“The Foundational Prayer to Our Father” (334)

0:00 The point is, thy kingdom come. Because when we pray this prayer, we're praying for this. We're praying for this to come. And we're asking God to do it. And what we're doing is getting into agreement with what he has promised. Get into agreement with his promises, and that's when the promises will come to pass. God promises in Joel 2 .28 to pour out his spirit on all humanity. Welcome to Global Outpouring. Are we content for that promised outpouring? Are we equipped for that outpouring so that we may engage in that very outpouring? I'm Philip Buss. And I'm Sharon Buss. Welcome to the podcast today. We are really excited to bring to you something that's been on my heart for years, even before we started podcasting. This is a foundational teaching, a foundational understanding that every one of us needs to get. We're going to talk about what some people call the Our Father. Some people call it the Lord's Prayer. This is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples to pray, and we're going to open it up and dig deep. I think you'll enjoy this. Thanks so much for joining us today. 2:36 Thanks so much. So we're getting ready to open up the scriptures. Open them up and dig into the delicious Word of God, because it's bread for us. The Word of God is bread. And so we want to talk about this wonderful, wonderful prayer that Jesus taught his disciples to pray. It's found in Matthew 6, and it starts with verse 9. It's a part of the Sermon on the Mount. So I'm going to read it in the New King James. We learned it in the King James Version, and that's just how it is in our heads. But maybe you are younger and you're not so accustomed to some of the older English words. So what Jesus said in verse 9, he's telling the disciples in this manner, pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Amen. So we're going to break this up in little pieces that are chewable so that we can really digest what Jesus is saying

4:06 to his disciples. So the first thing that he says, he says, our father. Now, when he's talking to his father, he says, father. So when you're talking to him directly, you can just call him father or you can call him Abba. You know, that's the modern Hebrew or even, you know, it's not just modern Hebrew. But when I think of that word, I'm picturing the little children in the airport that are tired and, you know, the flight leaves at 11 p .m. and they should be sleeping. And we're going to Israel and they're, you know. tired and cranky, and you see the little one going, Abba! And, you know, like, pick me up and hold me. And so that's what I think of when I think of Abba. And, you know, you find that in the New Testament where Paul is talking about the spirit of adoption, whereby we call him Abba, Father. Yeah, and you hear that when you're walking in the streets and there's a little kid here.

5:07 Abba, Abba, Abba, Abba. What is mother? Ima. Ima. Yeah. It's Abba and Ima. Abba, Ima. Yeah. So I was fascinated to discover that the first word in the Hebrew dictionary is Av, which is the root word for Abba. And it's spelled Aleph. You could look at it and say Bet, but it's really Vet because, well, there's a dot in the Bet and there's no dot in the Vet. It's the same letter. The first word in the biblical Hebrew dictionary is of. So you have to understand that it's the most important thing that we understand that God is our Father. We are His children. It's said of Jesus in John chapter 1, In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And, you know, it's only in recent years that we have discovered, because of people doing in vitro fertilization, that when the egg and the sperm come together, there's a flash of light. It comes from our Father.

6:17 Life comes from our Heavenly Father. And He does everything well. So it doesn't matter who your parents are or under what circumstances you were conceived. Your Father... the one that counts, is your heavenly father, right? So just a few scriptures about our father. I really wanted to look into the Hebrew scriptures, the Old Testament, as we call it, to talk about our father, because I don't know why, but most of the Jewish people don't think of God as their father, but he is. And it's very clear from the scriptures. Philip, would you read 1 Chronicles 29 .10, please? Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the assembly.

7:03 And David said, Blessed are you, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. Amen. Our Abba. Our Father. And then Isaiah 63, 16. Doubtless you are our Father. Though Abraham was ignorant of us and Israel does not acknowledge us, you, O Lord, are our Father. Our Redeemer from everlasting is your name. Hallelujah. And, you know, remember that Abraham was promised to be the father of many nations, right? Yeah. But this scripture in Isaiah was given hundreds and hundreds of years later. So Abraham didn't know this generation, and neither did Israel, who is Jacob. Jacob's name was changed to Israel. So Israel doesn't acknowledge us, but you, Lord. You are present tense. You're the I am. You are here now. You always were. You are now. And you always will be what you always have been. And you are our Father. You are the one who created us as Father.

