.789 --> 00:47:53.849
pour out His Spirit on all flesh. So we contend
00:47:53.849 --> 00:47:56.610
for it, we quit for it, and we engage in it.
00:47:56.750 --> 00:48:05.690
Amen. Amen. If you enjoyed today's podcast, please