8:15 And if you look in the genealogy of Jesus, I think it's the one in Matthew, but it could be the one in Luke. I wasn't planning to say this. But it talks about who was the father of who was the father of who was the father. And you get back to Adam. Adam was the son of God. Yeah. He's our father. He's been the father of all of us. So let's read also Isaiah 64, 8. But now, O Lord, you are our father. We are the clay, and you are our potter, and all we are the work of your hand. Amen. So all we have to do is yield.

8:56 Yield under pressure. Under pressure. The potter applies pressure to the clay, and it's the clay's job to yield. Yeah. So that's us. Meanwhile, while you're spinning through the whole thing. Yeah, spinning. He puts you on there. Have you ever felt like you're spinning? It's because God is fixing to do some... adjustments. Yeah. When you feel like you're in a whirlwind, when you feel like you're spinning, it's time to yield to God because he's doing something and it's good. It's for your good and it's for the good of the kingdom. So I went back to look at the name Avraham. Okay. We say Abraham. Remember I said that the B, the bet. When it's got a dot in it, it's a B sound. When it's got no dot, it's a V sound, but it's the same letter. And depending on where it is in the word and what kind of conjugation, if it's a verb, it might have a B sound or a V sound. So Abraham in Hebrew is really pronounced Avraham. Avraham. And remember, his name was changed. So first his name was Avram.

10:07 And that means exalted father. or father of elevation. So he was a very wealthy man, but he was named that to begin with. And I love how the names in the Bible picture what the person's going to be, or what they are, or what the circumstances of their birth are. And so he's already being pronounced as an exalted father, even though actually he had an older brother. But he's the one that his father called exalted father. He's the one God chose. Yeah. And so his father must have had some revelation from God. Then when his name was changed, when God added that. When he added that H sound, it's like he added his own breath to Abraham's name and to Sarah's name to give them life because they were really old.

11:02 They were old, old, old and unable to have children, but God had promised them children. So he changed their name. He added that breath. into their name. And that changed the meaning of his name to father of a multitude or the chief of a multitude. And so it's interesting that the latter part, you know, we know Av. We have already learned that Av means father. And then Hamon. is the root word that is the latter part of his name, meaning a crowd or a multitude. So he's the father of a multitude. And then just go ahead and read Genesis 17 .5 if you would. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be called Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. Yes. A father of many nations.

12:00 A father of a multitude. So, you know, a father of a great number or an abundance. And then he goes on to say, I love how the word of God gives a name that is from the circumstances. So he says, you're going to be called Avraham or father of a multitude because I'm going to make you the father of many nations. And that word nations is actually goyim. It could be the Gentiles. Sometimes he uses the word for the people group called Israel. So he's saying, I have raised you up to father many nations. And so we as Goyim, as Gentiles, we've been grafted into the root of Israel. take our faith from Father Abraham.

12:56 He was faithful and he became this father. So I don't want to spend too much time on Abraham because I really want to get back to God as our father, but I just wanted you to get this picture of this fatherhood that's so, so, so important. So, you know, we are shaped in a way by our fathers, our earthly fathers, and God designed the family so that The father figure in the household is to model God the Father to the children. So I don't know of any perfect fathers. Do you? No.

13:39 No. I know some good fathers. My father was a good father. A good father. But your father was a good father. He was a disciplinarian. Yeah. He was harsh sometimes. I'm glad he wasn't an alcoholic. Oh, yeah. I would have been a whole lot more. So there are absentee fathers. So a child who grows up completely fatherless needs to get acquainted with God or Father. And then there are abusive fathers. And you need to have those wounds healed. And then you have passive fathers. My father was a bit passive. And there were times when I was looking to him to stand up for me, and he didn't. And so, you know, there's hurts and traumas that come from fathers that...

14:34 Only our Heavenly Father can heal, and our Heavenly Father will heal. That's His whole design. He wants you to know Him so that you can be healed, so that He can fill that place where your earthly father blew it. And He wants to heal you. We heard a sermon recently by Apostle Brian Vallee. at Apostle Tony Kemp's conference. And he was talking about his book, Fatherless. We're looking forward to having him on this podcast soon, I hope. And he has written a book called Fatherless.

15:15 And in that, he talks about one of the strong, strong weapons of the enemy of God against people is a weapon that he calls fatherless. And it really is very, very truly a weapon that is causing great trauma and pain and hurt. But he preached this sermon, and I'm just going to give you a little piece of it, about how Gideon... was called by God. He's threshing in the winepress, which is not where you thresh. But the enemy was trying to steal everything, so he's trying to hide from the enemy. And God calls him a mighty man of valor. Well, he doesn't think of himself that way. And he doesn't know what to do with that.

16:04 But he goes on to use his father's oxen. to pull down his father's altar to Baal and cut down all of the trees that are part of the grove that's part of the idol worship. That was Holy Ghost. Oh, man. Yeah, well, he had chutzpah enough to do it, but he did it at night so that nobody would see him. So he wasn't totally full of, he wasn't totally gutsy. His dad wouldn't see him either. Right, exactly. He did that. Exactly. But here's the lesson. God begins to speak into your life from his word or from the Holy Spirit.

16:44 He's trying to tell you that you are a mighty man or a mighty woman of valor. And he's trying to help you to step up into who you really are from God's perspective. And that's the perspective that counts. So then you take the thing that your father did wrong. You know, it was his father's oxen. And it was his father's altar. And he used his father's oxen to pull down his father's altar. And we need to get to that place where we are willing to pull down that altar that has become an idol in our lives. When we are holding on to that hurt, when we're holding on to the wounds and the trauma, and it's affecting everything in our lives. It's affecting our self. awareness, it's affecting what we think of ourselves. And, you know, all those voices that are accusing us and saying, oh, you're nothing, oh, you're blah, blah, blah, whatever it is that is saying to you. You've got to use that hurt and use that trauma, harness it to our Heavenly Father. and pull down that stronghold in your life so that it doesn't affect you anymore and you rise up to be that mighty man or woman of valor. Amen?

18:08 Amen. So I was so moved by that. I felt like we needed to add that to it, although we'll probably talk about it with Brian Vallee. But I just wanted to bring that. Let's look at 2 Corinthians 1, 2 -4. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. Amen. God is our Father, and He's the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and He's the Father of mercies. Anybody need mercy? Yes, we do. So he's the father of mercies and the God of all comfort. So all of those wounds that you've had from your father, he wants to be there and hold you in his everlasting arms and comfort you and bring you into a place of healing so that you don't have to carry around all those wounds. You weren't designed to carry wounds.

19:21 You were designed to be. A vessel of love, filled with love, covered with love, filled and overflowing so that you're just a vessel of love. Yeah. Amen? Amen. So, would you read Micah 7, 18? Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He does not retain his anger forever, hallelujah, because he delights in mercy. He delights in mercy. God is not mad at you. God is not mad at you. He is angry at the devil for having taken you down the wrong path, and he wants you back. He wants you in his fold, so to speak, as a little lamb. He wants to hold you, pick you up as a little lamb. And this word mercy here in Micah 7 .18 is the word chesed.

20:21 in Hebrew. And it means desire, ardor, zeal toward anyone, love, kindness, benevolence. The best word in English is loving kindness. And it's shown in mutual benefits, mercy, pity, grace, favor. All of these things are wrapped up in chesed. And it's also, it's a covenantal word that he is bound by his covenant to pour out. chesed to you. So he's just there. Chesed is one of the words that God uses to describe himself. When Moses is up in Mount Sinai with God, and Moses has said, show me your glory. And God reveals himself to Moses. And the first thing that he says about himself is that he is merciful with the kind of mercy that a mother has. And then he goes on to talk twice. He mentions the word chesed, that this mercy, this loving kindness, that's what he's all about. He's about being kind and loving in everything. And all we have to do is just obey him. It's when we disobey him that we... Get the corrections, right? He's a parent. You've got to understand he is a parent.

21:43 He is your father. And he is going to help you get where you can keep the rules. Because the rules are there to help you have a good life. Yes. You break the rules and you're not going to have a good life. It's a protection for you. He's not trying to hurt you. He's not trying to harm you. He's not trying to make life difficult for you. He's trying to give you a safe place to live. Yes. And he's the father of us all, right? Yeah. So the next part is hallowed be your name. Now, we don't use that word just a whole lot in the 21st century, hallowed. Yeah.

22:24 We kind of don't understand it. So I've pulled some scriptures from more recent translations, simpler translations. So God's Word translation says, Our Father in heaven, let your name be kept holy. Contemporary English version says, Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name. Good News translation says, Our Father in heaven, may your holy name be honored. Yes. Christian Standard Bible says, Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. The NET Bible says, Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored.

23:06 So this word hallowed, it's related to what we might call sanctified or set apart. It's set apart from everything else. It's holy. It's holy. Holy is related to the word hallowed. And it really means just set apart. Like when you say God is holy, you're saying God is in a field all by himself. He's in a league all by himself. He's in a league all by himself. There isn't anybody that is like him in that way. He is God all by himself. No other gods compare to him.

23:49 And so his name, his name is holy also. His name is Yehovah. In English, we say Jehovah. That's his name. And it means he who was, he who is, and he who is to come. And so this idea of his eternalness, his unchangingness. is a holy thing. It's a set apart thing. There's nobody else. Nobody else always was. And nobody else always will be what he always was. That's who he is.

24:30 And that's what his name means. And his name is holy. And I won't take time to talk about why some people refuse to use his name. And in the scripture, we've got it spelled out. L -O -R -D in all caps. And it's substituting for his actual name. And I just won't take time to get into that. I think we've got that in some other episode. Yeah, we do. But his name is holy. Yeah. And so when Jesus teaches his disciples to say this, he is enjoining us, he is encouraging us to pray for his name to be... actually to be known, to be known for what it is, to be known that he's holy. So that's hallowed be your name.

25:19 And now let's talk about your kingdom come, because that's also an important foundational principle. So why is there a kingdom? Because there's a king. Exactly. There's a kingdom because there's a king. So Psalm 1016. What does that say? Yehovah is king forever and ever. The nations are perished out of his land. So already back in the Psalms, it was probably David that wrote this, but I didn't make a note of it. He's king. He is the king. The reason why we have kings on the earth is because we have a king in heaven. You know, he set the example for us that there should be kings. That's good. And Psalm 24, 7 through 10.

26:12 What does that say? I love this one. Yeah, it's one of my favorites. Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. Who is the King of glory? Yehovah, strong and mighty. Yehovah, mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates. Hey, lift them up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. Who is this king of glory? Yehovah of hosts. He is the king of glory. Silah. Oh, pause and think about that. He's the king of glory. Yes. And when Jesus came, he came as Yehovah in the flesh. We'll do another podcast on that. Psalm 47 too. What does that say? This is the Young's literal translation.

27:06 For Jehovah Most High is fearful, a great king over all the earth. He's the great king. Great king. And then Psalm 95, 3. For Jehovah is a great God and a great king above all gods. So we have a real picture of the kingdom of God. Remember, we're talking about your kingdom come. So we have a picture of that in Revelation chapter 5. 21. And it talks about John sees a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no more sea. Can you imagine an earth with no sea?

27:50 No Pacific Ocean, no Atlantic Ocean. No Mediterranean. No Mediterranean. They're all gone. It's all land. And I suppose you'll need that. For all the people who are coming back to dwell in the land. I don't know. But then it says, then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men. So we're praying your kingdom come. This is what it looks like. Yes. Okay. He will dwell with them. Don't you just want God to come and dwell with us? I mean, that's what Emmanuel means. The God with us. Jesus came and dwelt on the earth for a very short time.

28:40 But he's coming back to dwell for a thousand years. And then, I'm not sure exactly what's going to happen, but that new heaven and new earth, I think, is even beyond to the millennium. I don't know the timeline. That's not our field. We'll let God be God, and whenever it happens, it's going to happen. We've seen hundreds of timelines through the last so many years. Oh, yes, and some of them are right. It's going to be this, it's going to be that, and some of them are partial. But we'll get the full picture when it's time to get the full picture. Exactly, exactly. That's why it doesn't say everything in the Word, because... Everybody will party to the last hour and then repent. Yeah. It says, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people. God himself will be with them and be their God. Now, that's one of the promises of both the Old and the New Covenant, that I'll be your God and you'll be my people.

29:43 That's foundational. Absolutely foundational. He is our God. We are his people. We are the sheep of his pasture. And that's foundational, right? God will wipe away all the tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death, sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain. I'm looking forward to that. For the former things have passed away. Then he who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said to me, write for these words are true and faithful. And he said to me, it is done. I love how even in Hebrew, there's only two tenses. We don't have past and present and future. It's completed or it's continuing. And so when God says it, it's done. It's finished. It's perfect. It's done. And he said to me, it is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

30:50 I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. That's you. That's me. All of us. Verse 9. Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. Thy kingdom come. Okay, so here comes Jerusalem, the heavenly Jerusalem. descending out of heaven, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone clears crystal. Also, she had a great and high wall with 12 gates and 12 angels at the gates and the names written on them, which are the names of the 12 tribes of the children of Israel, three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, three gates on the west. Now the wall of the city had 12 foundations, and on them were the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb. And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city and its gates and its wall, and it talks about how it's laid out four square. It's as high as it is wide, and he measured the wall and the construction and talks about all of these different kinds

32:22 of layers, okay? I don't want to get into all of that, but the point is, Thy kingdom come. Here it is. It's written in Revelation 21. You can read it for yourself and study it and let it get into you. Because when we pray this prayer, we're praying for this. We're praying for this to come. And we're asking God to do it. And what we're doing is getting into agreement with what he has promised. Get into agreement with his promises, and that's when the promises will come to pass. Amen? Amen. So your kingdom come, your will be done. Okay, so let's look at Psalm 40, verse 8. I delight to do your will, O my God, and your law is within my heart. I love that.

33:11 Your law is within my heart. He has his law in our heart. We will walk in his ways. Yes, yes. And when Jesus was in a place and he's in a crowd in the house, And somebody comes to say, and your mother and brothers are here to see you. And then he says in Mark 3 .35, whoever does the will of God is my brother and my sister and my mother. So if you want to be Jesus' brother or sister, do the will of God, right? Yeah. So what does John 6 .40 say? And this is the will of him who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have everlasting life. and I will raise him up on the last day.

33:55 Amen. Amen. This is the will of him that sent me. So let's look at a few other places where it talks about his will. Let's look at Romans 12 too. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Yes. What is that perfect will of God is that we be conformed to his kingdom and not to the world. Yes, amen. We're supposed to be conformed to something. We're supposed to be conformed to the image of Christ. Yes, amen. Hallelujah. It says that in Romans 8. Then 1 Thessalonians 4, 3 through 5. Would you read that, please? For this is the will of God, your sanctification. Wait, your sanctification. It's the making. of you to be holy. It's the setting of you apart to God. That's what holiness is.

34:59 It's not about how long your sleeves are. It's not about how long your hair is. Or if you have any makeup. Or if you have makeup or not. Holiness is being set apart to God. It's being dedicated to God. That's what holiness is. I'm sorry for interrupting. Go ahead and read that again. that you should abstain from sexual immorality, that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God. Yep. So the will of God is that we should be sanctified, that we should be holy to him, that we should leave behind all of those worldly passions that are temptations. If you try to be holy and all things are dragging you down, you're not going to get there. It's true. You'll get to areas and it may look like on the outside, you know, wow, what a holy guy he is, you know, but they don't know what's going on in your mind.

36:04 Exactly. The more you are sanctified, the more that you're going to be able to connect with the Holy Spirit. Exactly. And the more you connect with the Holy Spirit, the more sanctified you'll get. And more you'll know about on earth as it is in heaven. Exactly. Exactly. So let's take the next phrase, on earth as it is in heaven. Daniel 4 .35, what does that say? All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing. He does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain his hand or say to him, what have you done? So he's coming with this kingdom on earth.

36:48 And I believe, this is my heart, that we are being trained and being formed and being conformed to him. so that we can do on earth as it is in heaven and be on earth as it is in heaven. Yeah, this earth is our boot camp. Yes, yes. Boot camp is where you learn how to shoot and you learn warfare. Yes, that's true. That's true. And you learn how to survive. Very true. And the thing that amazes me is in these last days, God has given so many people. that have died the assignment to go back and tell the truth about heaven and hell. So many now. We were just in a conference with four people that we're looking forward to having on our podcast soon. And one of them is Randy Kay. And his experience when he died, he was an agnostic. And he didn't know his Bible.

37:55 But he saw all of these things, and when he came back and became a believer, he was amazed to find that these things that he saw were in the Bible. All in the Bible, yeah. Yeah. But ever since then, he has been interviewing people who have had these near -death experiences. Just so many people, so, so, so, so, so many, hundreds and hundreds of people he's interviewed. And because of these people, Because God has sent them back to tell the truth about the afterlife, that there is a heaven and that there is a hell, that they are real places. The Lord is trying to show us. And give us a glimpse, like we've had Dean Braxton on our podcast many, many times.

38:41 And he helps us see how it is in heaven so that we can start doing on the earth as it is in heaven. So we're participating in the answer to this prayer. We're participating in this. on earth as it is in heaven. So I get really excited about it. So he's coming with his kingdom to make earth like heaven. And we're laying the groundwork as we participate with his Holy Spirit. You can't do it in the flesh. You won't succeed in what he's trying to get us to do. But if you'll do it by the spirit, if you'll walk in the spirit and not in the flesh, you will help to answer this prayer. Isn't that exciting? It's foundational.

39:26 Foundation. Amen. Amen. So give us this day our daily bread. So you remember how the Lord supplied the needs of the children of Israel when they came out of Egypt and all they had was the bread that they made that night before they went. And it didn't even have a chance to leaven. It didn't even have a chance to rise. Yeah, and they made manakani, banana bread. Not exactly, but it's a great joke. But he's a faithful father. He was wanting to teach them about his greatness, about his faithfulness, about his fatherhood.

40:08 And they were so wounded from their time in slavery in Egypt that they just couldn't get it. They saw miracle after miracle after miracle after miracle. And if we'll be honest, we're probably the same way. They're an example to us of how life really is, that it's only the very few who really get it. Most of the folks that are looking around are listening to the voices around them that are complaining and moaning. But our Father was faithful to give them bread every single day. Every day. Well, on Friday, he gave them twice as much so that they wouldn't have to work on Saturday to get it. On Shabbat, rather. So when we talk about give us this day our daily bread, there is a physical version of it and there's a spiritual version of it. And we're asking that we're not going to starve. Okay.

41:12 But he's faithful. He always provides when we put our trust in him. He always, always, always provides. So then we have the spiritual side, and Jesus said, I am the bread of life. And he was born in Bethlehem, which means the house of bread. So all these little details are there for us, all these little things. So he's showing himself to be the bread. And then he goes on, when a whole bunch of people are following him, he says, unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no part of me. What? What? Eat your flesh? What? Drink your blood? What? And he spoke in mysteries, obviously. He spoke in parables, but that was something he spoke kind of blatantly that folks just did not understand.

42:09 He lost a bunch of his disciples. He lost a bunch at that point. But then his 12 disciples understood it on the night of the Passover, just before he was betrayed, just before he laid down his life. He gave them this bread, and he said, this is my body. Broken for you. Broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Exactly. Which we do today. So it's a good thing to have communion every day. And we covered communion very well in our last episode. And so you can go back and listen to that. His body, His bread, this bread is a touch point. It's a place that we can...

42:55 And I think I probably said it in that episode that, you know, all of the trouble started because Adam and Eve put something in their mouths that didn't belong there. So he redeems it by giving us something to put in our mouths to help us to connect with him in a physical way that is also spiritual. So he did that for our bodies. He did that so we could be healed. Then in Luke 4, verse 4, would you read that? But Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. So we see that the word of God is something that we live by. So when we're asking him to give us our daily bread, we're asking for the physical provision, and we're asking for... A spiritual provision. Yes, his bread of life. That he's the bread of life. So we're asking for him as the bread of life, but he's also the word of God. Yes. And we live by the word of God, every word of God. Every time I open my Bible, I get something new. And I've been setting in a long time. But there's so much new and there's so, so, so much. So when you go digging in the scriptures every day. It's establishing something. It's building something in you that you need every

44:25 single day. So give us this day our daily bread has to do with physical and spiritual. So make sure that you are digging for something and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to life in you something from the Word of God every day. Because, you know, people... sometimes get into the idea that, okay, I'm going to read my three chapters or I'm going to read my five chapters or however much it is. And they just go zooming through it and never get a thing. But even if you just. Grab one verse and meditate on it and chew on it and let it digest into your spiritual being.

45:11 It will help you to grow because that's why we eat, right? We eat so that we have nutrition, so that our bodies will be sustained. And if you don't eat, you get weak. Yeah, that's for sure. We sure know about that. So God is trying to strengthen you through his word. And I just want to mention that episode 308 with Dean Braxton, Jesus is the Bread of Life, will also be a blessing to you. So let's talk about forgive us our debts or our trespasses as we forgive our debtors or those who trespass against us. I learned forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. That's how my daddy taught me. And when I got to kindergarten, we were saying the Lord's Prayer every day. It was with trespasses. And I didn't even understand that. I had to talk to my parents about it because it was totally new to me. And don't tell anybody, but Mrs. Withey, my kindergarten teacher, was leading us in prayer, teaching us this prayer after the Supreme Court had already said no prayer in school. Yeah, good for her. Yeah, good for her. I'm glad she did it. I don't know that my classmates would have gotten it otherwise. So it doesn't matter which way you pray it. The principle is the same. Luke 11 .4 is the Luke version of the Lord's Prayer. What does that say? And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Forgiveness is an enormous issue that lots of people struggle

46:44 with. Shirley Smith. gave a testimony of how unforgiveness gave her cancer. And she overcame it, thankfully, by using the Holy Communion, actually. So we'll put a link to that in the show notes. But unforgiveness is an enormous thing. And you just have to go to the two verses after the Lord's Prayer is over to understand how significant and how foundational forgiveness is. Would you read that for us? Matthew 6, 14 and 15. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. It's true. It's absolutely true. So we did a whole podcast on that subject, and we called it One of Hell's Best Kept Secrets, and that's unforgiveness.

47:40 So that was episode 72. That's a long time ago. But we felt it was such a significant, important, foundational subject that people need to know. If you want to be forgiven, you better forgive. I do. And I think that's where the word trespasses came in. of the translations that if you forgive men their trespasses, your Father will forgive you. None of the other clauses of this prayer were brought up after the prayer was over. After the amen was said, this is the only one about forgiving. So it's obviously very, very foundational.

48:22 It has a real important significance. So lead us not into temptation. Now, this word temptation from the Blue Letter Bible, I went to look at that, and the word temptation is an experiment, an attempt, a trial, approving. It's a trial of a man's fidelity, integrity, virtue, constancy. It's an enticement to sin, temptation, whether arising from the desires or from the outward circumstances. It's an internal temptation to sin. It can be adversity, affliction, trouble. It can be sent by God and serving to test or prove one's character, faith, and holiness. So when you're going through something, God is sending you an opportunity to get an upgrade, depending on how you handle it. And it's kind of like a test in school. If you pass the test, you go on to the next grade. You go on to the next thing.

49:26 If you don't pass the test, you get to go back and do it again. You know, it's like if you're a believer, you believe in Jesus, you get to heaven. It's like the rewards are greater. Yeah. And we've seen that from many people that have had heaven experiences, you know, when the rewards are given out. It's true. You know, you get a reward, but we seek for heavenly treasures, not earthly. Amen. Amen. One of my favorite verses, and I learned it as a child, and it's helped me through many things over the years, is 1 Corinthians 10 .13. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man, but God is faithful.

50:10 God is faithful. God is faithful. Who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able? He knows your abilities. He knows your heart. But with the temptation will also make the way of escape that you may be able to bear it. So any kind of temptation that comes your way, God will help you. He's faithful. And Matthew 26, 41, what does that say? Watch and pray lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. It's true. Jeremiah 15, 21. I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you from the grip of the terrible.

50:55 And that goes really along with the next part, deliver us from evil or deliver us from the evil one. You see it in both ways in various translations. Or deliver us from the evil, the evil. Psalm 121, 7 and 8. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil. He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even forevermore. It's because he's faithful. Yes. He is going to preserve you from all evil. Yes. And you overcome evil with good. Yeah. And just, you know, sink down into the presence of God and he'll carry you through. Yeah. Jeremiah 15, 21. I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you from the grip of the terrible. Amen. John 17, 15. I do not pray that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil one. Amen. Galatians 1, 4. Who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. So we're asking him to deliver us from evil. And here's all these scriptures that say he delivers us from evil.

52:12 You know, sometimes evil things happen and he's faithful to help us. He's faithful to deliver us. Even though you go through something, the point is you go all the way through. And it's over. And you eventually get the rewards on the other side. For yours is the kingdom. Exodus 15, 18. The Lord shall reign forever and ever. Yes, he's the king. We talked about that already. And he shall reign forever and ever. Amen. I won't try to hit the high notes part. 1 Chronicles 29, 11. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, and the glory, the victory, and the majesty.

52:56 For all that is in heaven and in earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom. O Lord, and you are exalted as head over all. It's his kingdom. Yes, amen. He is the king. Ain't no other king. All these earthly kings and presidents and prime ministers. We got no king but Jesus. Amen, amen, amen. Psalm 1016. The Lord is king forever and ever. The nations have perished out of his hand. Amen. One more. Psalm 47, 2 and 7. For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is a great king over all the earth. For God is the king of all the earth.

53:40 Sing praises with understanding. Yours is the kingdom. Yes, Lord. Yours is the kingdom. You are awesome, Lord. You are the great king over all the earth. You are the king of the earth, and we sing praises with understanding to you. Amen. Yes, amen. power. Yours is the kingdom and the power. So this word power is one that you may have heard before. It's Greek. Some people pronounce it dunamis and others pronounce it dynamis. Dynamite. It's the same root word where we get dynamite and dynamo. So dynamite is one big explosion of power. And you know what a dynamo does in the automotive world? It measures horsepower.

54:27 also produce electricity. And it's a continuous thing. It's not just one big boom. It's the power behind the power. So when we get the dunamis power of God in us, it's dynamite. Amen. We can do things. Amen. And so the Strong's definition of this word is miraculous power or ability, abundance, might. And miracles or workers, a worker of miracles, power, strength, violence, mighty, a mighty wonderful work. A lot of these places, I was surprised at all the places where this word shows up that is not translated power.

55:10 It might be a work. The works that Jesus did were called dynamis. So, you know, it's these power miracles that he does, and he still does, and he always has done, and he always will do, because that's who he is. The outline of biblical usage from the Blue Letter Bible. It means strength, power, ability, inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature or which a person or thing exerts and put forth, power for performing miracles, moral power and excellence of soul, the power and influence which belongs to riches and wealth, power and resources arriving from numbers. In other words, a multitude. Power consisting in or resting upon armies, forces, or hosts. Here it is in the Old Testament. It would be a different word in Hebrew, but it's translated using this in the Greek translation from the Hebrew, which is the Septuagint. Psalm 21, 13. Be exalted, O Lord, in your own strength.

56:13 We will sing and praise your power. Yes, God has spoken once. Twice have I heard this. The power belongs to God. That's Psalm 62, 11. What's Psalm 63, 2? So I have looked for you in the sanctuary to see your power and your glory. Your power and your glory. Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Psalm 145, 11. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and talk of your power. Amen. Amen. Great is the Lord and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite. Yes. Absolutely infinite. And this last part, and the glory forever. 1 Timothy 1 .7. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, the honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. Amen. Honor and glory to him. It belongs to him. Yes. Revelation 5 .13. And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea and all that are in them, I heard saying, Blessing and honor and glory and power be to him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever. And Revelation 19 .1 After these things, I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven saying, Alleluia, salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God, our Yehovah. Amen. Amen. And so the last word is amen. So what does amen mean? Amen,

57:44 I read someplace that amen is the most known word in the world because they took it straight from Hebrew and transliterated it. And it's everywhere you go. Every language. Every language. Like hallelujah. Yeah, hallelujah is another one. There's not a Spanish translation. Yeah, it's just hallelujah. But amen means it's the truth. And when you say amen, you're saying like somebody says something or somebody prays something and you agree with it, you could say so be it. But it's also saying. I'm saying amen as though I said exactly those words. I get my spirit in agreement with you. I agree with you. And so when we pray this prayer, and also, I found this out, I didn't know, that it means verily or truly, like where you see in, you're seeing it more in the King James, where it says verily, verily.

58:50 It's saying, amen, amen. So it's saying, this is the truth. This is the truth. Pay attention. This is the truth. Get it in your head. This is the truth. I'm saying something that's true. So you're also saying, like if you were saying amen to somebody's words or their prayer or whatever, you're saying, that's true. That's true. I agree with that. So you're agreeing. with what God has said. And so I just want to close this by, we're going to pray that prayer together. If you would join us, please do. And I just want to pray it with these understandings that have come in this podcast, that you are going deeper. in your prayer, in your understanding, in the meaning of this word. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
